सततच्या पावसामुळे विदर्भातील चंद्रपूर , गडचिरोली , वर्धा व नागपूर जिल्ह्यात पूरसदृष्य परिस्थिती निर्माण झाली होती . सिंदी रेल्वे येथील जवळपास ३०० मीटर रेल्वे लाइन वाहून गेल्याने नागपूर - मुंबई वाहतूक ठप्प पडली होती . मात्र ही वाहतूक रविवारी रात्रीपासून सुरू होण्याचा विश्वास रेल्वे प्रशासनाने व्यक्त केला आहे . चंद्रपुरात इरई आणि झरपट नदीचे पाणी शिरल्याने शहर जलमय झाले होते . रविवारी पावसाने विश्रांती घेतली . अनेक ठिकाणी पूर ओसरल्याने जनजीवन पूर्वपदावर आले आहे . मात्र पावसामुळे अनेक घरे जमीनदोस्त झाल्याने संसार उघड्यावर आले आहेत . धरणांमधील जलसाठा वाढल्याने अमरावती जिल्ह्याच्या मोर्शी तालुक्यातील अप्पर वर्धा धरणाचे नऊ दरवाजे उघडण्यात आले आहेत . त्यामुळे ३२ गावांना सतर्कतेचा इशारा देण्यात आला आहे . अकोला जिल्ह्यातील काटेपूर्णा धरणाचे दहापैकी दोन दरवाजे उघडण्यात आले आहेत . भंडारा जिल्ह्यातील गोसेखुर्दचे २३ दरवाजे एक मीटरने उघडण्यात आले आहेत . यवतमाळ जिल्ह्यात पावसाने विश्रांती घेतल्याने जनजीवन पूर्वपदावर आले आहे . वाशीम , बुलडाणा जिल्ह्यात रिमझीम पाऊस सुरू आहे .

वर्धा जिल्ह्यातील सिंदी परिसरात शुक्रवारी झालेल्या दमदार पावसामुळे सिंदी ते तुळजापूर यादरम्यानची ३०० मीटर रेल्वे लाइन वाहून गेली . त्यामुळे नागपूर - मुंबई , नागपूरकडून दक्षिणेकडे जाणारी रेल्वे वाहतूक विस्कळीत झाली होती . रेल्वे प्रशासनाकडून सुरू असलेल्या युद्धपातळीवरील प्रयत्नांमुळे या मार्गावरील डाऊन लाइन रविवारी रात्रीपासून सुरू होईल , असा विश्वास रेल्वे सूत्रांनी व्यक्त केला आहे .

शनिवारी पहाटेपासून १० टोळ्यांमधील १५० अभियंत्यांच्या मदतीने सुमारे १ हजार रेल्वे मजुरांनी युद्धपातळीवरून कामाला सुरुवात केली . रेल्वे रुळाखाली जवळपास सात मीटर खोल मोठा खड्डा पडला . ते बु ‌ जविण्यासाठी जवळपास १४ पोकलॅन मशीनचा वापर केला जात आहे . दुरुस्तीचे काम अव्याहत सुरू असल्याने लवकरच काम पूर्ण होईल , असे डी . एम . मनीष शर्मा यांनी सांगितले . वाहतूक सुरू व्हावी यासाठी सुरुवातीला डाऊन लाइन रविवारी रात्री सुरू केली जाईल . नंतर हळूहळू वाहतूक सुरळीत करण्यात येईल . नागपूर विभागाचे डीआरएम ब्रिजेश विनय दीक्षित यांनी गेल्या २४ तासात आपल्या निरीक्षणात या कामाला अंतिम रुप दिल्याचेही त्यांनी सांगितले .

Mumbai: A passenger train derailed here on late Sunday, disrupting the rail traffic, according to news reports.As per initial reports, 20 passengers were reportedly hurt when five coaches of the Gondia-Chandra Fort train went off the tracks near Wadsa Railway Station.According to railway sources, Police and railway officials have rushed to the site and have begun investigations into the mishap.

Unless large-scale private investments are not encouraged through the private sector under the PPP mode into the railway sector, the long waiting lists of passengers would not disappear. Funds from non-traditional financing mechanisms are required for new rail lines, world-class railway stations, dedicated freight corridors and high speed rail lines , said Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy.Participating in a workshop organised by the Union Finance Ministry in Railway Bhawan, New Delhi, on “Financing of PPP Projects” on Saturday, Mr. Reddy explained that the country is losing about Rs.6 crore due to high logistics costs in India.Citing the successful experience of telecom, airways, ports, national highways, etc., where long waiting lists for goods and services were eliminated by opening up these sectors for private sector investments, Mr. Reddy affirmed that it was imperative to bridge the widening demand-supply gap in train services.

Sharing his experience in shaping the Hyderabad Metro Rail project , he said that projects of this kind need a dedicated and highly motivated team of officers in government.

Bold decisions, developing innovative mechanisms and devising strategies to overcome the innumerable procedural hurdles and booby traps laid by vested interests are necessary. Besides, the government head of a PPP project would have to be a good communicator and a marketing strategist to successfully market the project, he added.

The MD said that the HMR project was once given up by many as a “jinxed project”. But it was successfully turned around through sheer perseverance, patience, dedicated efforts, socially useful activities and a communication strategy.

MUMBAI: Security checks being carried out at stations to prevent terror attacks resulted in the recovery of diamonds worth Rs 20 lakh, unaccounted cash of Rs 4 lakh and 44 cartons of gutkha worth Rs 20 lakh on Saturday night. The seizures were made by the government railway police (GRP) during three separate checks at Dadar and CST. "We were checking passengers' bags and frisking suspicious-looking persons when we spotted a nervous-looking man carrying a bag on his shoulder in Dadar," said senior inspector (GRP) Rajendra Trivedi."We found 25 packets of diamonds, worth Rs 20 lakh, and Rs 4 lakh in his bag," said Trivedi. "He told us that his name was Asif Memon (24). He claimed that he was taking the diamonds to Surat and was to board Gujarat Mail. But he kept changing his versions and gave us evasive replies. We took him into custody and will hand him over to the income tax department for further investigation."Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and recovered 44 cartons of gutkha ar CST. "Earlier, consignments would arrive at Mumbai Central station by long-distance trains. But after we arrested a few persons, the consignments stopped arriving at Mumbai Central. Our informer had told us that the gutkha consignment would arrive by Punjab Mail," said Trivedi. "The gutkha was sent from Delhi. We are trying to ascertain the source of the consignment and

have alerted the police in Delhi."

"At several stations like Kalyan and Dadar, we have installed baggage scanners, door frame metal detectors and deployed extra police personnel to check for explosives or unclaimed bags. Dog squad has also been pressed into service," Central Railway spokesperson A K Singh said.

A senior railway protection force official said security has been tightened at all the stations and on suburban and long-distance trains. "We are patrolling round-the-clock patrol and our men are keeping a vigil on CCTVs for any suspicious objects or persons. The checks will continue in the city this week," he said.

Singh said the motormen have also been provided with security as there have been incidents of attacks.

"We have kept all our staff on alert and regular announcements are being made, warning people from touching unclaimed bags and alert either the GRP or the RPF," he said.

Hyderabad: Indian Railways on Saturday, showcased rare photographs from its archives at the Railway Photographic Exhibition inaugurated at the Salar Jung Museum.    The photo exhibition on 160 years of Indian Railways showcases facets of railway infrastructure and operations.    Among the exhibits were older photographs of the Ranchi Railway Station, random photographs of the different sorts of steam engines and trains, locomotives, baggage carriages, railway architecture, bridges and tunnels.   Also rare photographs capturing the legendary Bhagat Singh at the Lahore Railway station, personalities like Jawaharlal Nehru, Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shashtri at railway stations are exhibited.   A photo of the Nizam of Hyderabad at the erstwhile Hyderabad Deccan Station is also on display.    “The growth of Railways shows the growth of nation. This exhibition will be interesting to the viewers as it enables them to have a vivid glimpse of how the railways evolved during the past 100 years,” said GM of SCR D.P. Pande.

Alappuzha: Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, K.C.Venugopal said that all rail level crossings passing through the Alappuzha Parliamentary constituency would be manned soon.Talking to reporters here on Saturday, after chairing a meeting of railway authorities, Venugopal said that 101level crossings out of a total of 103 in the constituency had already been manned.“There are only two left and that too will be manned shortly. Underpasses will be constructed at ten level crossings. When that happens this will turn into a constituency with fully manned rail level crossings,” he said.Venugopal said that steps for acquiring the land for the rail wagon factory promised in the 2011 Union Railway budget would begin soon. The Railway authorities would hand over the letter related to land acquisition on Monday. “Land acquisition will begin urgently,” he said.

The Minister said that the State PWD officials told the meeting that the approach road to Alappuzha railway station at a cost of Rs 23 lakh and the one to Ambalappuzha railway station at a cost of Rs 13 lakh had been completed.The works of approach roads at a cost of Rs 18 lakh for Kayamkulam, Rs 25 lakh for Thuravoor and Rs 19 lakh for Karunagappally had started. The VIP lounge works at Alappuzha station had been completed, he added.

Of the works for the doubling of the railway line from Harippad to Ambalappuzha, and the modernisation of the Ambalappuzha railway station would be taken up initially. The Railway authorities in the State had sought more funds for platform extension in Ambalappuzha railway station.

The Minister said that the Railways had come up with the drawings of the Rail Over Bridge (ROB) in Ezhuppunna and similar works for the ROB at Krishnapuram would begin soon. The tender processes had been completed for the works of setting up escalators at Alappuzha Railway Station. “The works will start in two weeks,” he said.

The Minister instructed officials to look into providing a roof for the platforms at Kayamkulam railway station and the difficulties that passengers undergo because of only one platform at Ambalappuzha.

Railway Thiruvananthapuram Division Railway Manager, Rajesh Agrawal, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Denni Thomas, District collector, N.Padmakumar and Additional Divisional Magistrate (ADM), K.P. Thampy were also present at the meeting.
