The ‘rail roko’ call given by the integrationists to bring pressure on the UPA Government hit the passenger turnout at the railway stations on Sunday. However, no major incidents were reported in view of the agitation.Police made elaborate security arrangements in and around the railway stations to avoid any inconvenience to the passengers.Heavy police forces were positioned at all the entry points to prevent the agitators from entering railway stations.Many passengers cancelled journey, and the platforms wore a desert look. There was no passenger rush in the trains and the South Central Railway provided escort with two parties for all the running trains. Police parties were attached to all the Station Masters. In Guntur, the protestors raised slogans in front of Simhadri Express, while the agitators entered Tenali station and shouted slogans in front of Janmabhoomi Express. The protestors criticised the Congress party for bifurcating the State. Police thwarted the efforts of the agitators to enter the railway stations in Anakapalle, Narsaraopet and Visakhapatnam, said Superintendent of Railway Police Ch. Syam Prasad Rao.“Train services were not affected in Guntur and Tenali stations as some protestors raised slogans in front of the halted trains.There were no reports of arson and the police have not registered any cases in Vijayawada division”, said Mr. Syam Prasad.The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police and the central forces would continue in the stations as a precautionary measure, said the police.

NEW DELHI, AUG 12:   The All India Railwaymen Federation, Indian Railways’ largest employee union, has called for a protest rally across the country, on the day after Government introduces the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill.

It has urged its over 10 lakh members to go to the Prime Minister's Office website and lodge their protest.

On September 13, the union will also take a call on whether it will go on an indefinite strike on the issue.

The Railway Union has called for scrapping of the new pension scheme (NPS) for long.

“..NPS has taken away the rights of Central and State Government employees to have pension and family pension. AIRF is determined to scrap the new pension scheme and compel the Government to cover all Central and State Government employees under pension and family pension scheme,” AIRF has stated.

The Standing Committee meeting of AIRF calls upon all Central and State Government employees in general and Railwaymen in particular to register strong protest against the evil design of Government to introduce PFRDA Bill on the floor of Parliament,” AIRF has stated.

ecurity has been stepped up at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and on the Delhi Metro in view of possible threats in the run-up to Independence Day later this week.The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), along with Delhi Police and other central security forces and agencies, have tightened their vigil for these two public facilities with additional manpower having been put on duty."There is no specific alert, but the security agencies have stepped up the vigil keeping in mind the Independence Day celebrations and other events in the national capital. There is no need for panic," a senior security official said.CISF has also begun extensive passenger and vehicular checks at the domestic and international terminals at IGIA.Both the air-side and city-side deployment of the force has been beefed up at IGIA.Surprise security checks and profiling of passengers and commuters have also been intensified to check for possible trouble-makers, the official said.The agencies have also deployed additional teams in civil clothes which will monitor the crowds by mingling with them, they said.

भारतीय रेल को एक अप्रैल से 31 जुलाई 2013 के दौरान 44260.16 करोड़ रुपये की आय हुई, जबकि पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि के दौरान 39969.24 करोड़ रुपये की आय हुई थी । इस प्रकार पिछले वर्ष की तुलना में 10.74 प्रतिशत की बढ़ोतरी हुई । 01 अप्रैल-31 जुलाई, 2013 के दौरान माल भाड़े से 27924.26 करोड़ रुपये की आमदनी हुई, जो 01 अप्रैल-31 जुलाई, 2013 के दौरान बढ़कर 30492.06 करोड़ रूपए हो गई। इस प्रकार पिछले वर्ष की तुलना में आय में 9.20 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि हुई। एक अप्रैल से 31 जुलाई 2013 के दौरान अर्जित कुल यात्री राजस्‍व 11631.28 करोड़ रूपए रहा जबकि पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि के दौरान यह 10320.40 करोड़ रुपये था। इसमें 12.70 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि दर्ज की गई। अप्रैल से जुलाई 2013 के दौरान अन्‍य कोचों से अर्जित राशि 1307.87 करोड़ रूपए रही, जो पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि के दौरान 1017.27 करोड़ रुपये थी। इसमें 28.56 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि दर्ज हुई । एक अप्रैल से 31 जुलाई 2013 के दौरान कुल यात्रियों की संख्या 2810.33 मिलियन रही, जबकि पिछले साल की इसी अवधि में यह 2843.39 मिलियन थी। इसमें 1.16 प्रतिशत की गिरावट दर्ज की गई। उपनगरीय और गैर-उपनगरीय क्षेत्रों में अप्रैल-जुलाई 2013 के बीच बुकिंग कराने वाले कुल यात्रियों की संख्‍या 1495.84 मिलियन और 1314.49 मिलियन थी, जो पिछले वर्ष की इसी अवधि में क्रमश: 1459.48 मिलियन और 1383.91 मिलियन थी । इसमें क्रमश: 2.49 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि और 5.02 प्रतिशत की गिरावट देखी गई।

Total earnings of Indian Railways increased 10.74% during April-July 2013 to Rs 442.60 billion compared to Rs 399.69 billion during the same period last year.Total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 279.24 billion during April-July 2012 to Rs 304.92 billion during April-July 2013, registering an increase of 9.20%.Total passenger revenue earnings during April-July 2013 were Rs 116.31% compared to Rs 103.20 billion during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.70%.Revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 13.07 billion during April - July 2013 compared to Rs 10.17 billion during the same period last year, an increase of 28.56%.Total approximate numbers of passengers booked during April-July 2013 to 2,810.33 million compared to 2,843.39 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 1.16%.In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April-July 2013 were 1,495.84 million and 1,314.49 million compared to 1459.48 million and 1383.91 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 2.49% and a decrease of 5.02% respectively.

सोरों (कासगंज): यह घटना किसी किताबी कहानी की याद दिलाती है। रेलवे ट्रैक की फिश प्लेट निकल गई थी और पटरी कटी हुई थी। कासगंज से सोरों की ओर कासगंज-बरेली पैसेंजर धड़धड़ाती चली आ रही थी। वहां से गुजर रहे एक किसान की नजर कटी पटरी पर पड़ी तो तुरंत ही हादसे के खतरे को भांप गया। संयोग से वह लाल शर्ट पहने था। शर्ट हाथ में पकड़ कर लहराते हुए इस 'फरिश्ते' ने रेलवे ट्रैक पर दौड़ लगाई और कुछ दूरी पर ही ट्रेन को रुकवा कर बड़ा ट्रेन हादसा टाल दिया।
रविवार सुबह 6.25 बजे का वक्त था। कासगंज सिटी और गंगागढ़ के बीच रेलवे ट्रैक के पास से प्रहलादपुर का किसान सुनील कुमार पुत्र रामप्रकाश अपने खेत पर जा रहा था। तभी उसकी नजर रेल की पटरियों पर पड़ी। उसने देखा कि पटरी की फिश प्लेट निकली हुई थी और पटरी कटी हुई थी। उसी वक्त कासगंज की ओर से पैसेंजर ट्रेन सोरों की ओर चली आ रही थी। यह देख किसान हक्काबक्का रह गया। इत्तेफाक था कि वह लाल रंग की शर्ट पहने हुए था। उसने आननफानन अपनी शर्ट उतारी और कासगंज सिटी स्टेशन की ओर दौड़ पड़ा। कुछ ही दूरी पर किसान ने ट्रेन के ड्राइवर को लाल रंग की शर्ट दिखाते हुए खतरे का संकेत दिया। ड्राइवर ने रेलगाड़ी को रोक लिया। सुनील कुमार ने ट्रेन के ड्राइवर व गार्ड को पटरी टूटे होने की सूचना दी। चालक व गार्ड ने मौके पर जाकर देखा तो फिश प्लेटें निकली हुई थीं। सूचना रेलवे कंट्रोल रूम को दी गई।
थोड़ी ही देर बाद रेलवे के इंजीनियर और रेलवे सुरक्षा बल बदायूं के पुलिस कर्मी मौके पर पहुंच गए। इंजीनियरों ने काफी मशक्कत के बाद रेलवे ट्रैक को दुरुस्त किया। इस बीच कासगंज-बरेली पैसेंजर ट्रेन संख्या 52201 लगभग एक घंटे तक रेलवे ट्रैक पर खड़ी रही। इस तरह किसान की सूझबूझ से ट्रेन में सवार हजारों यात्रियों की जान बच गई। यदि पांच मिनट और वहां से किसान नहीं गुजरता और उसकी नजर रेलवे ट्रेक पर नहीं पड़ती तो शायद बड़ा हादसा हो जाता।
बदायूं आरपीएफ के उपनिरीक्षक उदयराज का कहना था कि फिश प्लेट निकालने और पटरी काटने जैसा कृत्य अराजक तत्वों का ही है। मामले की जांच कर ऐसे अराजक तत्वों को चिन्हित किया जा रहा है। जल्द ही उनके विरुद्ध एफआइआर कराई जाएगी।

If the Western Railway (WR) has its way, you will have to buy a card ticket before each journey on the much awaited air-conditioned (AC) suburban local train, slated to begin next year.

The rail authorities are against the idea of subsidised season tickets, the most preferred method of daily commute on the western line, as they say that it would not be economical for the railways.

“If a season pass is introduced for the AC local, the train would be as packed as the first class compartments of suburban locals,” said a senior railway official.

The railway authorities are confident that even without the availability of season passes, enough commuters would be willing to travel on the upcoming train as heavy traffic and overcrowding make travelling by road and local trains an inconvenient option.

WR authorities have prepared a proposal detailing the proposed fare structure for the AC local and sent it to the Railway Board, the apex body of the Indian Railways which will take the final decision on it.

While the senior official refused to disclose the proposed fare structure, he suggested that fares would be at par with those for AC buses and AC chair cars of the railways.

Chennai-based Integra Coach Factory has been tasked with manufacturing the first AC local.

While the train was scheduled to arrive in the city last April, it has been delayed till next year over some technological challenges.

“It is expected to take at least five more months,” said another senior official of WR.

As this is the first AC train of its type, delays are unavoidable, the official said.
