इलाहाबाद : खुर्जा रेलवे स्टेशन पर संगम एक्सप्रेस का इंजन शंटिंग के दौरान पटरी से उतर गया। इसके चलते सिगनल ने काम करना बंद कर दिया। इससे दिल्ली-हावड़ा रूट की डाउन लाइन कुछ देर के लिए बाधित हो गई। ट्रेनों को धीमी गति से निकाला गया। इस कारण प्रयागराज समेत दर्जनों ट्रेनें विलंबित हो गईं। उधर डीआरएम ने घटना की जांच के लिए आदेश दिये हैं।

सोमवार की रात खुर्जा रेलवे स्टेशन पर संगम का इंजन शंटिंग के दौरान लूप लाइन पर पटरी से उतर गया। इसके चलते सिगनल ने काम करना बंद कर दिया। इससे डाउन लाइन की ट्रेनों को विभिन्न स्टेशनों पर रोक दिया गया। गाजियाबाद से पहुंची रिलीफ ट्रेन ने तकरीबन तीन बजे भोर इंजन को उठाया। लूप लाइन में हुई घटना के कारण दिल्ली-हावड़ा की मेन लाइन पर ज्यादा असर नहीं पड़ा। हालांकि डीरेलमेंट के बाद ट्रेनों को विभिन्न स्टेशनों पर रोक दिया गया। सिगनल भी ठीक करने का प्रयास किया गया। बाद में ट्रेनों को धीमी गति से रेलवे स्टेशन से गुजारना पड़ा। इसके चलते प्रयागराज, रीवांचल, पुरुषोत्तम, ऊंचाहार, ब्रह्मपुत्र, लालकिला समेत कई ट्रेनें विलंब से इलाहाबाद जंक्शन पर पहुंचीं। डीआरएम हरींद्र राव ने घटना की जांच के आदेश दे दिए हैं। सीपीआरओ संदीप माथुर के अनुसार डाउन लाइन पर ट्रैक बाधित नहीं हुआ था। सिगनल फेल होने के कारण कुछ देर के लिए ट्रेनों को रोका गया। बंचिंग होने के कारण ट्रेनें विलंबित हुईं।

Nearly nine years ago when, Sharanappa Yalal relocated his base to Kashmir as the project manager of the 11 km Pir Panjal railway tunnel, the longest in India, most locals told him, it was never going to happen. Yet after a three-year delay, technical snags and several complications, the Rs 800-crore project is all set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow.Besides the one of its kind tunnel, the Rs 1,800-crore Uri 240 MW Hydroelectric project, situated very close to the line of control, is also expected to take off very soon. It is learnt that the inauguration of the hydro-power project has been removed from the itinerary of the PM due to some technical snags.  The horse shoe shaped diversion tunnel, created for generating hydropower, will benefit Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh. Around 13% of the power generated will go to Jammu & Kashmir.Both projects have been executed by the Hindustan Construction Company, which had also undertaken the Bandra-Worli sea link project in Mumbai.The Pir Panjal tunnel, which runs below the 2.5 kms long Jawahar tunnel, connects Bichelri valley of Banhial in Jammu with Quazigund in Kashmir and it is expected to link J&K to the Indian railway network through the year. It is a part of the 345-km long Jammu Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Railway Link, aimed at connecting Jammu with Baramulla “Earlier due to snowfall, Jawahar tunnel would have to be closed during the winter months. But Pir Panjal tunnel is at a lower height and long enough to keep snowfall at bay,” Yalal said.

He added that the project will be very helpful for the army personnel and their cargo movement from one place to another. While both projects are of strategic importance to India, the local businesses and trade also stands to benefit by improved rail connectivity. Irtif Lone, a Srinagar based businessman said, “The freight rates would come down for raw materials if goods are brought on rail instead of trucks. This has been one hurdle to industrialisation of Kashmir. Besides, it will impact the prices of commodities also.”

Engineering Marvel

Drilling into the capricious rocks was not an easy task for both the projects. At various points the technical team encountered problems of seepage, softer topography of the rocks which made the work difficult. The Pir Panjal Tunnel projects boasts of using technology never used before in India for “safe tunneling.”

New Australian Tunneling Method was brought in for observing three-dimensional movement of the rocks and avoiding collapses whenever weaker rock was being drilled. The tunnel has also used the ballast less tracks which are easy on maintenance.

A three-metre wide road runs alongside the track inside the tunnel as a safety measure to keep the tunnel accessible under all circumstances. The tunnel walls are lined with a water proofing membrane brought from Italy for seeping water that gets drained outside, keeping the all weather tunnel dry and flood-free.

However, all the technical experiments did not pay of that well. For instance the two road headers brought in from Germany was not of much use and had to be scrapped at the end.   Tough ground to work on

Technical challenges aside, construction or any industrial activity in Kashmir comes with its own set of problems. The Uri –II Hydroelectric project in 2005 was not off to the best start with the earthquake taking a huge toll on the lives and property in the Valley. Security issues also played their part in slowing down the pace of the project.

The proximity of the dam to the Line of Control meant that the checks on movement of labour and officers working on the project were much more stringent that usual. Besides, for days together all construction work would come to a halt to the stone pelting incidents which were rife in Kashmir during 2010.

Both project combined employed 2,700 labourers who worked in three shifts all throughout the day and year. Skilled manpower came in short supply. Retaining them was another problem, since workers would leave the site for other jobs like farming or return to the villages when the winter came.

While the snowfall during the peak winters did not bring the construction activity to a complete halt, it drastically slowed down activity. Work, also had to be stopped during the Amarnath Yatra. Amid all this, getting the logistics in place and keeping the smooth supply of raw materials was a major challenge due to poor connectivity. Challenges Ahead

With several dams now constructed on the Jhelum river, Pakistan has gone for international arbitration against such moves, since it reduces the flow of water to the neighboring country. India so far has maintained its stand that it will adhere to the minimum level of flow required. Although odds are in the favour of India, final decision on the matter is yet to be made by the international court.

There are also reservations among the localites on whether trains from Baramulla to Qazigund will be able to have a smooth run when it snows, outside of the tunnel. For power situation also, not many are upbeat as it does not yet mean that the power cuts will reduce in the smaller towns and villages of Jammu and Kashmir.

“I don’t think there will be any significant impact on the power situation in the state. For so much that we generate we get so little since everything goes to the central grid,” Lone added.

Bathinda :
Monday will be an eventful day for the railway under bridge (RUB) on the Bathinda-Mansa road. The design for re-structuring collapsed portions is expected to arrive from the Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh. Besides, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Delhi division, is expected to decide on the plea of the district administration for opening the old railway crossing barricade near the Central University of Punjab.Deputy Commissioner KK Yadav said the DRM would respond tomorrow about the opening of the railway crossing No. D 240. “We have sent a request to open the old route for light vehicles. Heavy vehicles will continue to take the diverted route via Jodhpur Romana village,” he said, adding that efforts were being made to open the path through Phus Mandi village. “Very soon, we will be able to open the second route from Phus Mandi side for light vehicles to enable smooth movement of traffic,” he said.Superintenting Engineer PWD (B&R) Madan Lal said dismantling would be completed by tonight. “We expect the new design from the PEC to arrive by tomorrow. The moment the designs are delivered to us, we will be on the job of re-structuring the collapsed portion,” he said.The re-structuring will be done in phases. The department plans to re-structure the collapsed portion first and open it for light vehicles. Thereafter, work on the opposite wall will be taken up.

The committee formed to inquire into the incident is also expected to submit its report to the state government tomorrow. The report will then be marked to the district administration for further action.

ઉધના-વારણસી અઠવાડીક ટ્રેનના શુભારંભનો કાર્યક્રમ આજે એક તમાશો બની ગયો હતો. ઉધના રેલ્વે સ્ટેશને યોજાયેલા આ કાર્યક્રમમાં ભાજપ અને કોંગ્રેસ પક્ષના કાર્યકરોએ ભારે નારાબાજી કરીને સરકારી કાર્યક્રમને રાજકીય અખાડો બનાવી દીધો હતો. ભારે શોરબકોર અને અરાજકતા વચ્ચે અંતમાં કેન્દ્રના રાજ્ય કક્ષાના મંત્રી ભરતસિંહ સોલંકીએ લીલી ઝંડી બતાવીને નવી ટ્રેનનું પ્રસ્થાન કરાવ્યું હતું.
ઉધના રેલ્વે સ્ટેશનના પ્લેટફોર્મ નં. ૨ ઉપર એક કલાક રાજકીય પક્ષોના કાર્યકરોએ સરકારી કાર્યક્રમને માથે લીધું હતું. ભાજપ અને કોંગ્રેસના કાર્યકરો સાંસદો અને નેતાઓ સાથે આવી પહોંચ્યા હતા અને કાર્યક્રમની શરૃઆતમાં સૂત્રોચ્ચાર સાથે માથાકૂટ શરૃ થઇ હતી. રાજકીય પક્ષોના કાર્યકરોનો એજન્ડા કાર્યક્રમ નહીં થવા દેવાનો હોય તેમ નારાબાજી છેક સુધી જારી રહ્યા હતા.
કાર્યક્રમના આરંભમાં સાંસદ સી.આર. પાટીલે વક્તવ્યની શરૃઆત કરતાં જણાવ્યું કે, ભાજપના આંદોલનને કારણે બે વર્ષ પછી સુરતને આ નવી ટ્રેન મળી છે. આ ટ્રેનથી જો કે, અમારી જરૃરીયાત સંતોષાતી નથી. બજેટમાં જાહેર થયા પ્રમાણે ટ્રેન શરૃ કરવામાં આવી છે. પણ, આ ટૂકડો ફેંકવાથી માંગણી સંતોષાતી નથી. કેન્દ્રીય મંત્રી ડૉ. તુષાર ચૌધરીએ એક સંમેલનમાં કરેલી ટીપ્પણીનો જવાબ આપતાં તેમણે જણાવ્યું કે, તેઓ કહે છે કે, આંદોલનને કારણે ટ્રેનો અપાઇ નથી. પણ, અમે આંદોલન કર્યું અને પશ્ચિમ રેલ્વેના ડીઆરએમએ એક જ દિવસમાં ૧૬ માંગણીઓ સ્વીકારી હતી.
જો કે, સાંસદ પાટીલે પ્રવચનમાં કોંગ્રેસને ફીક્સમાં મૂકવાની શરૃઆત કરતાં ભારે હોબાળો શરૃ થયો હતો અને કોંગ્રેસી કાર્યકરોએ સૂત્રોચ્ચાર કરીને તેઓને પ્રવચન કરતાં રોકવાની ચેષ્ટા કરી હતી. સાંસદને ઓછામાં ઓછા ચારેક વખત બોલતાં અટકાવવામાં આવતાં, મામલો ગરમાયો હતો. કોંગ્રેસી કાર્યકરોએ ઘોંઘાટ મચાવીને નારાબાજી ચાલું રાખતાં, ભાજપ કાર્યકરોએ પણ વળતો મોરચો માંડયો હતો.
કેન્દ્રીય મંત્રી તુષાર ચૌધરીએ સાંસદ પાટીલના મંતવ્ય સામે ભારે નારાજગી વ્યક્ત કરીને ભાજપ કેવી રીતે જાહેર કાર્યક્રમોમાં પ્રોટોકોલનો અમલ નહીં કરી, કોંગ્રેસના નેતાઓને મંચ ઉપર સ્થાન નથી આપવા દેતાં, તેની હૈયાવરાળ ઠાલવી હતી. તેમણે સ્પષ્ટ જણાવ્યું કે, કેન્દ્ર સરકાર પ્રોટોકોલ પ્રમાણે જ ચાલે છે. આ જે નવી ટ્રેન મળી છે, તે રજૂઆતોને કારણે મળી છે. આ રાજનૈતિક મંચ નથી, સરકારી કાર્યક્રમ છે. એટલે હું એવી કોઇ વાત નહીં કરૃં એમ તેમણે જણાવ્યું હતું. જો કે, કેન્દ્રીય મંત્રી તુષાર ચૌધરીને પણ પ્રવચન નહીં કરવા દેવા ભાજપ કાર્યકરોએ ભારે શોરબકોર અને નારાબાજી કરીને વાતાવરણ ગજવી નાંખ્યું હતું.
ઉધના-વારાણસી નવી અઠવાડીક ટ્રેનના શુભારંભના એક કલાકના કાર્યક્રમમાં પોણો કલાક નારાબાજી અને આક્ષેપ-પ્રતિઆક્ષેપમાં પૂરો થયો હતો. કેન્દ્રના રાજ્ય કક્ષાના મંત્રી ભરતસિંહ સોલંકીએ પોતાના ભાગે આવેલા પાંચ મિનિટના પ્રવચનમાં આ ટ્રેનથી બધા ખુશ છે, કોંગ્રેસ પણ ખુશ છે, ભાજપ પણ ખુશ છે, બધાએ આ ટ્રેન માટે ખૂબ રજૂઆત કરી છે. આ માટે દરેકને અભિનંદન આપું છું, એમ કહીને ટ્રેનને લીલી ઝંડી આપીને રવાના કરી હતી.

अतिरेक्यांच्या हिटलिस्टवर असलेल्या नागपूर रेल्वे स्थानकावर आता चोवीस तास बॉम्बशोधक व नाशक पथक (बीडीएस) तैनात करण्याचा निर्णय लोहमार्ग पोलिस मुख्यालयाने घेतला आहे. मनमाड आणि नांदेड स्थानकावरही अशाच प्रकारचे पथक लवकरच तैनात करण्यात येणार आहे.
लोहमार्ग पोलिसांकडे असलेल्या बीडीएसमध्ये २५ जण आहेत. मात्र , पथक एक व संवेदनशील स्थानके जास्त. त्यामुळे पोलिसांची अडचण व्हायची. त्यामुळे आता अशी तीन पथके तयार करण्यात आली आहेत. ही तिन्ही पथके नागपूर , नांदेड व मनमाड येथे प्रत्येकी एक या प्रमाणात तैनात केली जाणार आहेत. श्वानपथक एकच आहे. त्यामुळे मनमाड व नांदेड येथे गरज पडल्यास ते तेथे पाठविले जाईल. नागपूर स्थानकावर सर्वाधिक वर्दळ असते. रोज १७५ गाड्या येथून धावतात. त्यामुळे श्वानपथक कायमस्वरूपी येथेच ठेवण्याचा निर्णय घेण्यात आला आहे.

Banihal: The 11 km long railway tunnel between Banihal and Qazigund is ready with nearly 200 CCTVs, 25 telephone booths and a number of auto sensors installed in it to ensure a hassle free journey for commuters."192 CCTVs, 25 exhaust fans, 25 telephone booths and a number of auto sensors to indicate fire and other troubles have been installed inside the tunnel," IRCON officials constructing the vital Kashmir rail project told PTI ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's scheduled visit on June 25.Singh, along with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other leaders from the Centre and state, is scheduled to be present when the railway tunnel is inaugurated on June 25.A control room set up at Banihal railway station will monitor all activities inside the tunnel built in the Pir-Panjal range, officials said.Keeping in mind any eventualities, engineers have also constructed a six metre wide motor road along with the railway track.
"A six metre wide motor road along with railway track has been constructed inside tunnel for rescue and relief operations in case of any emergency," officials said, adding that the high-tech Pir-Panjal Railway tunnel was water and fire proof.
Built at a cost of Rs 1,300 crore by the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), the 11.3 km long tunnel will connect Kashmir Valley with the Banihal town of Jammu division and will be India's longest and Asia's second longest railway transport tunnel, officials said.
It has taken seven years to complete the entire project, they added. With completion of Banihal-Qazigund tunnel, another leg of the 273 km long Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail project, which has 911 minor and major bridges apart from 114 km long tunnels, has been completed.
The yet to be completed first phase of the project connecting Udhampur with Katra is 25 km long, has 38 bridges and 11 km long tunnels.
The KatraQazigund section is 129 km long, with 68 railway bridges and 103 km long tunnels.
Third phase of the prestigious project between Qazigund and Baramulla is 119 km in length, with 811 minor and major railway bridges. However, there is no tunnel in this section, which is in the Kashmir valley, officials said.
"The QazigundBanihal section will reduce distance between the two divisions of Kashmir and Jammu by about 17 km," HCC project manager for the railway tunnel, Sarnappa Yalal, said.
"Problems faced by commuters travelling between Banihal and Qazigund due to closure of Jawahar Tunnel in the winters will largely be mitigated by running train services between Banihal and Baramulla.
"Moreover, distance between the two towns will be reduced from 35 km road length to 17.72 km rail route," he said.

GUWAHATI: Criticizing the delay in completion of railway projects in the northeast, CPI (M)'s youth wing, Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), on Sunday accused the Centre of not giving importance to improvement of railway connectivity in the region.The Tripura and Assam units of DYFI has decided to stage a demonstration before the Northeast Frontier Railway headquarters at Maligaon on August 7, demanding early completion of railway projects. DYFI Tripura unit president, Tapas Dutta, said broad gauge conversion of tracks in South Assam is an important railway projects, but it is still incomplete.

कोडरमा-गिरिडीह रेलखंड में कोडरमा से नवाडीह 34 किलोमीटर तक रेल परिचालन 25 जून को शुरू हो जाएगा। इसके लिए रेलवे महकमे ने तैयारी शुरू कर दी है। पूर्व-मध्य रेलवे निर्माण के द्वारा कोडरमा से नावाडीह तक ओपन लाइन को हस्तांतरित करने के बाद धनबाद रेल मंडल इस रेलखंड पर परिचालन शुरू करेगा। इसके मद्देनजर बुधवार को धनबाद रेल मंडल के अपर मंडल रेल प्रबंधक राजेश मोहन ने निर्माण विभाग के अधिकारियों के साथ डीजल इंजन दो स्पेशल सैलून के जरिए कोडरमा से नावाडीह के बीच तक विंडो इंस्पेक्शन किया।कोडरमा स्टेशन पर एडीआरएम राजेश मोहन ने पत्रकारों से बातचीत करते हुए कहा कि कोडरमा-नावाडीह रेल खंड पर पैचिंग का कार्य पूरा हो चुका है और कुछ अन्य कार्य बाकी है जिसे अगले दो-तीन दिनों में पूरा कर लिया जाएगा। संभवत: 25 जून को इस खंड पर रेल परिचालन को शुरू कर दिया जाएगा। इसके लिए मुख्यालय से अनुमति मिलने बाकी है।

श्री मोहन ने बताया कि इस खंड पर परिचालन शुरू होते ही कोडरमा स्टेशन को जंक्शन का दर्जा मिल जाएगा। पूछे जाने पर उन्होंने बताया कि यात्री सुविधा को और बेहतर बनाने के लिए रेल प्रशासन कृतसंकल्पित है। इसके तहत स्टेशन कोच इंडीकेशन बोर्ड की सुविधा भी मुहैया कराई जाएगी।

बताते चलें कि इस सप्ताह कोडरमा-नावाडीह रेलखंड पर चलनेवाली डीएमयू ट्रेन के शुभारंभ के मौके पर पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री सह कोडरमा सांसद बाबूलाल मरांडी व स्थानीय विधायक अन्नपूर्णा देवी को विशेष रूप से आमंत्रित किया जाएगा।

निरीक्षण के दौरान वरीय मंडल संरक्षा अधिकारी बीएन लाल, वरीय मंडल संकेत एवं दूरसंचार अभियंता अमरेंद्र कुमार, वरीय अनुभाग अभियंता डी. दत्ता, निर्माण विभाग के उपमुख्य अभियंता एमएम प्रसाद, कार्यपालक अभियंता पीसी प्रसाद, सहायक अभियंता एके सिंह, पीडब्ल्यूआई एचएन चौबे, रेलवे यूनियन गझंडी शाखा के सचिव एमके महाराज आदि मौजूद थे।

इधर, अधिकारियों के कोडरमा पहुंचने पर स्टेशन प्रबंधक अरविंद लाल, सीटीआई केके ओझा, यातायात निरीक्षक अरविंद कुमार सुमन ने उनका स्वागत किया।

Western Railways (WR) is under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) scanner for not implementing malaria-prevention measures at their workshops.

Three days ago, the BMC’s insecticide department sent a notice to the divisional railway manager for not carrying out preventive steps to curb the breeding of mosquitoes, which spread diseases such as dengue and malaria.

On June 12, the BMC’s insecticide department sent notices to various land-owning authorities in Mumbai including Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA), the army, navy and Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada), Mumbai Port Trust, the National Textile Corporation, Western and Central Railways, telling them to make their premises free of mosquito-breeding sites by clearing scrap that can hold water and become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, and plugging leaks in buildings and water tanks to avoid water accumulation.

Following the notices, the civic body’s insecticide officers inspected the sites.

“Most of the agencies have taken preventive steps to avoid breeding grounds. We found that WR’s workshop has train wheels stacked in a horizontal position which may lead to accumulation of water in the wheels.

Also, they are yet to clear scrap materials lying in their premises,” said R Naringrekar, chief insecticide officer, BMC.

He added that the civic body has given them a notice to complete work by June 27.

Sharat Chandrayan, chief PRO, WR, said, “We have our own system in place and we regularly conduct fogging.

In case we need assistance, we contact the BMC.”

Until June 21, the city had reported 532 malaria and 17 dengue cases. Doctors said that with intermittent rainfall, the risk of breeding sites developing is even higher.
