ग्वालियर. उत्तराखंड आपदा में फंसे तीर्थयात्रियों के लिए केंद्र सरकार ने क्या-क्या राहत कार्य किए हैं, शपथ-पत्र के साथ इसकी रिपोर्ट पेश की जाए। फंसे लोगों को देहरादून, हरिद्वार व ऋषिकेश से लाने के कोर्ट के पिछले आदेश के बाद कितनी विशेष ट्रेनें चलाईं गईं, उत्तर मध्य रेलवे जोन प्रशासन इसकी कम्प्लायंस (क्रियान्वयन) रिपोर्ट पेश करे।

ये आदेश हाईकोर्ट की ग्वालियर खंडपीठ के जस्टिस एके श्रीवास्तव व जस्टिस बीडी राठी की बेंच ने बुधवार को दिए। कोर्ट ने उत्तराखंड आपदा में फंसे मध्यप्रदेश के तीर्थयात्रियों की मदद करने तथा उन्हें सकुशल वापस लाने की मांग को लेकर दायर याचिका पर सुनवाई के दौरान प्रदेश शासन का पक्ष सुना।  सुनवाई के दौरान शासन की ओर से अतिरिक्त महाधिवक्ता एमपीएस रघुवंशी ने जवाब पेश किया। कोर्ट ने उन्हें निर्देश दिया कि वे मुख्य सचिव के माध्यम से अन्य प्रदेशों के सचिवों से राहत कार्य संबंधी रिपोर्ट पेश कराने का प्रयास करें।



ग्वालियर के 36 यात्री अब भी लापता



ग्वालियरत्न चारधाम यात्रा पर गए ग्वालियर के 36 यात्रियों का अब तक पता नहीं चल सका है। इससे परिजन की चिंता बढ़ गई है। कुछ यात्रियों के परिजन ऋषिकेश व देहरादून पहुंच गए हैं लेकिन वहां उन्हें सही जानकारी नहीं मिल पा रही है। यात्रियों की तलाश में ग्वालियर से गई अधिकारियों की टीम जोशी मठ पहुंच गई है। आपदा के बाद जिला प्रशासन ने ग्वालियर से गए यात्रियों की सूची उनके परिजन के हवाले से तैयार की है। पांच दिन पहले इस सूची में 152 लोगों के नाम शामिल थे जिनमें 11६ का पता चल चुका है। इनमें से तीन बुधवार की  रात जोशी मठ पर मिले हैं।

KANPUR: The heavy rainfall led to waterlogging in the sub-way at Kanpur Central Railway Station. The passengers could not use the tunnel. This gave them tough time as they had the only option of using the rail overbridge. Waterlogging was also witnessed on the tracks.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday opened India’s longest rail tunnel in Kashmir to provide a key link between the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region, even as UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi said that Kashmiris were fed up with violence.
Hours before ending a two-day visit to the troubled state, Manmohan Singh rode with school children on the inaugural run of the train through the 10.96-km-long tunnel to link Qazigund town in the valley with Banihal in Jammu region.The prime minister warmly shook hands with the overjoyed children and sat with them as the diesel train made its way from Banihal through the winding tunnel, an engineering marvel that took seven years to come up in a mountainous region.Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and central Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, a former chief minister, were with the prime minister in the train.After reaching Qazigund, Manmohan Singh went back on the same train to Banihal where he told a meeting attended by hundreds of people that the new train link will boost Jammu and Kashmir’s economic development.

“Today, we are dedicating a marvellous and wonderful feat of engineering crafted across the Himalayas,” he said. “This is not just an engineering marvel, but an all weather link between the valley and the rest of Jammu and Kashmir.

“This will usher in a new era in the development of the state, providing welfare and employment to the people here.”

The rail bridge between Udhampur and Banihal — the train runs through the Pir Panjal mountain range — is the highest in the world.An eight-coach train will operate on the route from June 27. The link cuts the distance between Qazigund and Banihal towns by 18km.

“I want to assure the people of Jammu and Kashmir that (my) government will extend all possible support for the development of the people here,” the prime minister said.

As he spoke in Urdu, Manmohan Singh struck a chord with the people at the rally. He was cheered each time he spoke about ushering development in the state.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi told the rally that the people of Jammu and Kashmir “are fed up with violence. They want peace and development...  I know very well that painful incidents happen here occasionally but our democracy has enough scope to sort out issues through dialogue and negotiations.”

The inauguration of the rail link and the public rally marked the end of their visit to Jammu and Kashmir during which Manmohan Singh laid the foundation of a hydro-electric project on the Chenab river in Jammu region and took part in two events in the Kashmir Valley.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state and the urban hub of the separatist campaign, remained tense for a second straight day Wednesday as security forces enforced restrictions for VVIP protection.

Motorists mostly stayed off the roads while people preferred to stay indoors. The next time, better not treat the PNR status generated by 139 centralised railways enquiry service as gospel.This was the lesson a group of IIT-M researchers learnt the hard way when they were offloaded from the Delhi-Chennai Duronto Express on June 18 because the automated text message on their mobile phone showing confirmed seats did not tally with the final reservation charts that declared the tickets as wait-listed.The group of seven, including researchers and students, were returning from Delhi after attending a workshop at the IIT-Mandi on text-to-speech synthesis technology for the visually challenged.“We had booked two sets of tickets almost two months in advance. Though they were initially wait-listed, we got the automated SMS from 139 a few hours before departure in which some tickets were confirmed and the rest were RAC,” said Anusha, who is a research associate on a text-to-speech synthesis project under way at IIT-M.

But, when the IIT-ians checked the chart at the Hazrat Nizamuddin station , they were shocked to find their tickets reverted to the wait-list. Imagining it to be a clerical error as they had a digitally generated proof of confirmed seats, the students boarded one of the coaches hoping to explain the situation to a Travelling Ticket Examiner.

Much to their chagrin, the TTE refused to accept the SMS confirmation and declared them as ticketless travellers. “The TTE even said the Railways was in no way obligated to the IRCTC as it was a private entity and that there was no option but for everyone to get down at the next halt,” said Anusha.

Though the Duronto does not have any scheduled stop between Delhi and Chennai, it has technical halts at a few stations.

As the group included four women, they were advised by their professor Hema Murthy not to wait till the train reached Jhansi and instead alight somewhere before it got too dark.

The group got off the train at Farah near Mathura and took a bus back to reach Delhi at 11 p.m.. With the help of their professor, the students took a flight to Chennai with the air tickets costing about Rs. 70,000.

When contacted, an IRTC official conceded that the episode was “very, very rare.” It was either a technical glitch in 139 or an eleventh hour pull-out of a coach on the train that led to the downgrading of the reserved seats to wait-listed status - a change which was not communicated to passengers.

The IRCTC is investigating why the automated text on PNR status was at variance with the final reservation charts.

The Ticket checking staff of South Central Railway, under the directions of Shri. A. Bharath Bhushan, Chief Commercial Manager conductedspecial surprise road checks at six different locations in Secunderabad and Hyderabad Divisions between 17th and 28th June 2013 and collected Rs 3.71 Lakh towards penalty from ticketless travelers. 

In Secunderabad Division, special surprise road checks were conducted at Cherlapalli, Chintalapalli, Nawandgi, Tandur and Vikarabad Railway Stations, involving Commercial Officers, Ticket checking staff, Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police personnel. As a result of the surprise check, a total of 1102 persons were apprehended for committing ticketless / irregular travel. Out of the 1102 persons apprehended,  786 persons were found travelling without Ticket and 65 persons  travelling  irregularly and  251  cases  of  Un-booked  Luggage.  An amount of Rs 3.47 Lakh was realized towards penalty from these persons toward pernalty.

In another surprise check, the Hyderabad Division of SCR conducted special road check at Umdanagar Railway Station under the supervision of Divisional Commercial Manager.  12 Ticket checking staff and 6 Railway Protection Force personnel were deployed in the check. As a result of the surprise check, a total of 85 persons were apprehended for committing ticketless / irregular travel.  Out of these, 68 persons were found travelling without Ticket and 5 persons  travelling  irregularly  and  6    cases  of  Un-booked  Luggage.  An amount of  Rs.25,000/- was realized towards penalty from these travelers. 

Several Express and Passenger trains were stopped at the above stations specially for ticket checking purpose and all the coaches of the trains were intensively checked at a time without leaving any scope for the errant to escape.

MADURAI: With electrification work having been completed on the Dindigul - Virudhunagar section, the railways may consider operating trains with electric locomotives sometime from July after authorisation from the commissioner of railway safety (CRS), who will be inspecting the section anytime soon. The electric traction work between Dindigul and Virudhunagar railway stations in the Madurai division were completed reportedly in April and the section is charged with 25 KV power from the sub-stations and awaiting the inspection of CRS, railway authorities said.

Madurai division had started operating its north-bound trains through electrical traction from September 2011 after the electrification was completed till Dindigul. The railway officials in the division had earlier announced that the electrification of the 106 km stretch between Dindigul and Madurai will be completed by March 31 and the entire infrastructure work and the tower wagon inspection was also completed by then.

R P Udayakumar, chief project manager, railway electrification of Southern Railway said, "We have submitted all the necessary documents required and the inspection may be carried out any time in the coming days. Once the CRS gives the clearance - authorising to operate trains under wires - the electric traction of the section will commence," he said.

Official sources in Southern Railway said that all the trains up to Madurai may be operated through electric traction since the junction is a transit point with stable lines and running rooms for loco pilots. Some of the trains may be operated on electric traction till Virudhunagar, which does not have such transit point facilities. However, the Southern Railway headquarters will decide on these operations, they said.

The electrification work from Madurai to Nagercoil was commenced during 2009-10 at an estimated cost of Rs 180 crore. The works on Nagercoil - Tirunelveli were completed last year and the electrification work is progressing on the Dindigul - Madurai - Tirunelveli - Tuticorin sections.

The infrastructure work of electric traction like post erection, wiring are complete from Madurai to Tirunelveli and Tuticorin. "The entire electrification work will be completed most probably by December 2013 and certainly by the end of this current fiscal," Udayakumar said. The electric traction will provide operational benefits to trains especially goods by reducing their running time. However, the full benefit of electric traction can be realised for passenger trains once the doubling of Chennai to Madurai section and towards the southern destinations are complete, railway sources said.

Days after eight soldiers were killed in a militant attack, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi strongly reaffirmed the government's commitment to Kashmir's development as they opened a historic train tunnel link that connects the Valley to the Jammu region."People here are fed up of bloodshed. The youth here want jobs. The UPA wants Kashmir's future to be written with secularism, development and democracy, where problems are solved through dialogue," Sonia said at the ceremony at Banihal station to flag off the first train on the route.It was the first visit to the state by Singh and Sonia after Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was hanged. About 10,000 security personnel were deployed in the town for the high-profile event that was held under the shadow of terror."Today, we begin a new chapter in Jammu and Kashmir. Through this rail link, Kashmir will eventually have an all-weather connect with the outside world. Even its remotest, backward regions will have equal opportunities. There will be development in tourism, handicrafts and other industries," Sonia said referring to the link which will reduce travel time on the stretch by over one hour.The 17.5 km link between Banihal in Jammu and Qazigund in the Valley is the first all-weather route between the two regions. Cited as the UPA's flagship project to showcase its reconstruction of Jammu and Kashmir, the stretch has a 11-km-long tunnel through the mighty Pir Panjal range.The only existing link on this route, the Jawahar Tunnel meant for road transport and opened in 1965, gets blocked in winter due to heavy snow. The rail tunnel runs 300 metres below Jawahar Tunnel and is shielded from the harsh winter.The line between Banihal and Qazigund has reduced the 35-km road journey to 17.5 km by rail. It also promises economical and faster transportation of goods, food grains and fuel to the Valley."I would ask railways to complete the remaining work of the Kashmir link as early as possible so that we can connect Kashmir with the development process in the rest of the country," Singh said after flagging off the first train.

Built by railways PSU IRCON, the Pir Panjal tunnel is the country's longest and Asia's second longest transport tunnel. It has cost Rs 1,691 crore and taken seven years to build in the face of engineering challenges which are part of the 345-km rail link from Jammu to Baramulla.

The railways plans to complete the link between Udhampur and Katra by August, leaving only the stretch between Katra and Banihal to be completed, which is scheduled to be commissioned by 2017.

Until then, the railways is working out a system in collaboration with the state government to launch a multi-modal travel ticket, with which people can come to Katra by train, take a bus until Banihal and board a train again to Srinagar with only a single ticket.
