Overcoming several hurdles, Kerala Monorail Corporation Ltd (KMCL) on Wednesday signed the general consultancy agreement with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for the ambitious Rs.5,581-crore elevated mass rapid transit system in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode.The agreement was signed by S.D. Sharma, Director, Business Development, DMRC, and P.C. Harikesh, Managing Director, KMCL, in the presence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, his Cabinet colleagues including Minister for Public Works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shashi Tharoor, Speaker G. Karthikeyan, legislators, Principal Adviser of the DMRC E. Sreedharan, and top officials at the Assembly complex here.The Chief Minister said the monorail for the two cities were dream projects of his government like that of Kochi Metro Rail and sought the cooperation of all for time-bound completion of the projects. He congratulated Mr. Kunju and Mr. Sreedharan for enabling the project to take off. Mr. Sreedharan said it was a red-letter day for the DMRC and promised that the latest and the best of frontline technology would be introduced in the two cities.A single agreement was signed with the DMRC for the projects, as the general consultant and executing agency are the same. The DMRC will get 3.25 per cent of the Rs.5,581 crore as consultancy fee and the mode of payment will be on quarterly basis. |

Jammu : The suspended train services have been restored today by the Northern Railways, which were affected by floods in Uttarakhand. The only train from Jammu to Rishikesh, Hemkunt Express, which was suspended and others which were diverted for the last two days, have been restored today.The Hemkunt Express has finally been moved towards Rishikesh after two days from Jammu, and heavy rush was observed at the Jammu Railway Station. However, many passengers had already cancelled tickets due to the uncertainty about the departure of the train.“We were eagerly waiting for the announcement at the railway station with our fingers crossed about the departure of the Hemkunt Express. Finally, we are relaxed when the authorities have confirmed that the train will depart at right time from Jammu,” said Sushil Yadav, a passenger from Rishikesh, who was here to pay obeisance at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.Eight trains from Jammu following this route were affected due to the damage of the railway line on the Ambala-Saharanpur route. Hemkunt Express was suspended, and seven others, Begampura Exp, Jat Anvt Spl, Sealdah Express, Archana Express, Shalimar Exp, Lohit Express and Uhp BSB Spl were diverted to the Ambala-Panipat-Delhi route. The route has been cleared this morning and all the trains have been restored on the said route.RN Meena, divisional traffic manager, Jammu, said, “As the track was damaged due to flood in Uttarakhand, we had to suspend the Hemkunt Express and divert other trains towards the Ambala-Delhi route via Panipat on Monday and Tuesday. However, it has been restored today”. |

: Speed trial using a special train formation will be conducted on the newly-laid broad-gauge railway line between Manamadurai and Virudhunagar stations on Friday. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (South Zone – Bangalore) will conduct the speed trial between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. to assess the fitness of the newly-laid track. A railway statement issued here requested all users of the railway line and general public living along the gauge-converted section not to come near the railway track during the trial. |
