The Southern Railway has revised the timings of train number 17316 Velankanni – Vasco da Gama (weekly) Express with immediate effect.As per the revised timings, the train will depart from Velankanni at 11.45 p.m. on Tuesdays, instead of the present 2.25 p.m.The train will reach Tiruchi at 3.15 a.m. on Wednesday and will depart at 3.25 a.m.It will reach Vasco da Gama at 6 a.m. on Thursdays instead of the present 7.40 p.m. on Wednesdays, said an official press release.

मध्य रेल्वेच्या नवीन वेळापत्रकात गाड्यांच्या वेळात बदल करण्यात आला आहे . यातील काही गाड्या या नेहमीच्या वेळेत धावणार आहेत तर काही गाड्या ५ ते १० मिनिटाच्या उशीराने धावणार आहे . या बदलाबरोबरच दोन नवीन गाड्यांचा समावेश आहे . या नव्या वेळापत्रकाची अंमलबजावणी सोमवारपासून सुरू झाली आहे .
रेल्वे मंत्रालयाने ३० जूनला नवीन वेळापत्रक जाहीर केले . पुणे - भुसावळ गाडीच्या वेळेत १५ मिनिटांचा बदल केल्याने गोदावरी एक्स्प्रेसपूर्वी पुणे गाडी येईल ; मात्र पंचवटीच्या वेळेत कुठलाही बदल झालेला नाही .

मुसळधार पावसाने रोखला मुंबई-गोवा हायवे रत्नागिरी, सिंधुदुर्ग पट्ट्यात वाहनांच्या रांगा

कोकणात रत्नागिरी, सिंधुदुर्ग, संगमेश्वर आदी ठिकाणी होत असलेल्या मुसळधार पावसाने मुंबई-गोवा हायवेची वाट रोखली असून हायवेवर मंगळवारी रात्री उशिरापर्यंत शेकडो लोक अडकून पडले होते.

सिंधुदुर्गमध्ये कुडाळजवळ पीठढवळ नदीला आलेल्या पुरामुळे मुंबई-गोवा हायवेवरील वाहतूक बंद झाली. तर, रत्नागिरी जिल्ह्यात सकाळपासून होत असलेल्या पावसामुळे हायवेवरील सावर्डे ते संगमेश्वर प​रिसरातील सखल भागात पूरस्थिती निर्माण झाली होती. शास्त्री नदीचेही पाणी हायवेवर आल्याने खेरशेत-आरवली दरम्यान वाहतूक खोळंबली होती. त्यामुळे चिपळूण, संगमेश्वर परिसरात रात्री उशिरापर्यंत वाहनांच्या रांगा लागल्या होत्या.

रत्नागिरी जिल्ह्यात सकाळपासून मुसळधार पाऊस पडत असून राजापूरच्या शहरी भागात जाणाऱ्या रस्त्यावर दुपारी साडेतीनच्या सुमारास दरड कोसळल्याने शहरांतर्गत वाहतुकीलाही फटका बसला होता. माखजन भाग पूर्णतः पाण्याखाली गेल्याने संगमेश्वरचा संपर्क तुटला आहे.

कोकण रेल्वेलाही फटका कोकण रेल्वेच्या आरवली-संगमेश्वरदरम्यान रुळांवर माती आल्याने नेत्रावती एक्स्प्रेस सावर्ड्याजवळ थांबवण्यात आली होती. माती काढण्याचे काम तातडीने हाती घेण्यात आले. रात्री उशिरापर्यंत वाहतूक पूर्ववत करण्याचे कोकण रेल्वे प्रशासनाचे प्रयत्न सुरू होते.

Balasore, July 2:Science enthusiasts got a scope to satiate their inquisitiveness about the world around them as they boarded the Science Express, an innovative exhibition train, which chugged here today.
The special train with 16 air-conditioned coaches will be stationed in Balasore for three days and visitors will have a chance to explore the country’s bio-diversity between 9am and 5pm.
The state’s science and technology department and the Union ministry of environment and forests have taken up the initiative of this mobile exhibition.
“This is the second edition of the Science Express. While the previous one had spread the word about pure sciences, molecular biology, microbiology and nano technology, this one is carrying information on the diversity across bio-geographical zones of India,” said a volunteer.
The exhibition targets a wide range of audience, including students, teachers and parents. One will get to understand issues related to climate change, energy conservation and wildlife.
A “kid zone” is the biggest draw, providing children a scope to make their own models in science, mathematics and environment.
“The wildlife display was interesting. Apart from the visuals, sound effects made the experience even better,” said Annapurna Panda, a Class IX student.
“This is a great opportunity to know about scientific notions and concepts. The train carries information for all age groups,” said district collector Ranjit Mohanty, who inaugurated the exhibition.
Additional director of the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur Binay Das said: “Science has reached the common man through this train. Here, one can learn about many things.”
The special locomotive — an Indo-German joint venture — began its journey on April 9 after being flagged off from Safdarjung station in New Delhi to raise awareness among youths and rekindle interest in science.
The train arrived here from Kharagpur today.
From here it travels to Cuttack where the exhibition will be open to visitors from July 5 to 8.
It will also make pit stops in Balangir (July 9 to 11) and Rayagada (July 12 to 14) before leaving for Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Overall, the train will tour 62 places across the country and end its journey on October 28 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

नगरसोल ते करंजगावदरम्यान रेल्वे रूळ बदलण्याचे काम सध्या सुरू आहे . यामुळे धर्माबाद - मनमाड - धर्माबाद एक्स्प्रेसला दोन तास थांबविण्यात येत होते . त्यामुळे धर्माबाद - मनमाड रेल्वे दोन जुलैपासून धर्माबाद ते औरंगाबाद अशी धावणार आहे ; शिवाय शटल रेल्वेही रविवारी बंद ठेवण्याचा निर्णय घेण्यात आला आहे .

नगरसोल ते करंजगाव स्टेशनमध्ये रेल्वे रूळ बदल्याचे काम सुरू करण्यात आले आहे . त्यामुळे येत्या दोन महिन्यांसाठी काही रेल्वेंना थांबवून पाठविण्यात येत होते . सध्या या भागात पीक्यूआरएस मशिनीद्वारे काम सुरू आहे . हे काम करत असताना , धर्माबाद ते मनमाड अशा चालणाऱ्या रेल्वेला मनमाड ते औरंगाबाद मार्गात दोन तास थांबविण्यात येत होते ; मात्र दोन जुलैपासून धर्माबाद ते मनमाड ही रेल्वे औरंगाबाद रेल्वे स्थानकावर थांबविली जाईल . ही रेल्वे पुढील दोन महिने धर्माबाद ते औरंगाबादपर्यंतच चालणार आहे .

याशिवाय जालना नगरसोल शटल रेल्वे ही दर शनिवारी बंद असते , मात्र आगामी दोन महिन्यांसाठी आठवड्याच्या रविवारीही शटल सेवा बंद राहणार आहे . आठवड्यातील पाच दिवस ही सेवा सुरू राहील ; मात्र रविवार आणि शनिवार दोन महिन्यांसाठी सेवा बंद राहणार असल्याची माहिती रेल्वे विभागाच्या सूत्रांनी दिली .

नाशिकरोड रेल्वे स्थानकाच्या बाहेरील रस्त्यावर मोठे खड्डे पडले असून अनेक दिवसांपासून या खड्डयांमुळे अपघात होत आहेत . याकडे महापालिकेने दुर्लक्ष केल्याने प्रवाशांचे हाल होत आहेत . हा खड्डा तातडीने बुजविण्याची मागणी नागरिकांनी केली आहे .

नाशिकरोड रेल्वे स्थानकाच्या बाहेर अनेक दिवसांपासून मोठे खड्डे पडले असून या खड्डयांमुळे अनेकवेळा अपघात घडले आहेत . नाशिकरोड रेल्वे स्थानकात नेहमीच विविध भागातून पर्यटक येत असतात त्यांना रेल्वे स्थानकाच्या बाहेर पडताच या खड्डयातून प्रवास करावा लागत आहे . रेल्वेस्थानकाच्या बाजुला बसस्थानक असल्याने हा भाग वर्दळीचा आहे या स्थानकातून नाशिक , नाशिकरोड भागातील विविध ठिकाणी नागरिक प्रवास करीत असतात या स्थानकातूनच एसटीची प्रवाशी वाहतुक होत असते तेव्हा या खड्डयांचा त्रास बस प्रवाशांनाही करावा लागतो . या खड्डयांमुळे गाड्यांचे पार्ट निकामी झाल्याने अनेकवेळा वाहनांची दुरुस्ती करावी लागत असल्याचे टॅक्सीचालकांचे म्हणणे आहे . या खड्डयांमध्ये अनेक वेळा रिक्षा पडल्या आहेत . यामुळे याकडे लक्ष देण्याची मागणी नागरिकांनी केली आहे .

MUMBAI: Thanks to the trend of offices relocating from south Mumbai to its northern parts, Mumbaikars' local train commute has shrunk considerably over the past three years.

A study of suburban card ticket sales on both Western Railway (WR) and Central Railway (WR) between 2010 and 2012 reveals that 44% or almost half the suburban commuters travel less than 20km a day — a distance equivalent to the Churchgate-Vile Parle stretch on WR. Another 35% limit their journey under 40km or, say, CST to Mumbra on the CR. Just a fraction or 12% of the commuters travel 41km to 60km a day—the distance between Churchgate and Virar on WR, or CST and Ambernath on CR.

These startling figures, collated by the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), have been aired publicly now, but the railways had already begun introducing more short-distance shuttle services. In 2012, 55 suburban shuttle services were launched.

It is the decentralization of business hubs to Parel, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Andheri, Malad, Ghatkopar and parts of Navi Mumbai which has seen commuters limit their daily travel, said experts. Where locals go: Data spur rlys to hammer out city-specific plans

Experts say decentralization of business districts has helped train commuters cut down on their travel. As P C Sehgal, former managing director of MRVC, said, "The growth centres have shifted and there is a consequent change in Mumbaikars' travel pattern. Railway authorities need to run more 15-car services between Andheri and Borivli, which, according to me, is the busiest stretch on WR. Likewise, more people now alight at Ghatkopar, Thane, Kurla, Parel and Currey Road. More services should run between Dadar and Kalyan or Thane to take care of the additional load."

CR, for one, has realized that fewer commuters travel up to CST today. It has, therefore, planned a Parel terminus for shuttle services up to Kalyan and beyond, to avoid loading the already saturated Dadar Terminus.

Shailesh Goyal, former member, National Rail Users' Consultative Committee, said, "The extended suburbs have also witnessed a phenomenal growth in residential projects. The new townships have also led to a boom in the services sector."

Currently, the distance of 22km —CST to Vikhroli or Churchgate to Andheri—takes around 40 minutes by a slow local and 30 minutes by a fast; a local runs at an average speed of 40km per hour.

A journey of 34km, which is equivalent to the distance of CSTThane or Churchgate-Borivli, takes almost one hour in a slow train. A fast train covers this stretch on the CR in less than 40 minutes. A trip on a CST-Borivli fast local will be around 55 minutes.

Rail Yatri Sangh's Subhash Gupta said, "Apart from train travel, a person has to take road transport from the station to his residence or office. This takes another 15 to 20 minutes. It is but natural that a person would like to keep his travel short to spend more time with family." An MRVC official added, "The travel pattern shows that the majority of commuters prefer their location of residence or their workplace within the 20km range."

The preference for short-distance travel is higher on CR than on WR. Nearly 29% of CR commuters prefer to travel a distance of 0-10km compared to 9% on WR.
