THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Many track stretches under the jurisdiction of Thiruvananthapuram Division are not patrolled by trackmen for the last many days, following protests raised against the decision to deploy women for night patrolling.

When the rainy season began, the authorities had deployed 320 women for monsoon special track patrolling. They were supposed to work from 9pm to 4am and check whether the rains have damaged the tracks. However, the decision to deploy women on night duty along the deserted tracks received stiff protests from the workers' union. Now, none of the women go for the work. Meanwhile, men are taking up double and triple duty in many stretches, while remaining stretches are completely ignored.

"It is the duty of the track man/woman to check the tracks at night and inform whether there is any damage on track, owing to flood, tree fall, land slide, etc. Since the state receives maximum rains during this season, the chances of such incidents are high. However, it was not a wise decision from the part of administration to deploy women for the night duty," said a senior railway engineer.

When contacted, a senior administration officer said the decision to deploy women was unintentional. "In fact, it was girls - mostly graduate and post graduate - who cleared the tests held to various posts of the engineering department. Incidentally, it was not mentioned in the advertisement that the vacancy is for the post of track man/woman. Now, following protests from the unions we have decided not to send the women for night patrolling. The trackmen are now forced to take up double and triple duties," said the officer.

The division has 12 sections under it, starting from Nagercoil till Vallathole Nagar. At least 200 track men/track woman work under each section and check the tracks regularly. The workers' unions are now planning to start protest against the administration for the work allotment that has been in place for the last one year.

उधर से गाड़ी सं. 05061 गोरखपुर-बांद्रा टर्मिनस विशेष ट्रेन 21 एवं 28 जून, 2013 को गोरखपुर से 07.10 बजे प्रस्थान करेगी और अगले दिन 17.35 बजे बांद्रा टर्मिनस पहुंचेगी. इस गाड़ी को यात्रा के दौरान दोनों दिशाओं में बोरीवली, वापी, सूरत, भरूच, वडोदरा, गोधरा, दाहोद, रतलाम, नागदा, भवानी मंडी, रामगंज मंडी, कोटा, सवाईमाधोपुर, हिन्डौन सिटी, भरतपुर, अछनेरा, मथुरा जं., हाथरस सिटी, कासगंज, फार्रुखाबाद, कन्नौज, कानपुर सेंट्रल, लखनऊ जंक्शन, गोंडा, बस्ती एवं खलीलाबाद स्टेशनों पर हाल्ट दिया जाएगा.
इस समय मुम्बई से गोरखपुर की तरफ जाने के लिए भले ही उतनी भीड़ नहीं है, पर उधर से आने वाली गाडिय़ां पूरी तरह पैक आ रही हैं. आरक्षित डिब्बों की दशा अनारक्षित डिब्बों से भी बदतर हो गई है. जिसके मद्देनजर रेल प्रशासन ने यह निर्णय लिया है.

Mangalore MP writes to the Minister listing out demands


With Mallikarjun Kharge taking over as the Railway Minister, the activists and politicians and the traders’ body of the region hope that some of the long-pending proposals of the region would get the Ministry’s attention.People have been demanding divisional headquarters at Mangalore and bringing it under the South Western Railway Zone (based at Hubli) from the Southern Railway Zone (headquartered at Palakkad); construction of additional platforms at Mangalore Central, implementation of the three-year-old announcement on converting Mangalore into a ‘world-class railway station’, upgrading Mangalore Junction; doubling of Konkan-Railway track and additional fast night passenger between Mangalore and Bangalore.Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, has already written to Mr. Kharge seeking implementation of many of these demands.The issues raised by Mr. Kateel also include: making Karwar-Yeshwanthpur a daily train instead thrice a week, better facilities at Subramanya station, arrival of Chervatur-Mangalore Passenger train (No. 56661) in Mangalore Central station at 8.30 a.m.; extension of passenger train to Puttur to Subramanya, doubling of tracks between Mangalore and Subramanya, building second platform and roof at Bantwal Station and development of Kabakaputtur as model station. He has pointed out that some media reports indicated that there were efforts to divert the weekly train between Mangalore and Bangalore announced in 2013-14 to run via Kannur and Selam instead of Arasikere. (Activists allege that Kerala and Tamil Nadu railway lobby was behind such moves).Mr. Kateel has warned the Minister that any such move would be resisted.District in-charge Minister Ramanath Rai said he would bring pressure on Mr. Kharge about “several issues” pertaining to the Railways.West Coast Rail Yathri Development Committee Chairman Hanumanth Kamath hoped that longstanding demands would get attention now that Mr. Kharge has been put in charge of the ministry. He said efforts are on to get in touch with him so that a delegation of activists is taken to either Delhi or meet him during his next visit to the State. Mr. Kamath said action had not been initiated three years after the then Railway Minister announced that Mangalore Central would be made a world-class railway station. Other improvements in the two stations of the city have also been ignored.G.G. Mohandas Prabhu, who heads the sub-committee of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Railways and represents the chamber in Palakkad Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee, said a memorandum to be submitted to Mr. Kharge is being drafted highlighting various demands.

पलपल इंडिया ब्यूरो, मुंबई. मॉनसून को ध्यान में रखते हुए मध्य रेलवे ने नेरल से माथेरान के बीच चलने वाली टॉय ट्रेन को तत्काल प्रभाव से बंद करने का निर्णय किया है, जबकि माथेरान के प्रति मुम्बईकरों के  क्रेज को ध्यान में रखते हुए अमनलाज और माथेरान के बीच चलने वाली शटल सेवाएं जारी रहेंगी.
अमनलाज और माथेरान के बीच रोजाना 14 सेवाएं (अप एंड डाउन मिलाकर) चलाई जाएंगी. पहली गाड़ी अमनलाज से सुबह 9.30 बजे माथेरान के लिए प्रस्थान करेगी. माथेरान से 15.30 बजे अमनलाज के लिए अंतिम गाड़ी रवाना की जाएगी.
इसके पहले मानसून के दौरान (मध्य जून से मध्य अक्टूबर तक) नेरल और माथेरान के बीच ट्रेन सेवा पूरी तरह ठप रहती थी. जिससे रिमझिम फुहारों के बीच माथेरान की सैर का आनंद उठाने की चाह रखने वालों को असुविधा होती थी. लोग अमनलाज तक तो टैक्सी और बस से पहुंच जाते थे, पर आगे वाहनों के जाने का परमिशन न होने के कारण घोड़े या खच्चरों का सहारा लेना पड़ता था, जो बरसात के दौरान कभी-कभी काफी रिस्की (जोखिमभरा) साबित होता था. जिसे ध्यान में रखते हुए मध्य रेलवे के तत्कालीन महाप्रबंधक सुबोध जैन ने पिछले वर्ष बीच का रास्ता निकालते हुए अमनलाज और माथेरान के बीच मानसून के दौरान शटल शुरू की. जिसे इस वर्ष भी जारी रखा जाएगा.

Yamunanagar ; The continuous receding of flood waters from the district brought the much needed relief to the affected villages. The Yamuna river, which wrecked havoc in the district after bringing in more than 8 lakh cusecs of water from the hills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, was today carrying around 77,000 cusecs of water.The repair work undertaken by the railways on a war footing today brought the Ambala-Hardwar track back in operation at 3.30pm. Railway officials said the movement of trains on the track had been restored which had remained suspended since Sunday. The National Highway-73 was also opened for the traffic, but hardly any vehicle passed through it as the flood had completely washed away the road which was already in a bad shape even before the flood.Long queues of trucks and buses could be seem parked on the road as a few trucks overturned on the road due to deep ditches. The rainwater, which had accumulated in various lanes of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri towns, had also started receding. A number of mud houses in the affected villages were also washed away.Deputy Commissioner K M Pandurang said the administration would undertake a detailed survey to assess the losses suffered by residents so that they could be adequately compensated by the state government. He said district officials were still monitoring the weather in the upper reaches of the hills.The number of villages, which were cut off from the district after a bridge on the river at Burdiya village was washed away, still had no access to other parts of the district. The officials maintained that more than 150 villages had been directly or indirectly affected by these floods and efforts were afoot to restore normalcy in the flood-hit areas.

The action committee opposing the high-speed rail corridor project will take out a Collectorate march and hold a dharna on June 22.Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, the action committee members said the project costing Rs. 1.18 lakh crore would rseult in the largest eviction the State has witnessed. Though it has been claimed that the project cuts across just 20 m of land in width, nearly 100 to 120 metres has been surveyed at many places raising suspicion.The march on June 22 will start from the stadium corner. It will be attended by people’s representatives and leaders of various organisations, they said.Dharmadam panchayat president Prabhakaran, Edakkad Premarajan, chairman, action committee, and P.B.M. Farmees, Convener, were present.

The much-awaited railway section linking Kashmir valley with rest of the country will be launched on June 26 when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will jointly flag off the first train.

The 18-km-long section between Banihal in Jammu and Qazigund in Kashmir will provide an all-weather surface link to the Valley which often gets cut off from the rest of the country due to snowfall during winters.

Northern Railway is coordinating with the Jammu and Kashmir government to arrange bus service from Uddhampur to Banihal for passengers to avail train service for the Valley.

"The bus service will be available from Udhampur to facilitate passengers availing train from Banihal next month," a senior Northern Railway official said.

The Banihal-Qazigund section, which includes an 11-km-long tunnel, will reduce the distance from 35 km (by road) to 18 km. It has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1,691 crore.

"It was a challenging task. Besides the difficult terrain, land was acquired for the Kashmir rail link project in adverse law and order situation in the state," the official said.

Train service is already operational within Kashmir valley in the 118-km-long route between Qazigund and Baramulla in north Kashmir.

"The mandatory inspection of the track by Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) is being done and the clearance is awaited. The line is expected to open on June 26," the official said.

Trial run on this section was successfully done on December 28 last year and since then trains carrying stones are running on regular basis.

Work on this section was executed by IRCON, a PSU under railways. It will have two main railway stations - Banihal in Jammu division and Qazigund in Kashmir division.

In addition to these stations, a halt station is also being provided at Hillar village in Anantnag district for the convenience of local public.

IRCON Director (Works) Hitesh Khanna said commissioning of this section would help realise the dream of connecting Jammu region with Kashmir valley. He said it was Maharaja Pratap Singh who first explored the possibility of connecting Jammu to Kashmir Valley with a railway line way back in 1898.
