NAGPUR: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC) city development officer and executive engineer, Rahul Warke will have to reimburse Rs 3,581 he sanctioned for the advertisement in the controversial proposal to name the railway station after Mohammed Hazrat Tajuddin Baba. Municipal commissioner Shyam Wardhane directed that the expenses be recovered from Warke.Additional municipal commissioner Hemant Kumar Pawar issued the order on Saturday. Warke's service book will also have a mention of the misdeed.Corporators from Congress (2), NCP and Muslim League (1 each) submitted applications to table a proposal in the NMC's general body for passing a resolution to name the railway station after Tajuddin Baba and submit it to the Railways. Warke failed to gauge the seriousness of the proposal and went ahead to invite suggestions and objections even though he had no powers to do so. |

The 18-km-long section between Banihal in Jammu and Qazigund in Kashmir, which will provide an all-weather surface link to the valley, will have only two stations during its 18 km journey.In addition to these stations, a halt station is also being provided at Hillar village in Anantnag district for the convenience of local public."It was a challenging task. Besides the difficult terrain, land was acquired for the Kashmir rail link project in adverse law and order situation in the state," GM said.The much-awaited railway section will be launched on June 25 when Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi jointly flag off the first train.The section, which includes an 11-km-long tunnel, will reduce the distance from 35 km to 18 kms. It has been constructed at a cost of Rs.1,691 crore.Train service is already operational within Kashmir valley between Qazigund and Baramulla in north Kashmir."The mandatory inspection of the track by Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) is slated on June 18 and after that the line is expected to open on June 25," Northern Railway General Manager V K Gupta said.Trial run on this section was successfully done on December 28 last year and since then trains carrying stones are running on regular basis. |

Rail traffic along Tirupur-Erode sector was disrupted for almost two hours on Saturday evening after the engine of Thiruvananthapuram-Hyderabad express broke down near Vijayamangalam.Sources said that the engine broke down after a peacock hit the pantograph on the top of the electric engine. The train resumed its journey after another engine was brought from Erode, sources added. |

Three minor girls of Vijayawada who were on their way to Kerala in Chennai – Mangalore Express to work in a home were rescued by Childline at Salem Railway Junction here on Thursday night.Childline received information that the three girls were being taken to Kerala by a woman in the train. After an inquiry, they were produced before the Child Welfare Committee and taken to a child home.However, the woman who accompanied them was left off after inquiry. |

PATNA: With railways unable to cope with the increasing demand for confirmed tickets in any class for New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Secunderabad and Kolkata, 'Tatkal' scheme has come handy to the passengers under the Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR).According to Danapur DRM L M Jha, Tatkal tickets are being issued from 41 locations under Danapur division between 10am and 12pm every day. However, Patna Junction, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Danapur, Ara and Buxar continue to be major locations for issuing Tatkal tickets, he said. The DRM said railways is maintaining complete transparency in allotment of berths under Tatkal scheme. About 3,000 confirmed berths are being booked under Tatkal scheme every day under the division. Tatkal tickets are being issued to passengers under the strict surveillance of RPF to check malpractices, he said, adding two touts were arrested at Rajendra Nagar Terminal on June 11. According to sources, the weekly Patna-Vasco de Gama Express, which is running with full occupancy rate, is in more demand among Patnaites in summer. For such people, there is hardly any confirmed berths available in this train. Under the new Tatkal scheme, railways has earmarked about 30% berths in any superfast train. About 89 berths in AC2 and 143 in AC3 class in Patna-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12309) have been allotted under 'Tatkal' scheme to cater to the needs of passengers, sources said. |
