Rs 3.71 Lakh Penalty Realized From Ticketless Travellers in Special Surprise Road Checks in June 2013

The Ticket checking staff of South Central Railway, under the directions of Shri. A. Bharath Bhushan, Chief Commercial Manager conductedspecial surprise road checks at six different locations in Secunderabad and Hyderabad Divisions between 17th and 28th June 2013 and collected Rs 3.71 Lakh towards penalty from ticketless travelers. 

In Secunderabad Division, special surprise road checks were conducted at Cherlapalli, Chintalapalli, Nawandgi, Tandur and Vikarabad Railway Stations, involving Commercial Officers, Ticket checking staff, Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police personnel. As a result of the surprise check, a total of 1102 persons were apprehended for committing ticketless / irregular travel. Out of the 1102 persons apprehended,  786 persons were found travelling without Ticket and 65 persons  travelling  irregularly and  251  cases  of  Un-booked  Luggage.  An amount of Rs 3.47 Lakh was realized towards penalty from these persons toward pernalty.

In another surprise check, the Hyderabad Division of SCR conducted special road check at Umdanagar Railway Station under the supervision of Divisional Commercial Manager.  12 Ticket checking staff and 6 Railway Protection Force personnel were deployed in the check. As a result of the surprise check, a total of 85 persons were apprehended for committing ticketless / irregular travel.  Out of these, 68 persons were found travelling without Ticket and 5 persons  travelling  irregularly  and  6    cases  of  Un-booked  Luggage.  An amount of  Rs.25,000/- was realized towards penalty from these travelers. 

Several Express and Passenger trains were stopped at the above stations specially for ticket checking purpose and all the coaches of the trains were intensively checked at a time without leaving any scope for the errant to escape.

नागपूर - नागपूरच्या मध्यवर्ती रेल्वेस्थानकाला जागतिक दर्जाचा "लूक' देण्यात येत आहे. बेल्जियम रेल्वे मंडळाच्या प्रतिनिधी मंडळाशी करार करून जगाच्या नकाशावर येईल, असे आधुनिक रूप मुख्य रेल्वेस्थानकाला दिले जाणार आहे. परंतु, मुख्य स्थानकापासून अवघ्या दोन किलोमीटरवरील अजनी रेल्वेस्थानकाचे सौंदर्यीकरण करताना येथे अपंग व्यक्तींना स्टेशनवर प्रवेश करण्यासाठी रॅम्प तयार केला नाही.

मुख्य रेल्वेस्थानकाच्या तुलनेत अजनी स्थानक स्वच्छ आहे. मात्र, सुरक्षेच्या दृष्टीने अजनीकडे दुर्लक्ष आहे. अजनी स्थानकाचा विकास सुरू असला तरीही प्रवाशांचे सामान तपासण्यासाठी "स्कॅनर' लावण्यात आले नाही. केवळ रेल्वे पोलिस दलाचा एक जवान येथे तैनात दिसतो.

अजनी रेल्वेस्थानकावर आधुनिक शेड, आरक्षण खिडक्‍यांचे नूतनीकरण केले. "ड्रॉप ऍण्ड गो'सारखी सोय येथे उपलब्ध करून देण्याचा प्रयत्नही झाला. प्रवासी रेल्वेच्या फलाटानजीक थेट वाहने घेऊन जात असल्याचे चित्र दर दिवसाला दिसते. याशिवाय या स्थानकावर अपंग बांधव प्रवासासाठी आल्यानंतर फलाटाच्या दुसऱ्या भागाला जाण्यासाठी कोणतीही सोय या स्थानकावर उपलब्ध नाही. अजनी रेल्वेस्थानकावर प्रवेश करताना रॅम्प तयार करण्यात आले नाही, हे विशेष.

व्हीलचेअरचा अभाव
अजनी रेल्वेस्थानकावर अपंग व्यक्तींसाठी रॅम्प नाही. तसेच अपंगांच्या सोयीसाठी व्हीलचेअरदेखील नाही. यामुळे अपंग व्यक्ती अजनी स्थानकावर येत नसल्याची खंत अपंग कल्याणकारी संस्थेचे वर्मा तेलंग यांनी व्यक्त केली.

प्रत्येक गाडीला थांबा हवा
नागपूर रेल्वेस्थानकावर पोहोचणाऱ्या काही मोजक्‍याच रेल्वेगाड्या अजनी रेल्वेस्थानकावर थांबतात. सेवाग्राम, वर्धा येथील शासकीय आणि निमशासकीय कार्यालयात नोकरीसाठी जाण्यासाठी अजनी रेल्वेस्थानकावर कर्मचाऱ्यांची सकाळी प्रचंड गर्दी असते. यामुळे सकाळी अजनी रेल्वेस्थानकावरून जाणाऱ्या प्रत्येक गाडीला येथे दोन मिनिटांचा थांबा हवा; जेणेकरून वर्ध्यासह या भागातील शासकीय कार्यालयातील कर्मचाऱ्यांना सोयीचे होईल, असे मत व्यक्त होत आहे.

To carry out maintenance work of track, signaling & overhead equipments, a jumbo block of five hours will be taken between Santacruz and Goregaon stations from 10.35 hrs to 15.35 hrs o­n Sunday i.e 30th June, 2013 o­n Up & Down through i.e fast lines.



During the block period, all Up & Down fast line trains will run o­n slow lines between Santacruz and Goregaon stations. Some Up & Down local trains will remain cancelled.

SWR CONDUCTS 53RD TOWN OFFICIAL LANGUAUGE IMPLEMENTATION COMMITTEE (TOLIC) MEETING ATHUBLI


The 53rd meeting of the Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) presided over by Shri A.K.Mital, Chairman of the Town Official Language Implementation Committee & General Manager of South Western Railway was held at Railway Officers Club (ROC), Hubli o­n Wednesday, the 26th June, 2013. The meeting was also attended by all the Heads of Central Govt. Offices, Banks, Public Sector Undertakings etc. located in Twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad.
In his presidential address, Shri ASHOK KUMAR MITAL, the Chairman of the Town Official Language Implementation Committee & General Manager of South Western Railway, noted that Hindi has been given a status of official language of the Union of India  in constitution and provisions have been made in Official language Act and Rules  under the constitution that official work should be done originally in Hindi.He suggested the officers to write at least o­ne or two lines in Hindi language in their notings, endorsements, correspondence etc.daily, so that their subordinate officials can be motivated to write in Hindi. He emphasized the use of technology in propagation of Hindi by using Unicode and o­nline would definitely help all employees.
Shri Mital suggested the members of TOLIC to conduct various Hindi programmes under the common banner of TOLIC during Hindi fortnight/week to be observed during September in consultation with the sub-committee comprised of Hindi officers of various offices in the twin city.
Earlier, while welcoming the TOLIC members, Shri O.P. Khare, Vice Chairman of the TOLIC, Mukhya Rajbhasha Adhikari & Controller of Stores, South Western Railway, highlighted the achievements of the committee during the last six months.He further said that TOLIC is a forum which provides opportunities to member offices to jointly help and cooperate each other in achieving the targets prescribed in Annual Programme  by department of Official language and in conducting Hindi progrmmes under the auspices  of TOLIC.
Shri Ajay Kumar Shrivastav, Deputy Director(Implementation), Department of Official Language/Bangalore, who attended the meeting, reviewed the reports received from various offices and urged the members to send their Quarterly Hindi Progressive Report o­n o­nline.He also demonstrated how to register o­nline to Rajbhasha department portal by registering some offices.  He urged the members to send their reports in time for reviewing the same.
The Member Secretary of the TOLIC, Smt. C. Latha, Rajbhasha Adhikari, SWR submitted the Progress report through power point presentation and conducted a successful deliberations.The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri Sachin.R.Jain,Rajbhasha Adhikari/Hqrs/Hubli.

Sooner or later, you may be able to take a short cut to reach the platforms at the city railway station through subway.

The Railway Board at New Delhi has initiated a project to construct a subway connecting all the six platforms in the station here, at an estimated cost of Rs six crore.

Vinod Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, South Western Railway, Mysore division said that of the estimated cost, Rs two crore has already been sanctioned to speed up the related works. Tenders have also been invited.

Now, stairs connected to the platforms through skywalk is the only bridge to access the platforms. But not it’s not acceptable to most passengers, especially senior citizens, said another officer.

The wooden stairs at platform one is in use since the inception of the station building during the erstwhile rule of Wadiyars.

A new technology will be incorporated during the construction of subway, without disturbing the movement of trains.

The project that was in the pipeline for the past two years, was finally approved by the Railway Board recently. The SWR headquarters at Hubli has the rights only to consider projects up to Rs two crore. The projects above Rs two crore will be vetted by the headquarters in Delhi.

However, the subway will be in addition to the escalator, which had also been planned a long time ago at the railway station.

When a pre-survey of passengers was conducted, most of the railway users preferred the subway against escalator for the obvious fear of tripping (again in the case of senior citizens) during an emergency.

Days after eight soldiers were killed in a militant attack, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi strongly reaffirmed the government's commitment to Kashmir's development as they opened a historic train tunnel link that connects the Valley to the Jammu region."People here are fed up of bloodshed. The youth here want jobs. The UPA wants Kashmir's future to be written with secularism, development and democracy, where problems are solved through dialogue," Sonia said at the ceremony at Banihal station to flag off the first train on the route.It was the first visit to the state by Singh and Sonia after Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was hanged. About 10,000 security personnel were deployed in the town for the high-profile event that was held under the shadow of terror."Today, we begin a new chapter in Jammu and Kashmir. Through this rail link, Kashmir will eventually have an all-weather connect with the outside world. Even its remotest, backward regions will have equal opportunities. There will be development in tourism, handicrafts and other industries," Sonia said referring to the link which will reduce travel time on the stretch by over one hour.The 17.5 km link between Banihal in Jammu and Qazigund in the Valley is the first all-weather route between the two regions. Cited as the UPA's flagship project to showcase its reconstruction of Jammu and Kashmir, the stretch has a 11-km-long tunnel through the mighty Pir Panjal range.The only existing link on this route, the Jawahar Tunnel meant for road transport and opened in 1965, gets blocked in winter due to heavy snow. The rail tunnel runs 300 metres below Jawahar Tunnel and is shielded from the harsh winter.The line between Banihal and Qazigund has reduced the 35-km road journey to 17.5 km by rail. It also promises economical and faster transportation of goods, food grains and fuel to the Valley."I would ask railways to complete the remaining work of the Kashmir link as early as possible so that we can connect Kashmir with the development process in the rest of the country," Singh said after flagging off the first train.

Built by railways PSU IRCON, the Pir Panjal tunnel is the country's longest and Asia's second longest transport tunnel. It has cost Rs 1,691 crore and taken seven years to build in the face of engineering challenges which are part of the 345-km rail link from Jammu to Baramulla.

The railways plans to complete the link between Udhampur and Katra by August, leaving only the stretch between Katra and Banihal to be completed, which is scheduled to be commissioned by 2017.

Until then, the railways is working out a system in collaboration with the state government to launch a multi-modal travel ticket, with which people can come to Katra by train, take a bus until Banihal and board a train again to Srinagar with only a single ticket.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday opened India’s longest rail tunnel in Kashmir to provide a key link between the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region, even as UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi said that Kashmiris were fed up with violence.
Hours before ending a two-day visit to the troubled state, Manmohan Singh rode with school children on the inaugural run of the train through the 10.96-km-long tunnel to link Qazigund town in the valley with Banihal in Jammu region.The prime minister warmly shook hands with the overjoyed children and sat with them as the diesel train made its way from Banihal through the winding tunnel, an engineering marvel that took seven years to come up in a mountainous region.Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and central Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, a former chief minister, were with the prime minister in the train.After reaching Qazigund, Manmohan Singh went back on the same train to Banihal where he told a meeting attended by hundreds of people that the new train link will boost Jammu and Kashmir’s economic development.

“Today, we are dedicating a marvellous and wonderful feat of engineering crafted across the Himalayas,” he said. “This is not just an engineering marvel, but an all weather link between the valley and the rest of Jammu and Kashmir.

“This will usher in a new era in the development of the state, providing welfare and employment to the people here.”

The rail bridge between Udhampur and Banihal — the train runs through the Pir Panjal mountain range — is the highest in the world.An eight-coach train will operate on the route from June 27. The link cuts the distance between Qazigund and Banihal towns by 18km.

“I want to assure the people of Jammu and Kashmir that (my) government will extend all possible support for the development of the people here,” the prime minister said.

As he spoke in Urdu, Manmohan Singh struck a chord with the people at the rally. He was cheered each time he spoke about ushering development in the state.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi told the rally that the people of Jammu and Kashmir “are fed up with violence. They want peace and development...  I know very well that painful incidents happen here occasionally but our democracy has enough scope to sort out issues through dialogue and negotiations.”

The inauguration of the rail link and the public rally marked the end of their visit to Jammu and Kashmir during which Manmohan Singh laid the foundation of a hydro-electric project on the Chenab river in Jammu region and took part in two events in the Kashmir Valley.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state and the urban hub of the separatist campaign, remained tense for a second straight day Wednesday as security forces enforced restrictions for VVIP protection.

Motorists mostly stayed off the roads while people preferred to stay indoors. And although Srinagar was calm, militants shot dead a businessman turned politician in the northern town of Sopore on Wednesday. Kifayat Hussain was killed from close range when he was talking on the telephone near a petrol pump. He had contested the 2008 assembly elections from Sopore.
