The blueprint for the proposed subways as part of the ambitious Sabari Rail project along the Angamaly-Kalady stretch has been finalised.

A final decision in this regard was taken at a recent meeting convened by District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth and the Railway authorities concerned with the project.

According to Railway officials, the subways have been planned at the Vaappalissery-Angamaly Road, Pirarur Road and Vaappalissery Canal Road. The roads, located on the Angamaly-Kalady stretch will be within the first reach of the Sabari rail project in the state.

Procedures for the construction of the underpasses will commence soon as they are necessary to facilitate road traffic on the route once the Sabari rail line is commissioned, officials pointed out. “Several stretches of the road on the route have been taken over for the construction of the railway line. It is in the Railways agenda to construct either subways or rail overbridges to compensate for the loss of area which is presently being used by the public for commuting. Since the construction of RoBs will require excessive funding, the Railways had opted for construction of subways,” officials said.

The district administration has already acquired the land required for the construction of the subways.

As per plan, the underpass at Vaappalissery will be built at a height of 5 metres, with a width of 4 metres, whereas at Piraroor, the underpass will be 5 metres wide and 3.9 metres high.

Along the Vaappalissery Container Road, the underpass will be built at a height of 4 metres and with a width of 3 metres. Earlier, the authorities had formulated a similar design for the construction of the underpass along the stretches.

However, based on the demands of the people’s representatives, it was decided to revise the original plan as the proposed height for the underpasses was comparatively low at 3.7 metres. It was argued that this, if implemented, would create traffic bottlenecks along the stretch.

Meanwhile, the district administration has already acquired 2.8578 hectares of land for the Sabari rail project at Angamaly village, 4.6307 hectares at Nedumbassery, 1.4027 hectares at Mattoor and 0.0236 hectare at Vadakkumbagom village.

Though land has been acquired for the project in several areas, the Railways plan to first complete the track-laying works along the Angamaly-Kalady route.

According to Railway officials, there are not sufficient funds to carry out further work and it is mandatory that the state government should contributes fifty per cent share of the funds for the project, which has put the entire project in the limbo.

Yet another issue plaguing the project is the people’s opposition in areas where residents will be displaced due to the land acquisition.

However, a few months ago, the state government had said that a new alignment has been approved for the Angamaly-Erumely Sabari railway line from Melappara to Erumeli, which will reduce the overall distance by 20 km and significantly reduce the number of houses and shops which will have to be demolished for the purpose.

NON-INTERLOCKED WORKING AT SHORANUR

Non-Interlocked(NI) working at Shoranur station in connection with Doubling between Shoranur and Karakkad stations is to start from25-09-2013 to 16-10-2013. As a result of this and with the completion of doubling work, Railway will be in a position to ease out operational constraints in the Shoranur – Mangalore section. The details of the benefits are given below:

During NI working, signals and the interlocking system which ensures safety will be out of use, which will slow down train movements remarkably across Shoranur. Moreover, every day 5 hours of traffic block with track machines will be given for the remodeling work. Hence, regulation/short termination/diversion/cancellation of trains will have to be done in view of overall public safety. Priority has been given not to affect long distance Mail/Express trains, by running lesser number of passenger trains. Goods traffic will also be restricted and diverted during this period.

Diversion of Trains

The following trains will be diverted via link line without touching Shoranur station duly providing additional stoppage at Wadakkanchery and Ottappalam.

1.  Train Nos.13351/13352 Dhanbad/Tata Nagar – Allapuzha - Dhanbad/Tata Nagar Express will be diverted from 25/09/2013 to 16/10/2013.

2.  Train Nos.17229/17230 Kochuveli – Hyderabad – Kochuveli Sabari Express will be diverted from 25/09/2013 to 16/10/2013.

3.  Train No.12511 Gorakhpur – Thiruvananthapuram Raptisagar Tri-weekly Express will be diverted from28/09/2013 to 15/10/2013. Train No.12512 Thiruvananthapuram – Gorakhpur tri-weekly Raptisagar Express will be diverted from25/09/2013 to 16/10/2013.

4.  Train No.16327 Korba – Thiruvananthapuram Bi-weekly Express will be diverted from 27/09/2013 to 14/10/2013. Train No.16328 Thiruvananthapuram – Korba bi-weekly Express will be diverted from26/09/2013 to 14/10/2013.

5.Train No.16325 Indore – Thiruvananthapuram Ahalyanagari weekly Express will be diverted from 25/09/2013 to 16/10/2013. Train No.16326 Thiruvananthapuram – Indore Ahalyanagari weekly Express will be diverted from28/09/2013 to 12/10/2013.

6.Train No.12521 Barouni – Eranakulam Jn Raptisagar weekly Express will be diverted from26/09/2013 to 10/10/2013. Train No.12522 Eranakulam Jn– Barouni Raptisagar weekly Express will be diverted from28/09/2013 to12/10/2013.

7.Train Nos.16343/16344 Thiruvananthapuram Central – Palakkad Town – Thiruvananthapuram Central Amritha Express will be diverted from06/10/2013 to 16/10/2013.



Partial cancellation/ short termination of Mail/ Express and Passenger trains.

1.Train Nos.16605/16606 Mangalore Central – Nagarcoil Jn– Mangalore Central Eranad Express will be cancelled between Thrissur and Kuttipuram stations from25/09/2013 to 16/10/2013. These trains will run between Nagarcoil Jn. & Thrissur and between Kuttipuram & Mangalore Central only, during this period. Train No.16606 will run as a passenger special between Kuttipuram and Mangalore Central. This special willleave kuttipuram at 14.00 hrs and will reach mangalore Central at 20.25 hrs.

2.Train Nos.16302/16301 Thiruvananthapuram Central – Shoranur Jn – Thiruvananthapuram Central Venad Express will be cancelled between Eranakulam Jn and Shoranur Jn from25/09/2013 to 16/10/2013. These trains will run between Thiruvananthapuram Central and Ernakulam Jn only during this period.

3.  Train Nos.12076/12075 Thiruvananthapuram Central – Kozhikode – Thiruvananthapuram Central Janshatabdi Express will be cancelled between Thrissur and Kozhikode stations from 25/09/2013 to 16/10/2013. These trains will run between Thiruvananthapuram Central and Thrissur only during this period.

4. Train No.16859 Chennai Egmore – Mangalore Central Express will be cancelled between Palakkad Jn and Mangalore Central from 02/10/2013 to 15/10/2013. Train No16860 Mangalore Central – Chennai Egmore Express will be cancelled between Mangalore Central and Palakkad Jn from03/10/2013 to 16/10/2013. These trains will run between Palakkad Jn and Chennai Egmore only during the above period.

5. Train No.16349/16350 Thiruvananthapuram Central – Nilambur Road - Thiruvananthapuram Central Rajya Rani Express will be cancelled between Shoranur Jn and Nilambur Road stations from 05/10/2013 to 16/10/2013. The full rake of Rajya Rani Express, linked with that of Amritha Express, will be brought upto Palakkad Jn during this period. These trains, which will not touch Shoranur Jn., have been provided with an additional stoppage at Wadakancherry station. Passengers from Nilambur Road area can board/alight at either Wadakancherry or Ottapalam stations during this period.

Connection bus service will be arranged for reserved passengers of Train No. 16605/16606 Mangalore Central –Nagarcoil Jn Ernad Express between Kuttipuram and Thrissur. Similar arrangement will also be made available for the reserved passengers of Train No.13351 Dhanbad /Tata Nagar – Alapuzha Express, 17230 Hyderabad – Kochuveli Sabari Express, Train No.12511 Gorakhpur – Thiruvananthapuram Central Raptisagar Express, 16327 Korba-Thiruvananthapuram Central Express, 12521 Barouni – Ernakulam Jn Express and Train No.16325 Indore – Thiruvananthapuram Central Express between Ottappalam/Wadakkanchery and Shoranur.

Apart from the above, trains may be regulated / detained enroute as required.All efforts should be taken to ensure punctuality of trains by close monitoring.

इलाहाबाद : रेलवे भर्ती बोर्ड इलाहाबाद की नॉन टेक्निकल पॉपुलर कैटेगरी की परीक्षा में दोनों पालियों को मिलाकर केवल 26.80 फीसद अभ्यर्थियों ने उपस्थिति दर्ज कराई। इस दौरान एसटीएफ ने सभी केंद्रों पर अपनी निगहबानी रखी।
आरआरबी ने वाणिज्य लिपिक एवं टिकट परीक्षक, लेखा लिपिक, कनिष्ठ लिपिक सह टंकण, कनिष्ठ गाड़ी लिपिक के 208 पदों के लिए आवेदन पत्र मांगे थे। इन्हीं पदों पर परीक्षा के संचालन के लिए जिले में 49 केंद्र बनाए गए थे, जिनमें दो पालियों में 96480 अभ्यर्थियों को बुलावा पत्र भेजा गया था। इनमें पहली पारी में 48240 में से 18308 अभ्यर्थियों ने उपस्थिति दर्ज कराई। जबकि दूसरी पाली में अभ्यर्थियों की संख्या घटकर 17553 रह गई। आरआरबी की परीक्षा में कई मामले सामने आने के बाद एसटीएफ भी इस बार काफी सक्रिय रही। परीक्षा केंद्रों और आसपास के इलाकों पर एसटीएफ ने कड़ी निगरानी रखी रही। केंद्र के आसपास की फोटो स्टेट की दुकानों पर विशेष रूप से आने-जाने वालों पर नजर रखी गई। बिना किसी बाधा के परीक्षा संपन्न होने के बाद सभी ने राहत की सांस ली।
बस अड्डे और स्टेशन पर रही मारामारी : आरआरबी परीक्षा में शामिल होने आए अभ्यार्थियों का दोपहर बाद अपने-अपने जनपदों की जाने का सिलसिला शुरू हुआ, जिससे रोडवेज बस अड्डे और स्टेशन पर भारी भीड़ के मारामारी रही। ट्रेनों में जगह नहीं मिलने अभ्यर्थी जबरन स्लीपर कोचों में सवार हो गए, जिससे बैठने को लेकर यात्रियों से भी उनकी कहासुनी हुई।

Hyderabad: With the approval accorded by the Union Cabinet to extend Metro Rail operations to the Shamshabad international airport with an expenditure of Rs 3,275 crore, the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project has received a boost.

State government and HMR officials are now gearing up to secure approvals for the extension of Metro Rail services to seven other routes spread over 85 km, as part of the second phase of the project. Officials propose to extend operations by 97 km in the second phase.

The HMR project, considered to be the world’s largest project under public-private partnership, with investments of over `17,000 crore, has been attracting international attention ever since it was announced in 2010.

Work of the first phase of the HMR project has been progressing at a brisk pace at various locations across the city. The first stage of the Metro Rail operations between Nagole and Mettuguda is scheduled to be launched by April 2015.

At present, the first phase of the HMR project is being taken up in three corridors spread over 72 km. Corridor-II from Jubilee Bus Station, Secunderabad to Falaknuma is being taken up over 14.78 km. The Centre’s approval to extend the route from Falaknuma to Shamshabad airport will increase the distance by 12 km to 26.78 km.

Corridor-I from Miyapur to LB Nagar stretches over 28.87 km, while Corridor-III from Nagole to Shilparamam covers 27.51 km.

N.V.S. Reddy, managing director of HMR, said that LEA Associates-South Asia, a Canadian consultancy firm, which has been selected as traffic consultant for the HMR project, has been conducting a study to assess traffic volume on the routes being proposed for the second phase and will submit a report in five-six months. He said that a decision on the second phase of the HMR project will be taken based on this report.

The routes being proposed for the second phase of the project include Miyapur-BHEL-Patancheru (15 km), Falaknuma-Shamshabad (12 km), LB Nagar -Vanasthalipuram (4 km), Nagole-LB Nagar-Falaknuma (15 km), JNTU, Kukatpally-Shilparamam-Gachibowli (14 km), JBS, Secunderabad-Alwal (8 km), Gachibowli-Tolichowki-Lakdikapul (17 km) and Mettuguda-ECIL via Malkajgiri (12 km).

Of these, the Centre has already approved the Falaknuma-Shamshabad route, which will be taken up along radial road no. 29.

Good times ahead as HMR irons out issues

Though Metro Rail officials initially had a tough time launching the first phase of the HMR project due to stiff opposition from various quarters, most issues have now been ironed out.

While it took almost two years to launch works after getting approval from the Central and state governments, the project has now started getting positive response from the citizens.

The series of initiatives taken up by both the HMR and the concessionaire L&TMRHL by involving the general public has created a “positive image” for the project and people who had initially opposed the Metro Rail have now started demanding extension of services to their localities.

Initially, there were apprehensions about losing a large number of properties, both private and government, besides a threat to heritage structures in the city. However, the HMR officials succeeded in convincing the public that there would be no damage to even a single heritage structure.

Owners too came forward to handover their properties after the HMR came out with an attractive relief and rehabilitation package by offering compensation as per market rates for the first time ever.

Barring a small stretch between Sultan Bazaar and Badi Chowdi and in Krishnanagar, there isn’t much resistance to Metro Rail works at present. Though there are some issues in the Old City from the MIM’s end, officials expect them to be resolved before commencing the works there.

Both the HMR and the L&TMRHL have been holding competitions and debates on the need and importance of the Metro Rail project for Hyderabad and the strategy has worked.

With traffic woes in the city worsening every passing day, people are keen to have Metro Rail operations in their localities. Besides this, rising fuel prices and health issues have also been prompting people to opt for a safe and comfortable travel initiative like the Metro, which has been a huge success in Delhi and other international cities.

HUBLI: Eastern Coast Railway (ECOR) has decided to run super fast AC weekly express special trains between Bhubaneshwar-Yeshwantpur-Bhubaneshwar (02845/02846) for 10 trips in each direction, for clearance of traffic during the forthcoming puja holidays.

Accordingly, train number 02845 will depart from Bhubaneshwar at 07-45 hours on Wednesdays, with effect from September 25 to November 27 (total : 10 specials) and arrives at Yeshwantpur at 12-10 hrs on Thursdays.

In the return direction, train number 02846 will depart from Yeshwantpur at 23-30 hrs on Thursdays, with effect from September 26 to November 28 and arrive at Bhubaneshwar at 03-30 hrs on Saturdays.

Accordingly, Train No. 17213 Narsapur-Nagarsol Express will depart Narsapur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays with effect from September 25.

In the return direction, Train No. 17214 Nagarsol-Narsapur Express will depart Nagarsol on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays with effect from September26

भोपाल. भोपाल रेलवे स्टेशन के छठवें प्लेटफॉर्म (ड्राइव इन प्लेटफॉर्म) के एंट्री गेट के बाहर ट्रैफिक व्यवस्था गड़बड़ होने से रविवार को जाम के हालात बने रहे। नई दिल्ली-भोपाल शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस के आने और जाने के वक्त यात्रियों को छोड़ने व लेने आए वाहनों की लंबी कतारें लग गईं। इस दौरान यहां ट्रैफिक पुलिस नदारद दिखी। प्लेटफॉर्म के पास भी वाहन चालकों ने जहां-तहां वाहन पार्क कर दिए।

शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस के इस प्लेटफॉर्म से चलने के एक हफ्ते बाद भी व्यवस्थाएं दुरुस्त नहीं हो सकी हैं। विशेषकर शनिवार व रविवार को हालात ज्यादा खराब हो रहे हैं। रविवार दोपहर 2 बजकर 5 मिनट पर जैसे ही शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर छह पर पहुंची, वाहन चालकों में अफरा-तफरी मच गई। आरपीएफ व जीआरपी के कुछ जवान ट्रैफिक व्यवस्था संभालने का प्रयास करते रहे, लेकिन वाहन चालकों ने उनकी नहीं सुनी। अल्पना तिराहे के दूसरी ओर सड़क पर हिंदू उत्सव समिति के चुनाव होने के कारण ट्रैफिक वन-वे था। इस दौरान रेलवे स्टेशन के अंदर छठवें प्लेटफॉर्म तक पहुंचने के लिए कार में सवार यात्रियों को खासी मशक्कत करनी पड़ी।

एसी कोच से उतरे, धूप में तपे

छठवें प्लेटफॉर्म पर शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस के आने के बाद एसी कोच से उतरे यात्रियों को तेज धूप ने परेशान किया। प्लेटफॉर्म पर रेलवे ने फिलहाल चार शेल्टर (छोटे वेटिंग शेड), तीन टेंट और दो छोटे-छोटे छाते लगाए हैं। यात्रियों की संख्या को देखते हुए ये इंतजाम नाकाफी हैं। प्लेटफॉर्म पर पर्याप्त शेड नहीं होने से शताब्दी से आने और जाने वाले यात्री तेज धूप के कारण पसीने-पसीने होते रहे। शताब्दी से जाने के लिए तैयार यात्रियों का कहना है कि तेज धूप से सीधे एसी कोच में चढ़ना बीमारी को दावत देना है।

एंट्री से एक्जिट करते रहे वाहन

शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस की रवानगी के पहले एक निजी अस्पताल सहित कुछ यात्रियों के वाहन एंट्री से ही वापस निकले। साइड की पार्किग में कुछ वाहन ही नजर आए। कुछ लोगों ने तो वाहन प्लेटफॉर्म के पास ही पार्क कर दिए।

रेलवे ने यात्रियों के हित में ड्राइव-इन प्लेटफॉर्म की सुविधा दी है। फिलहाल वेटिंग शेड सहित पीने के पानी, चाय-कॉफी कोल्ड ड्रिंक आदि का एक स्टॉल प्लेटफॉर्म पर लगा दिया गया है।
