A day after a judge questioned the clean chit given to former Railway Minister in connection with the railway bribery scandal, Pawan Kumar Bansal said that he had no financial links with his nephew Vijay Singla.“I had no linkages, and I still don’t have any financial linkages with my nephew,” Bansal told CNN-IBN in an exclusive interview.“All that I can say is I’m not associated with this matter and I had no knowledge of it. Relation is there, you can’t deny that,” he said.Bansal has been under a cloud after the arrest of his nephew in connection with offering a Railway Board member a plum posting in return for cash. After resigning from his ministerial post, he was questioned by the CBI but was let off and made a prosecution witness.However, conversations recorded by the CBI of the various persons involved in the scandal had raised questions over whether Bansal was aware of his nephew’s actions. |

Lucknow, July 20 (IANS) Several passengers on board the Delhi-bound GT Express were robbed Saturday when armed robbers stormed into the train near Agra, police said here. The incident took place between Agra and Mathura on the Grand Trunk (GT) Express coming from Chennai. The robbers entered a three-tier air conditioned bogie and robbed the passengers on gun point. They also beat up passengers when some of them tried to resist them. They later decamped with the loot before the train halted at the Mathura railway station, a police officer said. Passengers lodged a first information report (FIR) with the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Mathura and also created a ruckus at the station. A police officer told IANS that eye witnesses put the number of dacoits at seven. A total of 13 passengers lodged FIRs of being robbed. |

Kangra: The Ministry for Railways has granted permission to the state government to construct overbridge on the Pathankot-Jogindernagar narrow gauge line. The project of Rs 1.68 crore, connecting Bodarballa village with Sakot and Bhatti villages, will prove a boon for residents of five villages.Pawan Kajal, local MLA of the Congress, said this while addressing a press conference here today. He said he had taken up the issue in the state assembly and later on approached former Railway Minister Pawan Bansal in Delhi in this connection and now the permission to construct this bridge over the railway line was granted.He said a number of families from these villages had already migrated to other places for want of road connectivity and hoped that they would return to their ancestral places after the bridge would be built.He said this bridge would be constructed at Rs1.68 crore on Banner Khad and work on this project would start soon. He said the PWD would complete this bridge by the end of the current financial year. |

Locals here demanded extension of Bhubaneswar-Palasa passenger train up to Parlakhemundi. “Although we have demanded several times for a separate train service from Parlakhemundi and Gunupur line to Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam, but neither the State Government nor the Centre is paying any heed. It is also creating problem for the tribals and poor people in their communication,” said a few locals. |
