गोरखपुर। यार्ड रिमाॅडलिंग का काम बृहस्पतिवार से शुरू करने के लिए रेलवे प्रशासन ने तैयारियां पूरी कर ली है। बुधवार को पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे के जीएम केके अटल तैयारियों के मद्देनजर स्टेशन का निरीक्षण करेंगे। इस दौरान उनके साथ रेलवे के सभी विभागाध्यक्ष और अधिकारी मौजूद रहेंगे।
सीपीआरओ आलोक सिंह ने बताया कि यात्रियों की सुविधा के लिए स्टेशन पर विशेष हेल्प लाइन यूनिट स्थापित कर दी गई है। यात्रियों को गोरखपुर तक आने में दिक्कत न हो इसके लिए डोमिनगढ़ और कैंट स्टेशन पर छोटे वाहनों की व्यवस्था की जाएगी। स्टेशनों पर नोटिस बोर्ड के माध्यम से यात्रियों को ट्रेन की सूचनाएं दी जाएगी।
प्लेटफार्म पर 30 वेंडिंग यूनिट लगाई जाएगी ताकि यात्रियों को खानपान संबंधित असुविधा न होने पाए। नकहा एवं बस्ती से गोरखपुर कैंट के बीच स्थित सभी स्टेशनों पर 24 घंटे बुकिंग क्लर्क की ड्यूटी, नकहा, गोरखपुर कैंट, सहजनवां, बस्ती एवं मनकापुर स्टेशनों पर उपलब्ध बुकिंग क्लर्क द्वारा रिफंड की व्यवस्था और अस्थाई रूप से कुलियों को प्रबंध होगा।

25 सितंबर को थावे-गोरखपुर पैसेंजर ट्रेन को कप्तानगंज स्टेशनर पर ही टर्मिनेट कर दिया जाएगा। मंडुवाहीह गोरखपुर पैसेेंजर ट्रेन में प्रथम श्रेणी एवं शयनयान कोच नहीं लगाया जाएगा। 26 सितंबर को थावे-गोरखपुर पैसेंजर ट्रेन कप्तानगंज स्टेशन, नौतनवां गोरखपुर विशेष सवारी गाड़ी नकहा जंगल स्टेशन, मुजफ्फरपुर गोरखपुर सवारी गाड़ी गोरखपुर कैंट पर टर्मिनेट की जाएगी।

जसीडीह रेलवे स्टेशन का विस्तारीकरण किया जाएगा। इसके लिए 1.25 करोड़ रुपये का आवंटन दिया गया है। विभागीय अधिकारियों ने बताया कि स्टेशन को प्लानिंग एंड डेवलपमेंट विभाग की ओर से निर्माण कार्य के लिए निविदा निकाला गया है। जानकारी के अनुसार स्टेशन क्षेत्र के निर्माण के लिए यहां स्थित तालाब को 30 मीटर भरा जाएगा। आसपास के क्षेत्रों में लगभग चार हजार स्क्वायर फीट की जमीन पर पड़ाव, छह बुकिंग काउंटर, प्रतीक्षालय समेत अन्य कार्य कराए जाने की योजना है। जानकारी हो कि पुराने क्षेत्र में लंबे जाम रहने के कारण लोगों को काफी परेशानी होती थी।
अब इस समस्या का निदान हो सकेगा और पर्याप्त जगह मिलने के कारण व्यवसायिक गतिविधियों को बढ़ावा मिलेगा। निर्माण कार्य पूरा हो जाने के बाद गाड़ियां इधर-उधर बेतरतीब तरीके से नहीं लगा करेंगी। वहीं जसीडीह सिनेमा हॉल होते हुए गाड़ियों का आवागमन आरंभ होगा। हालांकि निर्माण कार्य को लेकर कई बार जमीन खाली कराने का नोटिस दिया गया है, लेकिन आज तक जमीन खाली नहीं कराया जा सका।

गाजियाबाद-मेरठ सिटी-सहारनपुर सेक्शन पर दो पुलों के मरम्मत कार्य के लिए 25 सितंबर को रात पौने ग्यारह बजे से पांच घंटे तक यातायात बंद रहेगा।
जिसके चलते उस दिन नई दिल्ली-देहरादून एसी एक्सप्रेस (12205) तिलक ब्रिज-दिल्ली शहादरा-शामली-टपरी होकर तथा अमृतसर-बिलासपुर छत्तीसगढ़ एक्सप्रेस (18238) टपरी-शामली-दिल्ली शाहदरा-तिलक ब्रिज के रास्ते चलेगी। जबकि देहरादून- नई दिल्ली एसी एक्सप्रेस (12206) को मुजफ्फरनगर में 30 मिनट रोककर चलाया जाएगा।

Issues like acquisition of lands and cut in financial allocation have affected development and infrastructure related works of the Railways, said General Manager of Southern Railway Rakesh Misra on Tuesday.He was here to inspect the Signal and Telecommunications Workshop at Podanur.Mr. Misra told The Hindu that the allocation of funds had come down from Rs. 1,100 last year to Rs. 560 crore in the current fiscal and this had a telling effect on the pace of various works being undertaken by the Railways. The increase in diesel and electricity charges also affected the financial stability of the Railways, he added.Kerala accounted for the maximum number of issues concerning land acquisition while it was relatively less in Tamil Nadu. Issues always cropped up when the lands identified for acquisition were wet/agricultural lands, he added.Mr.Misra was accompanied by the Divisional Railway Manager, Salem, Sujatha Jeyaraj. He said land acquisition issues as far as the Podanur - Pollachi gauge conversion stretch had been overcome and now the wait was for funds. “I have personally appealed to the Railway Board to sanction funds to complete the Podanur – Pollachi gauge conversion at the earliest in order to restore the rail connectivity of Western Tamil Nadu with the Southern districts,” Mr. Misra said.

Southern Railway was confident of completing the Pollachi – Palakkad gauge conversion by March 2014. Mr. Misra added that the Palani – Pollachi gauge conversion was in its final stages. The route was likely to be opened by 2014, after Commissioner of Rail Safety’s (CRS) inspection. Referring to safety, Mr. Misra said the objective of the Southern Railway was to eliminate 800 unmanned level crossings in a phased manner. Either these crossings would be manned or bridges constructed. In some cases, Southern Railway would bring in Limited Use Subway for light motor vehicles and two-wheelers with a restriction on the height of the vehicle.

At present, the railway was on the job of constructing bridges at over 100 level crossings. The rest would be taken up as and when the funds were available.

On the growth pattern, Mr.Rakesh Misra said there had been 2.3 per cent slide in the passenger traffic in the five months of this year. Considerable fall was from short distance unreserved ticket sale. With regard to freight traffic, Mr.Misra said there had been a 10 per cent to 12 per cent growth. However, the number of kilometres of ferrying the cargo had come down due to various factors and the fall in distance factor resulted in the revenue growth touching only eight to nine per cent.

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court yesterday granted bail to three people who were sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2002 Godhra train burning case which had triggered communal riots in the state. A two-judge bench of Justice Aqeel Qureshi and Justice R P Dholaria granted bail to Irfan Pada, Suleiman Pir and Qasim Abdul Sattar alias ‘Qasim Biryani’, who were given life imprisonment, while also rejecting bail applications of eleven others awarded life imprisonment. They also submitted that they had been in jail for the last 11 years and a hearing on appeals against their conviction may take a long time, their advocate I H Syed said. They contended that Abdul Majid, one of those convicted, was granted bail by the Supreme Court on the ground that hearing his appeal may take time. However, bail applications of the 11 who were awarded life terms, were rejected by the court on the ground that they had absconded after the train burning incident. In February 2011, a special court had sentenced 11 people to death and 20 to life imprisonment for burning the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express in February 2002 near Godhra railway station, in which 59 people, mostly kar sevaks were killed. In the violence that followed, over 1,000 people, mostly from the minority community, were killed. The 20 accused, who were sentenced to life, had filed an appeal in the High Court against the special court’s verdict. The state government had also filed an appeal in the High Court seeking enhancement of the sentence of the 20 convicts.

The Indian Railways today said it had cancelled the trip of the Maitree Express train from Kolkata on October 15 and from Dhaka on October 16 on the request of the Bangladesh Railway.   An official press release said this had been done to avoid operational complications arising out of the non-running of trains in Bangladesh on Eid-ul-Zuha.   "Normal services of the train will resume thereafter," the release added.   The train normally runs from Kolkata every Tuesday and Saturday and in the return direction on Wednesdays and Sundays.

BHUBANESWAR: The state government will showcase its Buddhist tourism potential to foreign tourists who are slated to arrive in Odisha by the Mahaparinirvan Express, better knows as the Buddisht train, on December 25.

The special inter-state train, which promotes Buddhist tourism and covers famous Buddhist destinations in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, was extended to Odisha earlier this year. The train, jointly promoted by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Odisha tourism department, had last come to the state on January 22.

"We are ready to welcome the tourists to Odisha for the second time. The train, which has a total running time of eight nights and nine days, has a two-day halt in the stay. Last time, the train was here for only one day," state tourism director Manoranjan Pattnaik said.

Last time, the train carried 89 tourists, who included 16 foreigners, from Thailand, Indonesia and France. This time, the tourism department expects a footfall of tourists, including foreigners.

According to itinerary, the Mahaparinirvan Express will chug out of Safdarjung railway station in New Delhi on December 23. On the second day, the train will touch famous Bodhgaya temples in Bihar before reaching Odisha on the third day. The train will halt at Haridaspur railway station from where tourists would be taken on sightseeing to Lalitgiri, Udayagiri and Ratnagiri in Jajpur district. On the same day, tourists would be brought to the state museum in Bhubaneswar where they can view the tooth relics of Gautama Buddha, preserved in a golden casket. On December 26, the tourists would visit the Sun temple in Konark, sea beach in Puri and Buddhist peace pagoda at Dhauli hill in Bhubaneswar.

Last year, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had urged the Railways to extend the train to Odisha to tap the state's Buddhist tourism potential. Despite having several enchanting Buddhist sites, Odisha has so far failed to attract tourists from abroad. Even though thousands of tourists from East Asia, Southeast Asia and Nepal visit Bodh Gaya in Bihar every year, the footfall in Odisha is abysmally poor. Officially, the inflow of foreign tourists to Odisha stood at 64,719 in 2012. While only 482 tourists from Thailand visited the state last year, about 70 came from Hong Kong, 470 from Singapore, 233 from Indonesia, 3,930 from Japan and 1,601 from Korea. Sources said more than 324 Buddhist sites exist in Odisha, out of which 108 have remains of Buddhist establishments.
