Three unidentified youngsters were found lying in an unconscious state today in the morning. They were said to have been looted by a gang of robbers who offered them eatables laced with intoxicants and then took away their belongings and money.Volunteers of the NGO Sahara Jan Sewa shifted the three victims to the Civil Hospital after someone informed them that the youths were lying unconscious.President of Sahara Jan Sewa Vijay Goyal said a phone call was received at around 7 am and volunteers Sandeep, Anil, Vicky, Om Parkash and other workers picked up the passengers who were lying on a platform of the railway station. The unconscious persons were rushed to the Civil Hospital in an ambulance of the NGO where they are being treated.Sahara volunteers said the matter has been brought to the notice of the Government Railway Police (GRP).

Goyal said that earlier too, similar incidents have been reported at the railway station which underlines the need for security at the railway station.

He said that a bag containing edibles and tickets of a train was found lying beside these youths whose condition is said to be critical.

The amount of money or details of belongings taken away by the looters will be ascertained only when the youths regain consciousness, the volunteers of the Sahara Jan Sewa said, and added that the unconscious youths may take 48 hours to recover in view of their medical condition.

Chennai: Twenty express trains and two new air-conditioned express trains besides four passenger trains would be introduced shortly.Three new MEMUs and extension of five express trains have also been proposed in the Southern Railway zone Time Table-July 2013 released here recently. The new MEMU service would include daily Chennai-Tirupati connectivity. Train no: 66011 will leave Central at 9.30am and reach Tirupati at 1.10pm. Train no: 66012 will leave Tirupati at 9.10 pm and reach Central at 5.20pm.Also, Chennai Egmore- Madurai portion of Train No.16127/16128 (Chennai Egmore - Guruvayur Daily Express) would be extended to Tuticorin as Train No.16129/16130. Cops’ presence of mind helps Passenger get back her gold bag

Salem: Showing great presence of mind, the Erode Railway police sprang into action and recovered a bag containing gold jewellery worth lakhs from a moving train on Tuesday after a woman passenger complained she had left it behind while alighting.

The woman, Easwari from Thirumangalam in Madurai district had boarded the Thoothukudi- Madurai Express on a one-way ticket to Erode and was  travelling in the unreserved general compartment with gold jewels weighing 10.5 sovereigns in a bag, besides her other luggage.

When the train reached Erode junction at 12.30 am, the woman, who was still sleepy,  left the bag containing the jewellery behind while alighting and before she could realise what she had done, the train left. Easwari then immediately filed a complaint with the Erode Railway police, who in turn alerted the police at the Salem Railway junction , the train’s next destination.

“As soon as we got the message, we knew that the bag would be stolen if the train stopped at the next station and so got ready to get it back before  passengers got off  at Salem. We realised that if we missed that opportunity, it would be extremely difficult to recover the gold,” said a railway police official.

A well instructed head constable, R. Sivasakthivelan of the Salem Railway police, who was assigned the task of recovering the bag, waited for the train at the platform where it was expected to arrive and jumped into its unreserved compartment before it could come to a halt.

He quickly located the bag containing  the valuables and it was later handed over to Easwari at the Erode Railway junction. The greatly relieved woman was grateful to the constable and his team who received more than one pat on their backs for their prompt action. 

Customs officer among 10 held for gambling on train

Chennai: Ten gamblers were arrested Tuesday between Beach and Tambaram for gambling aboard trains.

Interestingly, the background of gamblers amazed even RPF personnel involved in the crackdown. It was not just casual labourers and ordinary office goers, but also a customs officer was involved in the group of gambling passengers who travel between Beach and far off Kan­ch­ee­puram, Tirumalpur and Chengalpet for work daily.

The gamblers, who travel between Beach and far off stations regularly, occupy the footboard and play cards. They hide the cards every time the train reaches a station. Though senior divisional safety commissioner received complaints of on board gambling.

A special team was formed to follow the gamblers. Late Monday, two plain clothed RPF personnel boarded a Beach-Tirumalpur EMU at 8.25 pm at Beach station and travelled till Guindy, taken videos of the gamblers on their mobile phones.

An RPF team led by Mambalam sub inspector Maharajan boarded the train at Guindy station and arrested the 10 gamblers who were let out on bail. The gamblers were slapped a fine of Rs 600 each. They also arrested a dozen beggars causing nuisance to travellers at the station.

Sirsa:
Member of Parliament from Sirsa Ashok Tanwar has said that the special passenger train (04741-04742) which runs between Sirsa and Ludhiana will be made a regular train as earlier this train was run for only two months from April 30 to June 30.Tanwar was redressing grievances of people at Sirsa today.He said this special train was started between Sirsa and Hisar. It was a long-standing demand of the residents of Sirsa.Tanwar said that during his meeting with Railway Minister Mallikarjun Khadge in Delhi, he had demanded that this train should be run regularly and the minister had accepted his demand.He said the train would halt on both ways at Jakhod Kheda, Mandi Adampur, Bhathu, Ding, Suchan Kotli and Bajekan stations. The special train would have seven compartments, including six of general category and one of the guard.Various social, religious and political organisations of Sirsa have expressed their gratitude for running this regular train.

Tanwar said he had also demanded from the Railway Minister that an additional air-conditioned coach, one women's coach and two general coaches should be added to the Kissan Express running between Bathinda and Delhi.

The other demands included expansion of Gorakhdham Express from Hisar to Sirsa, halt of Kissan Express at Ding Station, running of Intercity Express approved from Firozepur to Delhi in this budget via Bathinda-Sirsa-Hisar-Bhiwani and Rohtak.

He said soon he along with the Divisional Railway Manager of Bikaner Division would visit Dabwali-Sirsa-Ding-Bhatu railway stations and inspect the facilities being given to the passengers there.

The Centre’s ambitious plan to run high-speed bullet trains on dedicated tracks connecting Delhi with its adjoining satellite towns of Meerut, Panipat and Alwar in less than half the time that it takes now, seems to be slowly inching towards reality.  The Union Cabinet on Wednesday is likely to approve the setting up of a company —National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) — to execute the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) with an initial fund of R100 crore. Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan  which are part of the NCR,  will contribute 50% of the R100 crore.As of now, three corridors of the RRTS have been finalised. These include Delhi-Meerut, Delhi-Panipat and Delhi-Alwar. The project will cost R75,000 crore. As part of this, new broad gauge tracks would be laid in Delhi and its three neighbouring states on which the high-speed air -conditioned trains would run. It would cover a distance of 90 km between Delhi and Meerut in 63 minutes, Delhi and Alwar (188 km) in 117 minutes and Delhi and Panipat (109 km) in 61 minutes.

This will be the first phase of the RRTS and is expected to become operational by 2015. In the second phase five other corridors would be connected.   

While a majority of the track in Delhi would be underground, in the other states it would be a mix of elevated, on ground and underground tracks.Initially, each of the trains will have six coaches which will later be upgraded to nine coaches. The project will be funded jointly by the Centre and respective state governments. 

In Delhi, multi-modal stations will be provided which will integrate the RRTS with Delhi Metro and DTC for faster dispersal of passengers. Feeder services will be provided at the respective stations to facilitate passengers.

All-party members hold meet on the burning issue

The steering committee of all-party, which met here on Tuesday, decided to mount pressure on Lok Sabha member Vundavalli Arun Kumar and MLA Rowthu Suryaprakasha Rao to take up the Havelock bridge issue with the Railway Board in the wake of South Central Railway General Manager D.P. Pandey’s statement that the Railways is ready to dispose of the bridge for Rs. 67 crore.The meeting, chaired by convener Ganni Krishna of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), asked the MP and the MLA to make a statement about the latest developments to allay the apprehensions and doubts in the minds of the people.All the steering committee members, including Meesala Satyanaryana (CPI), Arun (CPI-M), Nalla Ramarao (AICTU), V.V. Ramarao (Lok Satta), M. Jayaprakash (BJP), Nandepu Srinivas (president, Chamber of Commerce) and Ashok Jain (merchants association) expressed their opinion on the latest developments after they met the MP four days ago.CPI district secretary Meesala Satyanarayana said that it was better to meet the MP and ask him to take a delegation to the Railway General Manager and set a deadline on the issue.Mr. Arun said that any thing should be constructive and the public representatives be involved in taking further steps.Mr. Ashok Jain said that nothing would be finalised before 2014 elections and it was the duty of all-party members to keep the tempo of the agitation till that time.

Stating that media was supporting the agitation, AP Unuion of Working Jjournalists State council member M. Srirammurthy said that the all-party committee should take appropriate steps and steer the agitation in right direction.

The Bharat Scouts and Guides (BS&G) of South Western Railway (SWR) has started collecting flood relief materials from the railway staff in Hubli, Bangalore and Mysore, to help the people stranded in Uttarakhand.

A press release from the SWR said the flood relief materials include rice, atta, dhal, sugar, tea powder, biscuits, toothpastes, soaps, utensils, blankets and towels.

The flood relief material will be sent by a parcel van that will be attached to train No. 06948 Hubli-Miraj Link Express, that is scheduled to leave Hubli at 5 pm on July 4

This van will go up to Madgoan, from where it will be attached to train No.12287 Kochuveli-Dehradun Express and will be handed over to the district magistrate and the person in charge of flood materials at Dehradun by the rovers team.

Special trains
The South Eastern Railway has decided to continue running an express special train between  Hatia-Yesvantpur-Hatia (train Nos. 08635/08636). The train will be run from Hatia end on July 4 and from Yesvantpur end on July 6 ( one special only in each direction), to clear the extra rush.

Train No. 08635 will depart from the Hatia station at 9.40 am on Thursday and arrive at Yesvantpur at 10 pm the next day.

Railway: New timetable comes into force

Thiruvananthapuram: New railway time schedule came into force in the Thiruvananthapuram railway division from Monday onwards. There are changes in the train timings of Chennai Superfast, Gorakhpur express, Indore Ahalyanagari exp, Intercity, Nagercoil passenger. Railway authorities said that the complete list would be published within two days. The Kochuveli-Nagercoil passenger will leave to Nagercoil from TVM at 12 noon. The new time of Chennai superfast is 5.20 pm instead of 5.10. TVM -Guruvayur will leave at 5.30 pm.

Gorakhpur, Indore Ahalyanagairi express will start journey at 6.15 am. The trains will leave after the Janashathabdi express via Alappuzha at 6 am. They used to depart at 5.30 am. These trains used to halt in Alappuzha to give way to janshathabdi and it created protests. In this railway rescheduled the timings. Gorakhpur express has services on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday. Indore Ahalyanagari runs only on Saturdays.

गेले काही दिवस फक्त हजेरी लावणाऱ्या पावसाने कोकणात मंगळवारी मात्र थैमान घातले. दिवसभर पडणाऱ्या मुसळधार पावसाने मुंबईहून कोकणात जाण्याचे दोन मार्ग बंद पाडले. कोकण रेल्वेवर आरवली व संगमेश्वर या दोन स्थानकांदरम्यान रुळांवर माती आल्याने कोकण रेल्वेची वाहतूक काही काळ बंद ठेवण्यात आली होती. रात्री उशिरापर्यंत या परिस्थितीत बदल झाला नव्हता. दुसऱ्या बाजुला मुंबई-गोवा महामार्गावर चिपळूणच्या हद्दीत वरसगावजवळ पिट ढवळी नदीला आलेल्या पुराने वाहतूक बंद पडली. मंगळवारच्या पावसाने कोकण तसेच तळकोकण या भागाला झोडपून काढले. परिणामी कोकणात संगमेश्वरजवळील शास्त्री नदी, चिपळूणजवळील पिट ढवळी नदी यांना पूर आल्याने काही पूल पाण्याखाली गेले व वाहतूक बंद पडली. यामुळे गोव्याकडे जाणारी वाहतूक बहादूर शेख नाका येथून कुंभार्ले घाटातून कोल्हापूरमार्गे गोव्याकडे वळवण्यात आली. तर मुंबईला येणारी वाहने याच मार्गाने गोव्याच्या दिशेने येतील. कोकण रेल्वेला गेल्या दोन वर्षांमध्ये अनेकदा दरड कोसळण्याचा सामना करावा लागला होता. यंदा मात्र तशी वेळ अद्याप आलेली नाही. पण मंगळवारच्या पावसाने संगमेश्वर व आरवली या दोन स्थानकांदरम्यान माती कोसळल्याने वाहतूक ठप्प झाली. मंगळवारी रात्री उशिरापर्यंत ही माती बाजूला करण्याचे काम चालू होते. मात्र तंत्रज्ञांकडून 'ट्रॅक क्लिअरन्स' प्रमाणपत्र मिळेपर्यंत या मार्गावरील वाहतूक पूर्ववत होणार नाही, असे कोकण रेल्वेच्या वैशाली पतंगे यांनी सांगितले.
