MUMBAI: The new State Urban Development Department UdaySamant, today, visited the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and an overview of the projects implemented by the Authority.The all-project presentation was made to the State Minister by the Metropolitan Commissioner, UPS Madan. The presentation included on-going projects such as Metro Rail, Mono Rail, Sahar Elevated Road, Amar Mahal Junction flyover, Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, Rental Housing, Extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project, Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project, Surya Bulk Water Supply Project, Multi-Modal Corridor among others."The recently opened Eastern Freeway has been serving the Mumbaikars a great extent", said Samant. "The Authority has been implementing big-ticket projects which include resettlement and rehabilitation of the families affected by them. One will have to appreciate the work done by the Authority since it also included rehabilitation of religious structures which normally is a very sensitive issue", concluded the State UDD Minister.The State Minister was also briefed on the new projects such as BKC-EEH connector which will connect BKC and Chunabhatti area near Eastern Express Highway and Kherwadi Junction flyover which is expected to complete by 2014. Very soon MMRDA is planning to initiate third metro rail project between COlaba and Seepz in Andheri which will be a 33 km route. Similarly it is likely to take Nhava-Sewri sea link, a 22 km bridge connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai towards Panvel. |

A ticket checking drive conducted by Vijayawada Division of Railway Assistant Commercial Manager Ch. Lakshminarasimham at Kovvur Railway Station on Friday on all trains resulted in booking of 162 cases of passengers travelling without tickets and carrying unbooked luggage. The Railways realised Rs. 59,625. Twenty passengers, who failed to pay the dues, were prosecuted. The RPF and GRP personnel were also part of the drive. These checks along with sanitation drives will continue on station premises, the release said. |

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh chaired a meeting on the progress of infrastructure development in the north-eastern region.Among those present at the meeting were finance minister, civil aviation minister, railway minister, minister for road transport and highways, telecom minister, minister for power, minister for DONER and the deputy chairman of the planning commission.Railway, road, airport, power and telecom projects in the region were reviewed in the meeting. The focus was to speed up implementation of ongoing projects and also to ensure electronic connectivity. The deputy chairman of the planning commission reported that eight states of the region grew at 9.95 percent during the XI plan period, well above the national average of 8 percent. The finance ministry would give an additional ₹400 crore for the completion of the three critical railway projects in the north-east by March 2014.The three projects are the Harmati-Naharlagun project to provide the first rail connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh, the Dudhnoi-Mendipathar project to connect Meghalaya, and the Rangapara-North Lakhimpur project. |
