|
MUMBAI: Passengers travelling to Delhi will have the option of booking a berth on one more air-conditioned train from Mumbai. Central Railway (CR) has decided to introduce LTT-Hazrat Nizamuddin AC weekly express every Tuesday from July. Currently, Punjab Mail is the only Delhi-bound train on the CR route. It makes the 1,544-km journey in 26 hours and halts at 56 stations. Western Railway (WR) runs 14 trains per day for Delhi, including Duronto Express, Garib Rath Express, Rajdhani Express and August Kranti Rajdhani. The distance between Mumbai Central and New Delhi via Surat and Vadodara is 1,384 km. A Rajdhani or August Kranti Rajdhani takes almost 16 hours to reach the national capital. "The train on CR network will be useful as many travellers residing in Thane and Navi Mumbai find it difficult to reach Mumbai Central to board a train for Delhi. The frequency of the service can be increased depending on factors like demand, availability of path and coaches." a CR official said. Some commuters feel the train should halt at Thane or Kalyan. "A halt is necessary at Thane because road connectivity to LTT is poor," said Subash Gupta of the Rail Yatri Sangh. "There should be halt at Kalyan for people living in Ambernath and Badlapur," said P Yadav of Dombivli. |
