The Ministry of Railways has decided that relief material, viz. food, medicines, clothes, building materials, utensils etc, will be carried to Uttarakhand free of cost by coaching trains for a period of 15 days, i.e. from June 25 to July 9.The relief material will be consigned to the District Magistrate of the district concerned on production of a certificate from the consignor that the consignment is a gift in kind or has been purchased with the funds donated by public for flood victims and has not been paid for by the government or any of its agencies.No claim for any loss or damage to the consignment carried under this arrangement will be entertained unless it is clearly proved that the loss or damage took place due to willful negligence on the part of the Railways.

NEW DELHI: Amid reports that over 50 metro stations in Delhi are located in high seismic zones, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation today said all its structures are designed according to set guidelines to ensure safety during earthquakes."The Delhi Metro Rail structures are completely safe in case of any seismic or tectonic activities like earthquakes taking place in Delhi," a DMRC spokesperson said.The spokesperson maintained that the Metro rail structures have all been designed to handle seismic events corresponding to zone 4 and all Indian codes (IRC:6, BIS:1893, BIS:13920 and RIS codes) which give guidance on designing of structures for earthquakes, and "have been strictly followed in all the structural construction of the Delhi Metro Project".

As per reports, the Global Assessment Report (GAR) released on June 3 by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction says that more than 50 stations under phases I and II are located in areas of high-earthquake hazard, exposing the line to earthquakes of up to a magnitude of 8 on the Richter scale.

"But the same study in its conclusion clearly said that the direct risk to Metro structures and rail line structures have already been addressed and reduced owing to application of risk sensitive building codes," the spokesperson claimed.

"The Metro design engineers have adequately addressed all risks to Metro structures which may happen during an earthquake," the spokesperson said, adding that the structures are absolutely safe for carrying passenger traffic.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Wednesday that the new rail tunnel linking the troubled Kashmir Valley and Jammu region will help develop Jammu and Kashmir.Addressing hundreds in Urdu here in Jammu region after inaugurating the rail link, Manmohan Singh said: “Today, we are dedicating a marvellous and wonderful feat of engineering crafted across the Himalayas.”He added: “Despite difficult geographical conditions and adverse weather, this longest tunnel in the country has been completed within seven years.

“This is not just an engineering marvel, but an all weather link between the valley and the rest of Jammu and Kashmir.

“This will usher in a new era in the development of the state, providing welfare and employment to the people here.”

The Prime Minister said the products of the Kashmir Valley, including handicrafts and fruits, would reach the rest of India through this railway link as will products from the rest of the country to the valley.

The rail bridge between Udhampur and Banihal would be the highest railway bridge in the world.

He said the rail tunnel was a part of his UPA government’s commitment to develop Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the state had got in recent times 14 new colleges, nine ITIs and five India Reserve Police battalions, providing employment to locals.

“I want to assure the people of Jammu and Kashmir that (my) government will extend all possible support for the development of the people here.”

As he spoke in Urdu, Manmohan Singh struck a chord with the people at the rally. He was cheered each time he spoke about ushering development in the state.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi told the rally that the “hardships faced by the people of the state during the winter months are now a thing of the past.

“Today’s inauguration of the all weather link between Jammu and the valley is a part of the UPA’s commitment to the peace and progress of the people here.”

Gandhi said the National Conference-Congress government in the state had done commendable work in the last five years.

“The people in Kashmir are fed up with violence. They want peace and development.

“The large turnout of people during the Panchayat elections in the state is a proof of the people{gt}s desire for peace and development.

“I know very well that painful incidents happen here occasionally, but our democracy has enough scope to sort out issues through dialogue and negotiations.”

Manmohan Singh and Gandhi will fly to Udhampur army base on their way to New Delhi.

The Pir Panjal railway tunnel is the longest transportation tunnel in India

The Kashmir Valley railway (Qazigund-Baramula section) is a 119-km-long modern railway line that became fully operational in October 2009.

It connects Baramula in the western part of Kashmir to Qazigund at the other end of the Valley, via Srinagar.

With today’s inauguration, the extension of this railway line beyond the Pir Panjal Mountains to the Jammu region has been achieved

लांजा- सतत पाऊस असूनही सुरळीत चाललेल्या कोकण रेल्वेच्या वाहतुकीला मंगळवारी गालबोट लागले. तुफानी पावसामुळे तालुक्यातील आडवली व विलवडे रेल्वेस्थानकादरम्यान असलेल्या बेर्डेवाडी बोगद्यानजीक दरड कोसळून भलामोठा दगड रेल्वे ट्रॅकवर आला. या वेळी नेत्रावती एक्स्प्रेस येत होती. मात्र ट्रॅकमन आणि मोटरमनच्या प्रसंगावधानामुळे संभाव्य अपघात टळला. संततधार पावसामुळे सकाळी सव्वानऊच्या सुमारास बेर्डेवाडी बोगद्याजवळ १.०५ क्युबिक मीटर दरड रेल्वे ट्रॅकवर कोसळली. या ठिकाणी असणा-या डोंगराचा रेल्वे ट्रॅकला धोका पोहोचू नये यासाठी खबरदारीचा उपाय म्हणून लोखंडी संरक्षक जाळी बसवण्यात आली आहे. मात्र ही जाळी ऊन व पावसामुळे जीर्ण झाल्याने दरडीला रोखू शकली नाही. रेल्वे प्रशासनाने दरड बाजूला करण्यासाठी युद्धपातळीवर काम हाती घेण्यात आले. पावसामुळे यात अडचणी येत होत्या. अखेर अडीच तासांत ही दरड बाजूला करण्यात आली व दुपारी १२ वाजता रेल्वे सेवा सुरळीत झाली. या घटनेचा फटका कोकण रेल्वेला बसला. जनशताब्दी एक्स्प्रेसही रत्नागिरी स्थानकात थांबवण्यात आली. या घटनेमुळे नेत्रावती, जनशताब्दीसह सावंतवाडी-दिवा पॅसेंजर, गोवा संपर्क क्रांती एक्सप्रेस गाड्या विलंबाने धावत होत्या.

वसई- उत्तराखंडच्या जलप्रलयात अडकलेले वसईतील ६५ यात्रेकरू मंगळवारी खास हरिद्वारच्या रेल्वेने वसईला परतले. मात्र या वेळी त्यांची विचारपूस करायला अथवा त्यांना मदतीचा आधार द्यायला स्थानिक प्रशासन, राजकीय नेते पुढे आले नाहीत. त्यामुळे परराज्यात आलेल्या जीवघेण्या संकटापेक्षा आपल्याच भागात आलेली उपेक्षा या यात्रेकरूंच्या अधिक जिव्हारी लागली.
उत्तराखंडाच्या महाप्रलयात वसईच्या नायगाव परिसरातले ६५ यात्रेकरू अडकले हाते. १४ जून रोजी ते चारधाम यात्रेसाठी गेले होते. गेल्या अनेक दिवसांपासून त्यांचे नातेवाईक चिंतेत होते. त्यांच्या सुखरूप परतण्याकडे नातेवाईकांचे डोळे लागले होते. तब्बल १० दिवसांनी हे यात्रेकरू वसईत परतले. उत्तरकाशीच्या ब्रह्मखाळ परिसरात होते. अचानक अतिवृष्टी झाली आणि ते तेथेच अडकून राहिले. पाय गारठल्याने त्राण उरला नव्हता इतका प्रचंड पाऊस होत होता, अशी माहिती पांडुरंग गंगीकर आणि नारायण गंगेकर-कोळी या यात्रेकरूंनी दिली. आपल्या आयुष्यात पहिल्यांदा आपण निसर्गाचा एवढा मोठा तांडव पाहिल्याचेही त्यांनी सांगितले.
वीजपुरवठा खंडित झाला होता, मोबाइलचे नेटवर्कही अधूनमधून जात होते. त्यामुळे नेमके काय घडतेय हेच कळत नव्हते. वृत्तवाहिन्यांवर जेव्हा वसईतील नातेवाइकांनी उत्तराखंडमधील जलप्रलयाच्या बातम्या पाहिल्या. तेव्हा नातेवाइकांनी आपल्याशी मोबाइलवरून संपर्क साधला. त्यावेळी उत्तराखंडमध्ये काय घडतेय ते कळले. त्यामुळे आम्हाला ब्रह्मखाळ येथेच अडकून राहावे लागले. ज्यांनी जेवणाचे साहित्य आणले होते, त्यांनी जेवण बनवले. मात्र पाण्याअभावी खूपच हाल सोसावे लागले. तिथल्या काहींनी तर पैसे उकळण्याचा प्रयत्न केला. शौचालयासाठी तब्बल १५ रुपये मोजावे लागत होते. पिण्याच्या पाण्यासाठी ५० रुपये आणि बिस्किटसाठी २५ रुपये आकारले जात होते, अशी खंतही पांडुरंगबुवा यांनी व्यक्त केली.
सकाळी साडेआठ वाजण्याच्या दरम्यान हे यात्रेकरू वसई रेल्वे स्थानकावर उतरले. वसई-विरार महापालिकेचे महापौर नारायण मानकर यांनी त्यांचे स्वागत केले. त्यांनी या यात्रेकरूंना वडा व समोसा खाऊ घातला. मात्र, १० दिवसांच्या थरारक प्रवासानंतर परतलेल्या या हतबल यात्रेकरूंची ओझी उचलायला कोणीही पुढे आले नाही.
तहसीलदार अथवा प्रशासनाचे अन्य अधिकारी व कर्मचा-यांपैकी कोणीही या यात्रेकरूंची विचारपूस करण्यासाठी फिरकले नाही. घरापर्यंत पोहोचण्यासाठी या यात्रेकरूंनी स्वत:च वाहनांची शोधाशोध केली. वसई रेल्वे स्थानकावरून हे यात्रेकरू गणेशपुरी येथील गरम पाण्याच्या कुंडाजवळ गेले. तेथे अंघोळ करून त्यांनी नित्यानंद स्वामींचे दर्शन घेतले. त्यानंतर ते आपल्या घरी गेले.

Asia’s second largest tunnel across the Pir Panjal mountain will connect the landlocked Kashmir Valley with Banihal town of the Jammu region. It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Built at a cost of Rs.1,300 crore, the tunnel will reduce the distance between Qazigund town in south Kashmir's Anantnag district and Banihal town by 17 km. It will be an all-weather surface link.

Some rare photographs on 160 years of the Indian Railways are on display at a photography exhibition, which began here on Tuesday.Around 200 photographs depict the inception and development of the Railways since April 16, 1853 when the first train chugged out from Bori Bunder to Thane.

The photographs display various facets of locomotives and trains, carriages and wagons, the architecture of various railway stations and bridges and tunnels.

Manan Jain, a class 5 student, said he enjoyed it as he got to see different types of trains.

General Manager of South Western Railway Ashok Kumar Mital inaugurated the exhibition, which will be on till July 1 at the Venkatappa Art Gallery between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

रेलवे ट्रेक पर हादसों में कैसे कमी लाई जाए ताकि वन्य जीवों की जान सुरक्षित रहे इसके लिए मोतीचूर में राजाजी नेशनल पार्क व रेलवे अधिकारियों की बैठक हुई । बैठक में सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को बेहतर बनाने के लिए मंथन किया गया।
बुधवार को मोतीचूर वन विश्राम भवन में आयोजित बैठक में रेलवे ट्रेक पर वन्य जीवों खासकर हाथी की सुरक्षा को लेकर विचार विमर्श हुआ। अधिकारी इस बात को लेकर चिंतित दिखे कि रेलवे ट्रैक पर गश्त के बावजूद हादसे हो रहे हैं। यह बात भी सामने आई कि सबसे अधिक दुर्घटनाएं सुबह के समय, रेल चालक व गश्त में होने वाली लापरवाही से हुई हैं। गश्ती टीम का रेल चालक से सीधे वाकी टाकी से न जुड़ा होना भी परेशानी पैदा करता है। पार्क निदेशक एस पी सुबुद्धि ने बताया कि रेलवे ट्रैक पर हाथी की सुरक्षा व्यवस्था को बेहतर बनाने के लिए विचार विमर्श हुआ जिसमें वर्तमान दिक्कतों को देखते हुए नये सुझाव रखे गये। चालक से गश्ती टीम का सीधे संवाद कायम करने, वन कर्मी को रेलवे सिग्नल टार्च देने ताकि ट्रैक पर हाथी के होने की स्थिति में वह भी रेल को रूकने का इशारा कर सके और रेल इंजन डिब्बे में हरिद्वार से एक वन कर्मी को बैठाने जैसे कई नये सुझाव सामने आये हैं जिनको अंतिम स्वीकृति के लिए डीआरएम मुरादाबाद को भेजा जायेगा। बैठक में रायवाला, मोतीचूर, हरिद्वार, कांसरो व देहरादून रेलवे स्टेशन अधिकारियों सहित राजाजी पार्क के अधिकारी मौजूद रहे।

मोतीचूर में देखा गया घायल हाथी
रायवाला: बीते शुक्रवार को रायवाला के समीप काठगोदाम एक्सप्रेस की चपेट में आने से घायल हुआ हाथी मोतीचूर रेंज में कोयलपुरा के पास देखा गया। वन अधिकारियों ने उसके स्वस्थ होने का दावा किया है। पार्क निदेशक एसपी सुबुद्धि ने बताया कि घायल हाथी पर नजर रखी जा रही है। बुधवार को हाथी कोयलपुरा के पास देखा गया। चोट ज्यादा गंभीर नही है और अब वह स्वस्थ हो रहा है।
