Mangalore, Jul 6: As a responsible corporate citizen, Corporation Bank, a premier Public Sector Bank, continues to be in the forefront in reaching out to the society with commitment and dedication to the welfare of the society.  The Bank, headquartered at Mangalore, has sponsored a new Prepaid Autorickshaw Kiosk at Mangalore Central Railway Station. After a long gap, the prepaid autorickshaw service at the railway station has resumed, with the installation of the new kiosk. The kiosk is constructed on a large area with necessary facilities and better infrastructure, including a shed for the convenience of the commuters as well as the staff.  The kiosk has come as a boon for thousands of commuters at the Mangalore Central Railway Station, wherein a large number of trains including long distance ones pass through. The new prepaid autorickshaw kiosk at Mangalore Central Railway Station that commenced  functioning for the last three months, was formally inaugurated on July 2 by J R Lobo, MLA, Mangalore (South) in the presence of H S Prakash, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mangalore district; Dr Kurian P Abraham, Deputy General Manager, Corporation Bank, Head Office, Mangalore; Shri S M Mujumdar, assistant general manager, Corporation Bank, Head Office, Mangalore; Shri Dharmaiah, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mangalore; Shri C Mallikurjana, Regional Transport Officer, Mangalore; Ganapati Bhat, Asst. Commissioner – Labour; Shri Harish Kotian, President, Taluk Panchayat; Shri Jayaprakash Shetty Vamanjoor, former Dist. President of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike; other officials from the Bank, representatives of autorickshaw drivers’ unions and invitees.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the kiosk,  J R Lobo, MLA, Mangalore (South) appreciated the initiative taken in constructing the new kiosk and resuming the services of the prepaid autorickshaw for the benefit of commuters.  He highlighted the importance and role of prepaid autorickshaw system in instilling confidence among the commuters. 

H S Prakash, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mangalore addressed the gathering on the occasion and advised the autorickshaw drivers to extend good service to commuters through the prepaid facility.  He also requested the drivers to take care of the commuters, keeping in view their responsibilities towards the society.

South Eastern Railway, during the first quarter of the current financial year, 2013-14 has made a spectacular jump in freight loading.During the first quarter i.e. from April to June of the current financial year (2013-14), South Eastern Railway has loaded 32.88 million tonnes of freight as against 30.33 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year, thus, registering a growth of 2.55 million tonnes i.e. 8.41%.Transportation of major commodities viz. Iron Ore, other raw materials to steel plants, Coal, Pig Iron & Finished steel, Cement, Food grains, Fertilizers, POL etc. is the main factor for this substantial improvement in freight loading during the 1st quarter.

Earnings from Freight Traffic
Consequent upon this remarkable performance in freight loading during 1st quarter of current financial year 2013-14, S.E.Railway has been able to generate earnings of Rs. 2402.63 crores as against Rs. 2337.21 crores earned during corresponding period of last financial year 2012-13, registering a growth of 2.8%.

The Railway Administration is going to start four special trains between Bhopal and Hoshangabad railway stations on July 8 for devotees to have holy dip in Narmada River on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya.Bhopal Railway Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rajeev Chowdhury has issued orders for preparations and arrangements of facilities and security on the Bhopal and Hoshangabad railway stations.Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SDCM) Brijendra Kumar said that first special train on July 8 will depart from Bhopal railway station at 3:50 am and will reach Hoshangabad at 5:30 am. The second train with train number 01633 will start from Hoshangabad station at 6:30 am and will reach Bhopal at 9 am.Kumar further said that the third fair special train with number 01632 will start from Bhopal at 6:25 pm and will reach Hoshangabad at 9 pm. The last special train with number 01631 will depart from Hoshangabad railway station at 10 pm and will reach Bhopal at 11:55 pm.Kumar said that all the special trains between Bhopal and Hoshangabad will halt at Habibganj, Misrod, Mandideep, Obadullahganj, Barkheda and Budni railway stations. Total 8 coaches will be present in the special trains including six general coaches and two SLR.

He said that on the occasion additional booking counters will be opened at Hoshangabad railway station, drinking water facility, and special announcement of the trains plying between Bhopal and Hoshangabad and additional security arrangements will be made.

Kumar further said that arrangements are being made to ensure that passengers and devotees do not face any trouble during the fair on Somvati Amavasya.

जौनपुर-औड़िहार के रेलवे लाइन के कदहरा गांव के पास एक मालगाड़ी से उसकी गार्ड बोगी अलग हो गई। ट्रेन चार किमी आगे निकल गई। एक घंटे बाद बोगी को जोड़ने के बाद मालगाड़ी रवाना हुई।
शुक्रवार को रात करीब आठ बजे जौनपुर से औड़िहार की ओर जा रही मालगाड़ी कदहरा गांव के पास गार्डबोगी (ब्रेक ट्रेन पार्टी) से अलग हो गई। मालगाड़ी दनदनाती चार किमी आगे निकल गई। तब गार्ड ने बोगी अलग होने की जानकारी चालक को दी। जानकारी होने के बाद पचवर के पास ट्रेन रोकी। विभागीय पदाधिकारियों को बोगी अलग हो जाने की जानकारी देने के बाद ट्रेन को ट्रैक पर चार किमी तक पीछे लाकर बोगी को जोड़ा। तब जाकर घंटे भर बाद मालगाड़ी रवाना हुई। इस दौरान कई ट्रेनें विलंब से गुजरी।

The robbers were identified as Gurbhej Singh of Sultanwind, Ravinder Kumar of Ludhiana, Jaswinder Singh of Kapurthala and Raju of Rohtak (Haryana). They were arrested from beneath a foot bridge that connects the GT Road with the Goal Bagh area following a tip-off, revealed Dharminder Kalyan, SHO, GRP police station.While detailing he said the robbers confessed to have committed four such lootings. The robbers used to target migrants coming from Uttar Pradesh or Bihar. The police recovered two sharp-edged weapons, besides a toy pistol from their possession.About their modus oprendi, he said, the robbers used to catch train from Beas or Manawala railway station and identifying the target, who were alone. As soon as the victim reached near a secluded place they used to waylay him and snatch whatever he had.He said a case under Section 401 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against them. They were remanded in a three-day police custody, he said.Meanwhile, the Majitha Road police claimed to have arrested three thieves and recovered four gold bangles, two gold chains, two lockets, a mobile phone and a debit card from their possession.The thieves have been identified as Rupinderjit Singh, Bikramjit Singh and Satinder Singh, all residents of Kale village in the Chheharta area. The police said the thieves had stolen the recovered material from a residence located in Nirankari Colony on June 25.

The schedule on display at railway station is in the process of being upgraded, creating inconvenience for travellers

Bathinda:
The passengers catching trains from the Bathinda junction are facing a peculiar problem these days. While some passengers have missed their trains in the past few days, others have been reaching the station much before the scheduled time of the train.The confusion among the passengers can be attributed to the time-table of the trains on display at the railway station. The schedule of a couple of trains has been changed since the routes of some of the trains passing through the junction have been extended.Nor have the trains started running on the extended routes neither have the revised timings been displayed at the station for the convenience of the passengers.The trains the route of which have been extended are the Shri Ganganagar-Haridwar, Rishikesh, Dilli-Bathinda, Shri Ganganagar-Bathinda, Chhindwara-Bathinda and the Dhuri-Bathinda trains.“We are yet to get the nod from the higher authorities regarding the extention of routes of these trains. In all probability, the trains will start travelling on their extended routes by the mid of this month,” said the station superintendent, Pradeep Sharma.He added that since the junction authorities had not got the permission for running the trains on the extended routes, the revised time-tables had not been displayed.“Changes in the timings of other trains will be revised soon on the display board. The painters are at work regarding the same. However, the revised time-table of the trains the routes of which have been extended will be display only once the trains start running on their designated routes,” he added.When asked about the confusion the changed schedule was causing to the passengers, he assured that it would last only for a few more days. “We are aiming to revise the time-table display in a day or two. The confusion is unavoidable. We are in the process of changing all the boards which display the train timings at the junction,” he said.Till then, the passengers will have to face the problem with advance information for the ernquiry office being the only way out.

AMRITSAR: India’s Customs Department seized 10 kilograms of heroin from a Pakistan cargo train at the Attari Railway station. The drugs were concealed in a sealed cargo department amidst cement bags.It appears that this particular train has transported heroin in a similar fashion prior to this week’s bust. Recently 105 kilograms and later seven kilograms were seized. Cargo trains are a major channel for drug smugglers to transport heroin from Pakistan to India.Customs had nearly cleared the train for off-loading when during the search a mysterious bag found near the cement bags raised suspicion amongst officials. Upon further examination the narcotics were discovered.Officials will now investigate the origins and ownership of the cargo consignment.

Chandigarh:
Decks have been cleared for two major infrastructure projects in the Hisar area. Union Railways Minister Mallikarjun Kharge, Union Minister for Transport, Roads and Highways Oscar Fernandes and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will lay the foundation stones of the four-six laning project of National Highway No 10 from Hisar to Rohtak and the rail-link project from Hansi to Rohtak via Meham in Hisar on July 21. Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda said Hisar would develop as a new industrial corridor of Rohtak and Delhi with these two big projects.Hooda said over Rs 400 crore would be spent on the construction of 69-km rail link from Hansi to Rohtak via Meham whereas about Rs 1,000 crore would be spent on four-laning of National Highway No.10 between Hisar and Rohtak. With this direct rail network, western Haryana, including Hisar, Sirsa and Fatehabad districts, would be directly connected with the national capital Delhi, leading to greater prosperity of the area. The MP said these projects, which had been pending since long, had been approved by the Central Government after strenuous efforts by the Chief Minister. —TNS
