BOKARO: In a bid to facilitate better security and safety to passengers, the South Eastern Railway is installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system at Bokaro Railway Station under Adra Railway Division.Work of CCTV installation has already started and the facility will probably be operational after Diwali. The CCTVs will be set up at platforms and circulating area of the railway station. Assistant security commissioner of Adra railway division, Kamal Singh said CCTV surveillance system is being installed at Bokaro station under Integrated Security System (ISS) of railway.This will help security men in keeping vigil on the activities at station and provide security to passengers. "As many as 25 CCTV cameras will be put in place at different points at Bokaro Railway Station. The installation process has begun and probably will end in two months' time," said Singh.Though Bokaro Railway Station which is counted among 'A' category stations has low crime rate in comparison to other big stations, CCTV will give a boost to security measures at station premises. The hi-tech cameras have good resolution and can clearly capture the activities of passengers and other visitors.

Of the CCTV cameras, two movable ones are being installed at entry point (facing the parking lot) to keep a tab on the activities outside the terminals and the same will be extended to the corridor of Passenger Reservation System (PRS) to keep check on touts and other unauthorized people, said Singh.

Installation of cameras will also help in curbing trafficking apart from controlling petty crimes at the station. The CCTV footage can be viewed from the control room coming up near the parcel office of the station and it will be manned by security personnel round the clock.

The gadget is capable of recording and storing footage digitally for future analysis. Singh said apart from Bokaro, two other stations Adra and Purulia are also being equipped with CCTV cameras.

Bokaro railway station is the only major station under Adra Railway Division in Jharkhand. It is known to be the highest revenue earner in this division. Around 10,000 passengers commute via this station every day and about 37 trains pass through.

The Computerised Passenger Reservation Centres in Chennai Division of Southern Railway will function for one shift, similar to Sunday pattern of working (08.00 hrs. to 14.00 hrs) on 16.09.2013 (Monday) on account of ‘Onam’ festival.

The following weekly superfast special trains will be run to clear the extra rush of passengers during Pujaholidays.

Kamakhya – Yesvantpur - Kamakhya (via) Chennai Central Weekly Superfast Specials: T.No.02552 Kamakhya – Yesvantpur Weekly Superfast Special will leave Kamakhya at 14.00 hrs. on 2nd,9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th October 2013 and 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th November 2013 (Wednesdays), leave Chennai Centralat11.40 hrs. on Fridays and arrive Yesvantpur at 18.30 hrs. on Fridays.

T.No.02551 Yesvantpur - Kamakhya Weekly Superfast Special will leave Yesvantpur at 08.30 hrs. on 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th October 2013 and 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th November 2013 (Saturdays), leave Chennai Central at 16.10 hrs. on Saturdays and arriveKamakhya at 13.30 hrs. on Mondays.

The composition of the trains will be 1 First AC-cum-AC 2 tier, 1 AC 2-tier, 1 AC3-tier, 6 Sleeper Class, 6 General Second Class and 2 luggage-cum-brake van coaches.

The trains will stop at Rangiya, New Bongaigaon, New Alipurduar, New Coochbehar, New Jalpaiguri, Kishanganj, Barsoi, Malda Town, Rampurhat, Durgapur, Asansol, Adra, Bankura, Midnapur, Hijilli, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road, Brahmapur, Palasa, Vizianagaram, Duvvada, Samalkot,Vijayawada, New Guntur, Gudur, Chennai Central and Katpadi.

Advance reservation for the above trains are open.

PUNE: The Pune division of Central Railway has appealed to commuters and visitors at railway stations not to litter station premises, platforms and trains. As many as 911 persons faced action in last five months in Pune division for littering station premises.The action was initiated during a drive conducted at all prominent stations in the division starting from April 1 up to August 31. A fine amounting to Rs 95,650 was collected from booked cases.An official in the Pune division said that people were caught while throwing garbage on the platforms, plastic waste on tracks as well as in compartments. People were also booked for spitting in rail premises and throwing wrappers. People are suppose to make use of dustbins to dispose of garbage. A fine up to Rs 500 was imposed in every case, while people were also given strict warnings to avoid such act.The administration has said that action against persons littering platforms will continue.An official said that the administration has put posters on platforms to create awareness among commuters to keep the stations clean and that people can face action if caught making the premises unclean.

The administration has asked food stall vendors at stations to provide adequate dustbins to collect garbage and plastic waste.

(IRCTC), a Public Sector undertaking of the Ministry of Railways, has launched a new application (App) for Windows Phone and Windows 8 devices so as to facilitate the users with a new channel of booking e-tickets in addition to the existing portal. This new IRCTC-App, which has been launched in collaboration with Microsoft, provides ANYTIME, ANYWHERE access to IRCTC services.

With this alternative channel of booking, the passengers will have an additional convenience and better experience of booking e-ticket. 

Mr. Rakesh Tandon, CMD, IRCTC along with Mr. Joseph Landes, General Manager – Developer and Platform Evangelism, Microsoft Corporation launched the new app for the general public at a function held here today. 

The app has been made available exclusively for Windows devices. The users of Windows Phone, Windows 8 Desktop/Tab can download, completely free this application as per their requirement from the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store respectively.. 

Using this new app one can plan a trip, make railway reservations, check the PNR status and perform all the tasks already available on the IRCTC web site. It will be available throughout the day excepting 0800 – 1200 hrs and 2330 – 0030 hrs as per the existing Railway guidelines. 

The App will provide the users an enhanced experience of all IRCTC website services and will in fact offer a few exclusive services to the App users. The new and exciting features for the App-users will include Visual maps of train routes, Windows Phone live tiles (lighting up as train tickets) and access to saved traveler profiles from multiple devices are just a few to mention. 

This application will help a wide number of users as Windows is a widely familiar platform. It offers the best in class, security required while handling personal and financial data of customers. The move meets the objective of IRCTC among others to focus relentlessly on enhancing customer experience.

The Railway Photo Identity Cards of accredited Press Correspondents regarding grant of travel concession have been revalidated upto 30th April 2014.

Ministry of Railways have also decided to issue new Photo Identity Cards to the accredited Press Correspondents w.e.f. 1st May 2014. Accredited Press Correspondents may contact the concerned accredition certificate issuing agencies within their jurisdiction  regarding the revlidation procedure and issue of new Identity Cards which will valid from 1st May 2014.

RAIPUR: In the ticket checking drive conducted in August, South Eastern Central Railways registered 20,000 cases of ticketless passengers, with Rs 71.6 lakh collected as fine. According to railway officials, there has been an increase of 17.65 per cent as compared to last year's collection of Rs 60 lakh against 17,000 cases of ticketless passengers.

There has been a notable increase in the number of ticketless passengers from April to August. Railways have collected about Rs 4.34 crore as fines from April to August, against 1.20 lakh ticketless cases. It's almost an increase of nine per cent compared to last year's amount.

French organisation and management firm Keolis starts recruiting staff

The French O&M (organisation and management) firm Keolis has started recruitment of staff needed for L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad infrastructure.

The company will be hiring over 2,750 persons, according to V. B. Gadgil, Managing Director of L&TMRH.

Keolis is the largest private sector French transport and consulting company having major presence in world class railway projects across the globe.

L&T has partnered with Keolis for the management of the Rs. 16,500 crore Metro Rail project in Hyderabad.

“Our partner has already started recruitment but they are now focused on hiring senior management in HR and trainers. The pace of hiring will go up along with the progress of the work here,” Mr. Gadgil said.

The current recruitment by Keolis is only limited to the staff required for the 72 km railway system.

As part of the agreement, Keolis will hire and train the staff and run the railway system before handing the staff and system over to L&T.

This apart, the Hyderabad Metro Rail will also need over 20,000 people to run the commercial operations once the project is completed.

“Keolis has nothing to do with the recruitment related to commercial operations. We will identify another entity for that job,” said Mr. Gadgil.

The new IRCTC-App has been launched in collaboration with Microsoft.Giving this information, public relations officer (PRO) Amit Malviya said that CMD, IRCTC, Rakesh Tandon, along with general manager and developer and platform evangelism, Microsoft Corporation, Joseph Landes, launched the new application for the public at a function held here on Thursday. The app has been made available exclusively for Windows devices and users with Windows phone, Windows 8 desktop/tab can download this free application from Windows Phone Store or Windows Store.Users can plan a trip, make reservations, check the PNR status and use other features which are also available on the website. It will be available throughout the day except from 8am to 12pm and 23:30pm to 12am as per the existing railway guidelines.The app also offers exclusive services to the users including visual maps of train routes, Windows Phone live tiles and access to saved traveller profiles from multiple devices to mention a few.Malviya added that this application will help a wide number of users as Windows is a widely familiar platform. It offers the best in class, security required while handling personal and financial data of customers. The move meets the objective of IRCTC among others to focus relentlessly on enhancing customer experience.
