लांजा- सतत पाऊस असूनही सुरळीत चाललेल्या कोकण रेल्वेच्या वाहतुकीला मंगळवारी गालबोट लागले. तुफानी पावसामुळे तालुक्यातील आडवली व विलवडे रेल्वेस्थानकादरम्यान असलेल्या बेर्डेवाडी बोगद्यानजीक दरड कोसळून भलामोठा दगड रेल्वे ट्रॅकवर आला. या वेळी नेत्रावती एक्स्प्रेस येत होती. मात्र ट्रॅकमन आणि मोटरमनच्या प्रसंगावधानामुळे संभाव्य अपघात टळला. संततधार पावसामुळे सकाळी सव्वानऊच्या सुमारास बेर्डेवाडी बोगद्याजवळ १.०५ क्युबिक मीटर दरड रेल्वे ट्रॅकवर कोसळली. या ठिकाणी असणा-या डोंगराचा रेल्वे ट्रॅकला धोका पोहोचू नये यासाठी खबरदारीचा उपाय म्हणून लोखंडी संरक्षक जाळी बसवण्यात आली आहे. मात्र ही जाळी ऊन व पावसामुळे जीर्ण झाल्याने दरडीला रोखू शकली नाही. रेल्वे प्रशासनाने दरड बाजूला करण्यासाठी युद्धपातळीवर काम हाती घेण्यात आले. पावसामुळे यात अडचणी येत होत्या. अखेर अडीच तासांत ही दरड बाजूला करण्यात आली व दुपारी १२ वाजता रेल्वे सेवा सुरळीत झाली. या घटनेचा फटका कोकण रेल्वेला बसला. जनशताब्दी एक्स्प्रेसही रत्नागिरी स्थानकात थांबवण्यात आली. या घटनेमुळे नेत्रावती, जनशताब्दीसह सावंतवाडी-दिवा पॅसेंजर, गोवा संपर्क क्रांती एक्सप्रेस गाड्या विलंबाने धावत होत्या.

At a time when the increasing traffic congestion is  suffocating the growing city, various residents associations in and around Tripunithura have come forward with a suggestion that allotting halts to more express trains at Tripunithura Railway Station can solve the traffic woes to an extend. 

According to the associations, if more express train are allowed stops at   the station, the commuters would not have to travel to the Eastern parts of the district. “Now the commuters have to depend on the Ernakulam Town Railway Station instead of the station at Tripunithura. So, thousands of commuters are being forced to travel an extra 15 kilometres,” the residents association members said.

Tripunithura Rajanagari Union of Residents Association (TRURA) chairman V P Prasad said the extra journey is not only inconvenient for the people but also leaves the city traffic in a mess. Hence, the solution is to allot halts for express trains at Tripunithura. The development of the station has to be given importance as Tripunithura Railway Station, with two platforms that can accommodate 24 bogies each, is still highly under utilised,” said V P Prasad.

P Rajeev M P has said he was conducting discussions in this regard with the Railway authorities.

 “I have requested the authorities to allot halts for Parashuram Express and Island Express at Tripunthura. If the Railways takes a positive step, it will definitely avoid the inconvenience caused to the commuters,” he said.

He added that the Railway station will require more connectivity once  the Kochi Metro Rail becomes operational. “Now, with the authorities  considering the extension of Kochi Metro Rail from Pettah to Tripunithura,  it is the right time to start discussions in this regard,” he added.

However, Railway Area Manager, Ernakulam, P L Ashok Kumar said that it is too early to think about allotting halts for more express trains at Tripunithura. “As of now, they are not considering any such proposals. The  discussions to extend Kochi Metro Rail to Tripunithura are only on its preliminary stage. If such an extension takes place, we will definitely study the suggestion put forward by the residents and take appropriate action,” Ashok Kumar said.

रेलवे ट्रेक पर हादसों में कैसे कमी लाई जाए ताकि वन्य जीवों की जान सुरक्षित रहे इसके लिए मोतीचूर में राजाजी नेशनल पार्क व रेलवे अधिकारियों की बैठक हुई । बैठक में सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को बेहतर बनाने के लिए मंथन किया गया।
बुधवार को मोतीचूर वन विश्राम भवन में आयोजित बैठक में रेलवे ट्रेक पर वन्य जीवों खासकर हाथी की सुरक्षा को लेकर विचार विमर्श हुआ। अधिकारी इस बात को लेकर चिंतित दिखे कि रेलवे ट्रैक पर गश्त के बावजूद हादसे हो रहे हैं। यह बात भी सामने आई कि सबसे अधिक दुर्घटनाएं सुबह के समय, रेल चालक व गश्त में होने वाली लापरवाही से हुई हैं। गश्ती टीम का रेल चालक से सीधे वाकी टाकी से न जुड़ा होना भी परेशानी पैदा करता है। पार्क निदेशक एस पी सुबुद्धि ने बताया कि रेलवे ट्रैक पर हाथी की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को बेहतर बनाने के लिए विचार विमर्श हुआ जिसमें वर्तमान दिक्कतों को देखते हुए नये सुझाव रखे गये। चालक से गश्ती टीम का सीधे संवाद कायम करने, वन कर्मी को रेलवे सिग्नल टार्च देने ताकि ट्रैक पर हाथी के होने की स्थिति में वह भी रेल को रूकने का इशारा कर सके और रेल इंजन डिब्बे में हरिद्वार से एक वन कर्मी को बैठाने जैसे कई नये सुझाव सामने आये हैं जिनको अंतिम स्वीकृति के लिए डीआरएम मुरादाबाद को भेजा जायेगा। बैठक में रायवाला, मोतीचूर, हरिद्वार, कांसरो व देहरादून रेलवे स्टेशन अधिकारियों सहित राजाजी पार्क के अधिकारी मौजूद रहे।

मोतीचूर में देखा गया घायल हाथी
रायवाला: बीते शुक्रवार को रायवाला के समीप काठगोदाम एक्सप्रेस की चपेट में आने से घायल हुआ हाथी मोतीचूर रेंज में कोयलपुरा के पास देखा गया। वन अधिकारियों ने उसके स्वस्थ होने का दावा किया है। पार्क निदेशक एसपी सुबुद्धि ने बताया कि घायल हाथी पर नजर रखी जा रही है। बुधवार को हाथी कोयलपुरा के पास देखा गया। चोट ज्यादा गंभीर नही है और अब वह स्वस्थ हो रहा है।

A number of consignments — mostly consisting of printed materials — is left exposed to the rains outside the building of Railway Mail Service (RMS) at Mangalore Central Railway station.On Wednesday, one could see a heap of bags dumped in front of the RMS building near Car Parking area with many of them soaked in water. One of the bags was open and all the printed material in it was fully wet. Only half of the consignments were covered by a tarpaulin. After each spell of rain, the water flowing on the concrete pathway could damage the consignments.

RMS officials said the bags containing bulk mail had been kept in the open because of lack of space within. “We do not have a shelter to keep these goods since it is large in quantity,” an official said.

It is difficult to dispose of consignments quickly to different destinations because staff members cannot segregate them destination-wise when it rains. “Each day the quantity of consignment increases,” he said. The official said that important mails have been kept safe inside.

The officials said higher-ups have been informed about this. “We are helpless,” one official said. Higher officials were not available for comment.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Wednesday that the newly opened rail tunnel linking the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region will better the lives of people in Jammu and Kashmir.Addressing a rally in Urdu in Banihal town of Jammu region after inaugurating the rail link earlier, Manmohan Singh said: "Today we are dedicating a marvellous and wonderful feat of engineering crafted across the Himalayas by our engineers."He added: "Despite difficult geographical conditions and adverse weather, this longest tunnel in the country has been completed within seven years.

"This is not just an engineering marvel, but an all weather link between the valley and the rest of Jammu and Kashmir.

"This will usher in a new era in the development of the state, providing welfare and employment to the people here."

The prime minister said the products of the Kashmir Valley, including handicrafts and fruits, would reach the rest of India through this railway link as will products from the rest of the country to the valley.

The railway bridge between Udhampur and Banihal would be the highest railway bridge in the World.

He said the rail tunnel was a part of his UPA government's commitment to develop Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the state had got in recent times 14 new colleges, nine ITIs and five India Reserve Police battalions, providing employment to locals.

"I want to assure the people of Jammu and Kashmir that the (central) government will extend all possible support for the development of the people here."

As he spoke in Urdu, Manmohan Singh struck a chord with the people at the rally. He was cheered each time he spoke about ushering development in the troubled state.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi told the rally that the "hardships faced by the people of the state during the winter months are now a thing of the past.

"Today's inauguration of the all weather link between Jammu and the valley is a part of the UPA's commitment to the peace and progress of the people here."

Gandhi said the National Conference-Congress government in the state had done commendable work in the last five years.

"The people in Kashmir are fed up with violence. They want peace and development.

"The large turnout of people during the Panchayat elections in the state is a proof of the people's desire for peace and development.

"I know very well that painful incidents happen here occasionally, but our democracy has enough scope to sort out issues through dialogue and negotiations."

Manmohan Singh and Gandhi will fly to Udhampur army base on their way to New Delhi.

A 11-km railway tunnel across the Pir Panjal mountain range, inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday, is not only the longest such in India but an engineering marvel and a "dream come true" for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

It took seven years for thousands of men, most of them highly-trained and skilled in tunnel building, who braved geographical constraints and inclement weather to build the all-weather tunnel. Some of the tunnel boring machinery - an improved Austrian version - has been used for the first time on such a large scale in the country during the laying of the tunnel.

A three-metre-wide road has also been provided inside the tunnel for maintenance and relief and rescue operations in the event of any eventuality.

"The tunnel has been made water-proof by providing a continuous PVC membrane between the primary and secondary lining. It is equipped with state-of-the-art air quality monitoring, communications, fire-fighting and emergency rescue systems," an engineer at the site told IANS, not wishing to be identified.

Built at a cost of Rs.1,300 crores ($213 million), the tunnel has reduced the surface distance between the Qazigund town in the Valley and Banihal town in the Jammu region by 18 km, besides providing an all-weather surface link between the two regions.

The over 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu highway, till today the only surface link between the landlocked Valley and the rest of the country, would often remain closed for days without end in the winter months due to heavy snowfall on the Banihal sector of the highway.

"That experience is now a thing of the past for the people of Jammu and Kashmir," Congress President Sonia Gandhi told a jubilant public rally here when an eight-coach train was flagged off from here to Qazigund.

The tunnel had been a dream for the people of the state and not many believed it would become operational in their lifetime.

"I had been hearing of a railway tunnel that would connect us with the Valley and the people there with Banihal and other parts of the country. Today, I have seen the dream come true before my own eyes," Siraj-ud-Din, 70, who was part of the jubilant crowd that saw history being made as the train cruised from here through the tunnel to the Valley, told IANS.

Others in the Valley are hopeful their horticultural produce would be carried at lower costs and without any hassles through the tunnel in the future.

"The tunnel is going to reduce the transportation cost for our fruit to terminal markets in the country and also ensure that it reaches in time , whether it is raining or snowing," Mushtaq Ahmad, who has a large apple orchard in north Kashmir's Sopore town, told IANS.

प्रतापगढ़। दिल्ली जाने के लिए स्टेशन से पद्मावत ट्रेन पकड़ना जंग जीतने जैसा है। ट्रेन जब वाशिंग लाइन से प्लेटफार्म पर आती है तो शुरू हो जाती है। इसमें सवार होने के लिए रस्साकशी। हर दिन शाम को पौने पांच बजे कुछ ऐसा ही देखने को मिलता है। गर्मियों की छुट्टियां खत्म होने के कारण दिल्ली व मुंबई जाने वाली ट्रेनों में अक्सर ऐसा नजारा देखने का मिलता है। स्टेशन पर हर दिन पद्मावत ट्रेन दिल्ली के लिए जाती है। महिलाएं और बच्चे तो सवार होने के लिए हिम्मत ही नहीं जुटा पाते। अगर किसी पुरुष ने अंदर घुसकर सीट कब्जा भी कर ली तो अन्य लोग मारपीट शुरू कर देते हैं। कुछ लोग तो खिड़कियों के रास्ते ही अंदर घुसने का प्रयास करते हैं। इस दौरान होने वाली मारपीट के साथ धक्कामुक्की को देखने वाला कोई नहीं होता है। अनारक्षित डिब्बों के पास कोई सिपाही नहीं दिखाई देता है। इतनी भीड़ के बावजूद स्टेशन प्रबंधन इस पर ध्यान नहीं दे रहा है।
ट्रेन आने पर यात्रियों को पानी के लिए प्लेटफार्म पर परेशानी का सामना करना पड़ता है। दो नंबर प्लेटफार्म की कुछ टंकियों की टोटियां न चलने से यात्रियों को पानी के लिए काफी पीछे जाना पड़ता है। कम समय रुकने वाली ट्रेनों के आने पर पानी के उतरे यात्रियों को दौड़कर ट्रेन पकड़नी पड़ती है।

Banihal/Qazigund, June 26:The train to Kashmir, chugging through India’s longest rail tunnel, has rolled at last but not from as far as it should have.
The Valley today got railway connectivity but only from Banihal, a small Jammu town, with Manmohan Singh flagging off an eight-bogey train carrying school children and officials to Qazigund in Kashmir.
The track — split into three sections — to link Kashmir with the rest of the country will take another four years to be laid, officially. Privately, the authorities say it could take many more.
Independence Day 2007 was the deadline announced in 2002 when the Kashmir rail line was declared a national project by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
But Prime Minister Singh struck a note of optimism today. “I am happy to announce this project is heading towards completion,” Singh, accompanied by Sonia Gandhi, said after inaugurating the stretch that includes the 11.2km tunnel, India’s longest.
The tunnel, almost 62 per cent of the 18km Banihal-Qazigund stretch, has been drilled through the treacherous Pir Panjal range of the Himalaya. The New AustrianTunnelling Method, which taps geological stress from surrounding rocks to stabilise the cavern, has been used for the first time in India, officials said.
It has reduced the distance between Banihal and Qazigund byover half and travel time by a third to 25 minutes.
But overall, the project is just halfway through, with only 145km of the full 292km track (Udhampur-Baramulla) finished or nearing completion.
“The railway track is divided into three sections, Udhampur-Katra, Katra-Qazigund and Qazigund-Srinagar-Baramulla. The 25km Udhampur-Katra link is almost complete. The 118km Qazigund-Baramulla link (in the Valley) has been operational for four years,” an official said.
The problem lies in the middle stretch that includes the portion opened today. “What remains is the toughest part with 80 per cent of the route comprising tunnels and bridges that take long to build,” said another official.
The Prime Minister admitted the task ahead was challenging. “Work on the Katra-Udhampur section will be completed in a few months. Only the Udhampur-Banihal line will remain. It is a challenging task. It consists of a 359-metre-high rail bridge, the world’s highest.”
Singh also outlined the project’s history and the early challenges. “Maharaja Pratap Singh (former Dogra ruler) had dreamt of this project in 1898. After Independence, Jammu got connected with the rest of India through rail. Indira Gandhi started work on the difficult Chenab section (Udhampur-Qazigund) in 1983.”
What Singh didn’t say is that this was his fourth project-related inauguration. He opened the Jammu-Udhampur (54km) stretch in 2005, Anantnag-Mazhama (66km) in 2008 and Anantnag-Qazigund (18km) in 2009. Sonia, too, had opened a 35km stretch in 2009. Before Singh, Indira, Rajiv Gandhi, Deve Gowda, I.K. Gujral and Vajpayee presided over ceremonies related to the track.

मुंबई से चल रहे तत्काल कोटे के टिकट के खेल में वहां के 27 रेल आरक्षण केंद्र शामिल हैं। इन केंद्रों की सूची और वहां से जारी होने वाली टिकटों की संख्या से जुड़ी अहम रिपोर्ट लखनऊ से रेलवे बोर्ड को भेज दी गई है।

उधर, मुंबई से लगातार 11 दिनों से जारी हो रहे तत्काल कोटे के खेल पर मध्य रेलवे कोई कार्रवाई नहीं कर सका है। इससे अब भी अस्सी फीसदी तत्काल कोटे के टिकट मुंबई से ही बन रहे हैं।

लखनऊ और गोरखपुर तक के बीच के स्टेशनों पर रात भर लाइन लगाने के बावजूद पहला व दूसरा नंबर होने पर भी यात्रियों को वेटिंग के टिकट मिल रहे हैं।

जिन रेल आरक्षण केंद्रों पर तत्काल के टिकट बनाने का गोरखधंधा चल रहा है वह अधिकतर दक्षिणी मुंबई क्षेत्र के हैं। लखनऊ की एंटी फ्रॉड टीम ने सेंटर फॉर रेलवे इंफारमेशन सिस्टम (क्रिस) उत्तर की मदद से मुंबई के उन रेल आरक्षण केंद्रों का पता लगाया है, जहां दलाल रेलकर्मियों की मदद से तत्काल के टिकट बनवा रहे हैं।

24 जून को 25 जून का तत्काल आरक्षण खुलने पर इन 27 केंद्रों से कुशीनगर एक्सप्रेस की स्लीपर श्रेणी के 302 में से 191 लोगों के टिकट बने थे जबकि ट्रेन (12541) गोरखपुर-लोकमान्य तिलक टर्मिनल सुपरफास्ट एक्सप्रेस की कुल 107 में से 75 यात्रियों के टिकट 12 रेल आरक्षण केंद्रों से बन गए।

इस गोरखधंधे में मुंबई के एक पोस्ट ऑफिस का नाम भी सामने आ रहा है। उस पोस्ट ऑफिस में तत्काल के टिकट बन रहे हैं। यही नहीं, रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक शिरडी साईंधाम से लेकर कल्याण व मुंबई से दादर और उससे सटे वापी तक के रेल आरक्षण केंद्रों पर दलालों का राज है। इन रेल आरक्षण केंद्रों से पवन एक्सप्रेस, गोदान एक्सप्रेस, महानगरी एक्सप्रेस सहित उत्तर भारत से मुंबई जाने वाली सभी मुख्य ट्रेनों के तत्काल टिकट निकल रहे हैं।

ऐसे बैठ रहा गणित
दलाल मुंबई लौटने वाले यात्रियों की जरूरत के मुताबिक, अपना मेहनताना तय करते हैं। सामान्य तौर पर स्लीपर श्रेणी का प्रति व्यक्ति एक हजार और एसी का दो हजार रुपये अतिरिक्त लिया जा रहा है। अकेले कुशीनगर एक्सप्रेस की स्लीपर श्रेणी की 260 सीटों के लिए रोज करीब 2.60 लाख रुपये, एसी तृतीय व द्वितीय की 30 सीटों के लिए 60 हजार रुपये की कमाई दलाल कर रहे हैं।

ट्रेन (12541) गोरखपुर-लोकमान्य तिलक टर्मिनल सुपरफास्ट एक्सप्रेस में भी स्लीपर की 90 सीटों के लिए 90 हजार रुपये और एसी की दस सीटों के लिए 20000 रुपये की दलाली ली जा रही है। रोजाना केवल इन दो ट्रेनों की तत्काल सीटों के एवज में यात्रियों से वसूले गए 4.30 लाख रुपये दलालों के जरिए रेल आरक्षण केंद्रों के बाबुओं से लेकर अधिकारियों तक पहुंच रहे हैं।

A banana-laden lorry from Ayyankolli near Gudalur fell into a roadside gorge near Palavasi on the Udhagamandalam — Coonoor road and landed on The Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) track.Driver of the lorry Baby (53) and cleaner Vijayan (45) sustained injuries. Both are undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The incident was noticed by the railway line gang men who were checking the tracks in the morning. Immediately, the NMR service from Coonoor to Udhagamandalam scheduled for 7.45 a.m. and return trip from Udhagamandalam to Coonoor at 9.15 a.m. were cancelled. The Mettupalayam — Udhagamandalam NMR service was partially cancelled at Coonoor.

Crane was pressed into service to remove the truck and this resulted in affecting the road traffic on the Coonoor — Udhagamandalam section also for nearly two-hours. The truck was finally removed from the track around 1 p.m. Regular NMR service was later resumed.
