An intensive ticket checking drive was conducted at Ongole Railway Station on Monday under the supervision of Y. Pulla Rao, Divisional Commercial Manager, Vijayawada Division. As many as 260 cases of passengers travelling without ticket and carrying unbooked luggage were detected and Rs.1,13,010 was realised.

To clear extra rush of passengers, the South Central Railway will run a pair of special express trains between Hyderabad and Kakinada Town via Guntur Division on September 27 and September 29.

Train No. 07101 will leave Hyderabad at 6.40 a.m. on Friday and reach Guntur at 4.35 a.m. It will reach Kakinada at 9.45 a.m. on Saturday.

In the return direction on Sunday, train No. 07102 would leave Kakinada at 6 p.m. and reach Guntur at 11.58 p.m. and Hyderabad at 6.40 a.m. the next day.

The train stops at Samalkot, Anaparti, and Nidadavolu stations.

East Coast Railway has conducted a 36 hours long massive ticket checking drive and awareness programme at Bhubaneswar Railway Station to discourage ticketless travelers and unauthorised visitors at the station premises.

          During the special massive ticket checking drive at Bhubaneswar Station o­n Monday and Tuesday, East Coast Railway detected about 600 passengers who have travelled without tickets or with improper tickets and also collected a fine of Rupees 01 Lakh 60 Thousand approximately.Apart from this, 42 persons were fined for spitting, littering & violating cleanliness rules.

Similarly, the passengers have been counseled and educated to buy bonafide tickets from the ticket counters to make their journey hassle free. Daily commuters have also been advised to buy Monthly Season Tickets (MST) to avoid standing in the queue at Booking Counters. The MST is also much cheaper (about o­ne third) than the regular journey fare of a month.

Passengers were also encouraged to buy ATVM (Automatic Ticket Vending Machine) Smart Card which is one of the most convenient ways to buy tickets now a days. Passengers have also advised to carry minimum luggage during their train journey, so that, their journey will be more comfortable. The passengers were convinced that their cooperation was essential in these areas.

About 67 ticket checking staff including commercial supervisors, Chief Ticket Inspectors (CTI), Train Ticket Examiners (TTE) form Khurda Road Division with the help of Railway Protection Force (RPF) were involved in the drive and awareness programme headed by Shri H. L. Luang, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Khurda Road Division.

MANGALORE: Southern Railway has made bus arrangement between Thissur and Kuttipuram for reserved passengers during non-interlocked working at Shoranur.Passengers arriving at Thrissur by 16606 Nagercoil - Mangalore Ernad express to Kuttipuram and beyond will be transported by bus which leaves Thrissur at 9.55am and reach Kuttipuram at 11.20am. They can board passenger special train to Mangalore Central which leaves Kuttipuram at 2pm.Likewise, reserved passengers arriving at Kuttipuram by 16605 Mangalore - Nagercoil Ernad express to Thrissur and beyond will be transported by bus which leaves Kuttipuram at 1.15pm and reach Thrissur at 2.45pm. Reserved passengers arriving at Ottapalam by train 13351 Dhanbad - Alappuzha express to Shoranur and beyond will be transported by bus which leaves Ottapalam at 2.30pm. This bus will reach Shoranur at 3pm.

Reserved passengers arriving at Ottapalam by train 17230 Hyderabad Sabari express to Shoranur and beyond, will be transported by bus which leaves Ottapalam at 10.50am. This bus will reach Shoranur at 11.20am.

Reserved passengers arriving at Ottapalam by train 12511 Gorakhpur - Thiruvananthapuram express (Sunday/Tuesday/Saturday), train 12521 Barauni - Ernakulam express (Thursday), train 16325 Indore - Thiruvananthapuram express (Wednesday), and train 16327 Korba - Thiruvananthapuram express (Monday/Friday) to Shoranur and beyond will be transported by bus which leaves Ottapalam at 10am. This bus will reach Shoranur at 10.30am.

Buses will be provided only for reserved passengers up to Shoranur after 20 minutes from the actual arrival of train at Ottappalam. Passengers with reserved tickets will be ferried by the buses from Ottappalam to Shoranur junction and between Thrissur to Kuttipuram and Kuttipuram to Thrissur.

Passengers arriving by trains from Thiruvananthapuram/Ernakulam side bound to Shoranur and via Shoranur should get down at Wadakkancheri, as no transportation has been arranged for passengers arriving by these trains between Ottappalam and Shoranur. They are requested to make use of the road facility adjacent to the Wadakkancheri railway station or by the train to be operated after non-interlocked working hours.

There will not be any bus facility for passengers arriving by any train other than those notified above. Passengers should take note of notifications issued from time to time by the information centres at the railway stations concerned. Special refund counters will be functioning at Kuttipuram, Ottappalam and Shoranur junction to enable passengers get refunds applicable to each case during non-interlocking working hours.

Passengers boarding trains 13352 Alappuzha - Dhanbad express, 17229 Thiruvananthapuram - Hyderabad Sabari express, 12512 Thiruvananthapuram - Gorakhpur express, 12522 Ernakulam - Barauni express, 16326 Thiruvananthapuram - Indore express and 16328 Thiruvananthapuram - Korba express should board at Wadakkancheri/Ottappalam on their own. They can also use the return bus facility from Shoranur as per information available at Shoranur junction.

Pushing for private participation in railway infrastructure development to tide over the financial handicap, East Coast Railways (ECoR) has mobilised around ` 1200 crore for different projects in the State.

National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) has invested ` 800 crore for doubling railway line from Jagdalpur to Kirandul in Chhattishgarh.

The additional line over 150 km will connect Bailadila iron ore mines at Kirandul to the proposed 3 mtpa steel plant at Jagdalpur, thus augmenting the evacuation capacity of minerals to meet the requirements of NMDC. The investment would be recovered by the PSU through freight rebate.

“With Odisha witnessing rapid industrialisation, expansion of railway network and infrastructure has assumed utmost importance. The industrialisation spree has also increased the prospects of private participation in railway development. In the last one and a half years, ECoR has generated ` 1,200 crore worth of investment from the stakeholders,” said Chief Operations Manager GD Brahma.

The Railways has introduced participative models where stakeholders invest in projects like new line, additional lines with revenue sharing arrangement by way of freight rebate.

 It has also facilitated deposit work where stakeholders make necessary investment for augmenting terminal and sectional capacity for higher loading and evacuation.

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited has invested ` 200 crore on autosignalling installation from Paradip to Talcher.

MCL will be able to recover its investment within the very short period as the upgradation will enable higher evacuation of  the freight leading to enhanced profit.

From around 23-24 rakes a day, autosignalling will enable carriage of about 45 rakes.

Likewise, Andhra Pradesh PSU APGENCO has invested ` 80 crore in autosignalling from Talcher to Gundapalli and beyond.

 “The participatory approach is the way forward as we cannot keep up with the infrastructure development necessities with limited funds. For every industry, we can have customised solutions,” Brahma said at the Transport Infra Conference here.

ECoR is pushing establishment of private freight terminals (PFT) in a big way. Private investors can develop terminals to handle multi-party cargo and provide value added services like warehousing, road transport. Railway sidings can be developed and shared by the owners.

The first PFT has been set up at Lapanga station by Aryan Ispat and Energy Limited and three more are in the offing.

A major accident was averted in the Guntur-Tenali section on Tuesday after a farmer noticed a rail breakage at the Vejendla railway station.

After the breakage was informed to station superintendent, a team of railway officials from Guntur rushed to the village and rectified the problem.

A sum of Rs. 2,000 was presented to the farmer.

Railway officials said that Gavini Ravindrababu noticed the breakage in the track close to his fields.|

Movement of trains was regulated in the section. NK Prasad, Divisional Railway Manager, Guntur, complimented the farmer and sought public cooperation to ensure smooth running of services.
