GUWAHATI: With the central government inviting Assam groups demanding separate states for talks in New Delhi from Sep 2, several non-Bodo and non-tribal organizations have threatened to launch a mass movement.These bodies on Sunday took part in a mass conclave in Guwahati and decided to oppose the statehood demand.These have also decided to pressurize the state and the central governments against further division in the name of caste and communities.Another non-Bodo organization, the Asomiya Oikya Mancha, has called for 300 hours of bandh of all government offices besides rail and road blockades in Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD) starting Sep 2.While the Koch Rajbongshi organizations wanting Kamatapur state have been invited Sep 2, a delegation of the Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State demanding state status for Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts has been asked to reach the next day.

On Sep 4, the central government has invited delegations of Bodo organizations demanding a Bodoland state.

"The central government has taken a hasty decision on Telangana while targeting the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. However, the decision has fuelled statehood demands in Assam. The non-Bodos living in Assam's BTAD areas have been suffering a lot. Creation of a separate state will further aggravate the situation and we are not going to accept this," said Brajen Mahanta, chief convener of the Sanmilita Janagosthiya Sangram Samiti.

"Today we have decided to oppose any further bifurcation of the state in the name of cast and community and we also appeal to the government of India to settle the grievances of the communities through other means, which is acceptable to all living in the state since ages," he said.

Railways will run special trains between Chennai Central and Mangalore Junction from September 14 to clear the rush of passengers during Onam.A press release issued by Palakkad Railway Division said reservation for these trains started on Sunday.Train No.06003 Chennai Central – Mangalore Junction Special will leave Chennai at 9 p.m. on September 14 and September 21 and arrive at Mangalore at 12.45 p.m. the following day.Train No.06004 Mangalore Junction – Chennai Central will leave Mangalore at 2.45 p.m. on September 15 and 22 and reach Chennai at 7.45 a.m.

देश के व्यस्त रेलवे स्टेशनों में शामिल जम्मू रेलवे स्टेशन पर लोगों को सुविधाएं उपलब्ध करवाने के लिए बैठक का आयोजन किया गया। बैठक में फिरोजपुर डिवीजन के सीनियर डिवीजनल कॉमर्शियल मैनेजर उपजीत सिंह के अलावा डिवीजनल ट्रैफिक मैनेजर, स्टेशन मास्टर जम्मू रेलवे स्टेशन अश्विनी कुमार, जेआरयूसीसी के सदस्य गंभीर सिंहचाढ़क के अलावा डीआरयूसीसी के सदस्य गुरनाम सिंह मौजूद थे।
गंभीर सिंह चाढ़क व गुरनाम सिंह ने स्टेशन पर और बेहतरी लाने के लिए अपने छह सूत्रीय प्रस्ताव बैठक में मौजूद अधिकारियों के समक्ष रखे। इसमें स्टेशन की सफाई के अलावा प्लेटफार्म की संख्या बढ़ाने, नए बुकिंग काउंटर खोलने, रेलवे स्टेशन में लगे स्टालों पर रेट लिस्ट सुनिश्चित करने के सुझाव शामिल थे।
इस मौके पर अधिकारियों ने उन्हें भरोसा दिलाया कि सोमवार को चेयरमैन नॉर्दर्न रेलवे स्टेशन के साथ होने वाली बैठक में यह सुझाव उनके समक्ष रखे जाएंगे और उन पर सोमवार को फैसला लिया जाएगा।

शराब पीकर मेट्रो में हुड़दंग करने वाले मुसाफिरों के खिलाफ सीआईएसएफ ने एक बार फिर अभियान चलाने का फैसला किया है।
सीआईएसएफ ने यह फैसला नोएडा सिटी सेंटर मेट्रो स्टेशन पर शराब के नशे में धुत एक शख्स द्वारा मुसाफिरों के साथ मारपीट की घटना को देखते हुए लिया है। मेट्रो में सफर करने वाले मुसाफिरों की सुरक्षा के लिए खतरा मानते हुए सीआईएसएफ ने शराब का सेवन कर आए किसी भी शख्स को मेट्रो परिसर में दाखिल न होने देने का निर्देश जारी कर दिया है।
सीआईएसएफ के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी के अनुसार शनिवार शाम नोएडा सिटी सेंटर पर सुरक्षा जांच कर रहे सीआईएसएफ कर्मी ने शराब के नशे में धुत एक शख्स को मेट्रो स्टेशनके सिक्योरिटी होल्ड एरिया में दाखिल होने से रोक दिया। जिसके बाद वह शख्स मेट्रो स्टेशन के बाहरी परिसर में कुछ देर तक घूमता रहा। मुसाफिरों के मना करने पर वह बदसलूकी पर उतर आया। नतीजनत मामला मारपीट तक पहुंच गया।
सीआईएसएफ के जवानों किसी तरह इस शख्स को मुसाफिरों से अलग कर मेट्रो पुलिस के हवाले कर दिया। उल्लेखनीय है कि 16 दिसंबर की घटना के बाद सीआईएसएफ ने शराब पीकर आए मुसाफिरों को मेट्रो परिसर में दाखिल होने पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया था।
यातायात पुलिस के हस्तक्षेप के बाद सीआईएसएफ ने शराब का सेवन कर आए मुसाफिरों की स्थिति के अनुसार मेट्रो परिसर के भीतर जाने की इजाजत देने का फैसला किया था। नोएडा सिटी सेंटर मेट्रो स्टेशन में घटी इस घटना के बाद सीआईएसएफ ने इस अभियान को दोबारा कड़ाई से लागू करने का फैसला लिया है।

GUWAHATI  – NF Railway Sports Club continued their winning run in the GSA Super League Football Championship.In today’s match at the Nehru Stadium here, the railwaymen earned a 1-0 victory against ASEB Sports Club.After a scoreless first session, Jilendra Brahma scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute with a sharp header anticipating a floater sent by Sibra Narzary. Sibra took a flag kick and the ASEB defenders could not clear the ball properly. Finding the ball again Sibra set it for Jilendra who nodded into the back of the net.It was a mediocre encounter where very few goal bound moves were seen. ASEB squandered a scoring opportunity in the very third minute when Sagar Hang Limbu’s shot was fisted away by the Railway goalkeeper K Bijen Singh.In the 20th minute Jilendra’s shot missed the target by a whisker. Apart from these occasions, no team could cause real threat to the opponents. However, it was Jilendra who finally saw the day through for the Railway team. It was Railway’s fifth victory in six outings and placed on top with 16 points.

Dausa: A day after members of Meena and Gujjar youths entered into a violent confrontation during students union elections in the state, people here woke up amid fear, panic and a sense of insecurity. Meanwhile, Section 144 has been clamped in Dausa.The agitating students, who according to local people were Gujjars, had set fire to six new buses on Sunday morning including four at Bhandarez Mode and two at Sikandara. Two motorbikes were also set on fire.The youths who set fire to the vehicles in the wee hours of Sunday alleged that that the rival Meena group and their students had gone berserk on Saturday during elections. "Ladna hai to humse lado, bachchon aur mahilaon ko kyon tang kiya (If you want to fight you fight with us, why touch women and children)," said Sevaram Gujjar who was participating in agitation at Bhandarez Mode.Similarly, the agitating members of Gujjar community alleged that during the student union polls, the Meenas targeted their houses. "My whole house has turned into ashes. If such thing can happen in student union elections, I wonder what will happen in the assembly or Lok Sabha polls," said Ram Singh Gujjar, whose uncle's house was destroyed.

On the other hand, confusion prevailed especially among truck drivers and passengers travelling on Agra Road to places like Mehandipur Balaji as agitating groups of Gujjar community set fire to buses and blocked the National Highway No-11 from Bhandarez Mode and Sikandara circle. They remained stranded on the highway since morning and took a sigh of relief at 6 pm when it was cleared. Since 6 am a long queue of trucks and other vehicles was seen on National Highway 11 from Kanota near Jaipur.

Neither police nor any local villagers were there to clear the confusion and at least tell how long the situation will remain like that.

After a meeting, district collector Muktanand Agarwal and district superintendent of police, Dileep Jakhar along with tear gas vehicles and a large convoy of police vehicles rushed to Bhandarez Mode at 11 am. However, judging the situation in which at least 500 miscreants were present on the spot, they opted to stay back at the premises of Navodaya Vidyalaya, almost a km from Bhandarez Mode. "We are trying our level best to ensure that the traffic on the highway gets restored," said Agarwal. Both SP and collector through their local intelligence were trying to gather the information on the activities of the agitating groups. Suddenly, they were informed that Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla, who was going to Bassi near Jaipur, could come and talk to them. "We have spoken to him and urged him to tell his men to clear the road blockade," Agarwal added.

In the morning, violence-hit areas including Indira Colony wore an empty look except a few onlookers who came to see the houses on fire. "It is a shameful act. They misbehaved with women, looted the house and set almost everything on fire," said Girdhari Gujjar, a resident of Indira Colony. The main market of Dausa city remained closed throughout the day and a good number of policemen have cordoned the area.

Unlike Saturday, rail traffic was smooth when all the important trains passing through Dausa and Bandikui were moving as per their schedule. However, by evening the NH-11 was cleared for traffic at 7 pm. The district and police administration tugged away the buses which were ablaze.

MAPUSA: Tivim MLA and member of the konkan railway users' consultative committee (KRUCC) Kiran Kandolkar assured upgradation of the Tivim railway station with facilities like parking areas, ramps for the physically-handicapped, an over bridge across platforms etc. The MLA is nominated as a member on the KRUCC by ministry of parliamentary affairs, government of India, for a period from March 2013 to February 2015. In view of the committee's meeting at Belapur, Navi Mumbai, Kandolkar recently visited Tivim railway station along with Sirsaim sarpanch Gokuldas Kandolkar, panch members and others. Sources inform that the railway station has received complaints regarding the very narrow entrance leading to the platform that is causing hardships and inconvenience to travellers, especially women and people with disabilities. Kandolkar met with station master Gajanan Kumbhar, other officials of railway station, taxi and rickshaw operators association to discuss several relevant issues for upgradation of the station, including parking area for taxi and other vehicles, widening and repairs of approach road to station, footpaths on either side of the approach road, shaded ramp for handicapped persons and an over bridge across platforms.

"The works like parking areas and a ramp for handicapped persons, which are a necessity, will be taken up soon," Kandolkar said on inspecting the railway station.

Security at the railway station is also an important aspect, as sources inform that many anti-social elements enter Goa through Tivim railway station and are involved in crimes of robbery and chain snatching around Mapusa. Recently, three women from Kolhapur, who were on the run after stealing gold earrings from a beauty parlour in Mapusa were arrested. Kandolkar assured improved security measures at the railway station.

In a step to make travel a pleasant experience for the disabled and the elderly, lifts and an escalator will start operating at the city railway station in the first week of September.The station premises were humming with activity on Sunday with technicians fixing an escalator. Three lifts are already in place on platforms one to three. Safety trials are over and certificates have been obtained.Senior railway officials say the lifts and the escalator cost about Rs. 3.5 crore, and it is another step towards Railways’ ambition to transform the station into a world-class one.“The Kozhikode railway station falls in the A1 category as annual income from passenger footfalls is over Rs. 60 crore. As per the Railway Board guidelines, A1-category stations have to offer passenger amenities for the disabled and the elderly, such as ramps and escalators, necessarily to elevate it to a world-class station,” Mohan Menon, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, told The Hindu on Sunday.He said Railways had decided to extend such passenger amenities to A-category stations and had identified 300 such stations across the country.“We have to take into consideration an ageing population which is continuing to travel. There is a demand on Railways to make travel experience easier and comfortable,” Mr. Menon said.Railway officials said more surveillance cameras and car scanners were required to check vehicles. “This security measure will be implemented shortly,” he said.

Asked about the state of baggage scanners on the railway station premises as part of the integrated security system, Mr. Menon said though multiple entrances and exits made security checking a challenge, the scanners were used whenever there was an alert or in case of any “doubt.”

During a visit here earlier in the month, Rakesh Mishra, General Manager of Southern Railway, had promised that development works at the station would be completed soon.

Several demands have been made to improve the station infrastructure, including canopies for the platforms, footbridges connecting the platforms, a south-side entry to the station and an international shopping complex on its premises.

The important suggestions raised by the public and trader groups include improvement of the stations at West Hill, Vellayil and Kallai in the city, completion of the doubling of the Shoranur-Mangalore line, installing an automatic signalling system, electrification of the line, and reducing the running time of trains between the two stations. The demand for the Kozhikode-Mysore line has been revived.

Other suggestions were adding more compartments to trains, starting work on the coach factory in Kanjikode, new trains to Bokaro and New Delhi, via Vijayawada and Nagpur, another to Chennai, and a Jan Shatabdi Express between Kozhikode and Tiruchirapalli.
