पटना-मुगलसराय रेलखंड पर स्थित बिहार के बिहिटा स्टेशन पर मंगलवार की रात नौ बजे भागलपुर से नई दिल्ली को जाने वाली अप गरीब रथ एक्सप्रेस का इंजन अचानक फेल हो गया। अप लाइन का परिचालन सात घंटे तक बाधित रहा। इसका असर बुधवार की सुबह दिलदारनगर स्टेशन पर पड़ा।
गरीब रथ एक्सप्रेस का इंजन बिहार के बिहिटा स्टेशन पर फेल हो गया। ट्रेन अप मेन लाइन पर खड़ी हो गई। इंजन फेल होने की सूचना बिहिटा स्टेशन मास्टर ने दानापुर नियंत्रण कक्ष को दिया। नियंत्रण कक्ष के निर्देश पर पीछे स्टेशन के लूप लाइन में खड़ी मालगाड़ी के इंजन को लाकर लगभग दो घंटे बाद जोड़ा गया। इसके बाद ट्रेन को गंतव्य की ओर रवाना किया गया लेकिन वरुणा स्टेशन पर पहुंचते ही इंजन के पहिए का ब्रेक जाम हो गया और चिंगारी निकलने लगी। ट्रेन के गार्ड व चालक ने काफी मशक्कत के बाद ब्रेक बाइडिंग छुड़ाया। कुछ दूर चलने के बाद पुन: इंजन का पहिया जाम हो गया। किसी तरह चालक ने धीरे-धीरे ट्रेन को बक्सर लाकर खड़ा किया। ब्रेक जाम की जानकारी ट्रेन परीक्षक बक्सर के कर्मचारियों को दिया गया। कर्मचारियों ने ब्रेक जाम को सहीकर ट्रेन को तड़के 3.30 बजे मुगलसराय की ओर रवाना किया। इसका असर स्टेशन पर रहा। अप तूफान एक्सप्रेस 4 घंटे, पटना कुर्ला एक्सप्रेस 3 घंटे, गरीब रथ एक्सप्रेस 9 घंटे, मगध एक्सप्रेस 8 घंटे, बक्सर मुगलसराय पैसेंजर ट्रेन 2 घंटे विभूति एक्सप्रेस एक घंटे लेट रही। पूछताछ काउंटर पर यात्रियों की भीड़ लगी रही। उप स्टेशन अधीक्षक नफीस खा ने बताया कि गरीब रथ का इंजन फेल होने के कारण सात घंटे तक अप रूट का परिचालक बाधित रहा। स्टेशन पर गाड़ियों घंटो विलंब से पहुंचीं।

कासगंज के लिए एक और नयी अतिरिक्त ट्रेन मिली है। जयपुर-लखनऊ के बीच बायां कासगंज चलने वाली त्रैसाप्ताहिक ट्रेन 9 सितंबर से शुरू होगी।
इज्जतनगर मंडल के जन संपर्क अधिकारी राजेंद्र सिंह ने बताया कि 09708 लखनऊ-जयपुर त्रैसाप्ताहिक एक्सप्रेस लखनऊ जंक्शन (पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे) से जयपुर के लिए 9 सितंबर से 9 अक्टूबर (प्रत्येक बुद्धवार, शनिवार एवं सोमवार) को लखनऊ जंक्शन (पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे) से 12.25 बजे, कानपुर सेंट्रल से 13.55 बजे, कानपुर अनवरगंज से 14.07 बजे, कन्नौज से 15.34 बजे, फर्रुखाबाद से 16.35 बजे, कासगंजसे 18.20 बजे, हाथरस सिटी से 19.12 बजे, मथुरा छावनी से 20.02 बजे, मथुरा जंक्शन से 20.20 बजे प्रस्थान कर अगले दिन जयपुर 1.45 बजे पहुंचेगी।
वहीं 09707 जयपुर-लखनऊ त्रैसाप्ताहिक एक्सप्रेस जयपुर से लखनऊ जंक्शन (पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे) के लिए 8 सितम्बर से 8 अक्टूबर (प्रत्येक मंगलवार, शुक्रवार एवं रविवार) को जयपुर से 21.45 बजे प्रस्थान कर अगले दिन मथुरा जंक्शन से 2.50 बजे, मथुरा छावनी से 3.02 बजे, हाथरस सिटी से 3.41 बजे, कासगंज से 4.40 बजे, फर्रुखाबाद से 6.25 बजे, कन्नौज से 7.21 बजे, कानपुर अनवरगंज से 8.40 बजे, कानपुर सेंट्रल से 08.55 बजे चलकर लखनऊ जंक्शन (पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे) से 10.25 बजे, पहुँचेगी। श्री सिंह ने बताया कि इन गाड़ियों में एक द्वितीय वातानुकूलित, दो तृतीय वातानुकूलित, छह स्लीपर, छह सामान्य द्वितीय श्रेणी और दो एस.एल.आर. कुल 17 कोच लगाए जाएंगे।

We want authorities should take immediate steps to repair the residential quarters.”“The condition of roads is pitiable in the railway colony. These roads should be reconstructed at the earliest. The electricity wiring should be underground and all should be given permission to install air conditioners at their homes,” he added.“We are forced to drink contaminated water. The officials concerned should take steps to clean the water supply tanks, which have not been cleaned for many months. They should ensure provision of safe drinking water for the residents,” Prashar added.URMU member Ajay Sahni said, “The employees should be given new uniforms. There are no provisions of separate washrooms for female employees at carriage depots. Separate washrooms should be constructed soon. If our demands are not completed then we would be forced to resort to agitation.”

South Central Railway has increased the frequency of the train no. 12761/12762 Tirupati-Karimnagar-Tirupati weekly express to twice a week with effect from Sept. 7. Accordingly, train no. 12761 will leave here at 10.40 p.m. on Saturdays, apart from the existing service on Wednesdays. From Sept. 8, train no. 12762 will leave Tirupati at 7.15 p.m. on Sundays too. A new Bhubaneswar-Tirupati-Bhubaneswar weekly superfast express will be introduced. Train no. 16352 Nagercoil-CST Mumbai bi-weekly express will be diverted to run via Renigunta without touching Tirupati from Sept. 5.

Revenue Minister and Mysore district in charge V. Srinivas Prasad on Tuesday assured members of the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) that he would convene a meeting at the government-level to take steps for the all-round development of the city.Mr. Prasad was felicitated by the members on the occasion.“I will convince the Chief Minister in this regard,” Mr. Prasad said at an interaction meeting held to discuss beautifying Mysore, with special focus on Dasara festivities. The government had already decided to waive entry tax for 15 days on vehicles entering Mysore, from October 1 to 15, Mr. Prasad said.Earlier, the president of the MCCI, Sudhakar, S. Shetty, who read out a memorandum and handed over a copy to Mr. Prasad, said that work on converting the Mysore–Bangalore railway line to broad gauge had to be expedited to benefit commuters travelling every day. More importantly, arrangements should be made to operate flights from the Mysore airport every day. According to Mr. Shetty, water supply under the Vani Vilas Water Works was often irregular. JUSCO was not doing a proper job either. The drinking water problem should be solved, he said. He added that power shortage had hit industrial production.

The Mysore–Nanjangud road had become accident-prone resulting in casualties. It should be converted to a four-lane road, he said. At the same time, the NICE corridor, connecting Mysore–Bangalore too needed attention. The State government should consider bringing Hebbal, Metagalli and Hootagalli areas, spread over more than 8,000 acres of land, under an industrial development authority. Responding to these points, Mr. Prasad said that the issue would be discussed at the meeting on developing Mysore city.

Jammu : Three supporters of self-styled godman and rape accused Asaram were detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) after they disrupted rail traffic near Balol Nallah on Jammu-Pathankote railway route here this morning.Sources said around 100 supporters and followers of the accused, including women, had blocked the railway track at Balol Nallah in Bari Brahmana.They also raised slogans against the Congress-led UPA government for allegedly framing the accused godman Asaram under a conspiracy.The protestors carried placards and had a minor scuffle with the police when the latter tried to stop them from moving on the railway track.“They assembled near Balol Nallah at 7.45 am and had a minor scuffle with the police after they were stopped. The rail traffic remained disrupted for half-an-hour. The trains affected due to the disruption were Ahmedabad Express from Jammu and Jammu-bound Sealdah Express,” a police officer said.The official also claimed that some supporters and followers, who had boarded the Ahmedabad Express from Jammu, also joined the protestors raising anti-government slogans.After a brief disruption where two trains were delayed, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) swung into action and dispersed the protestors.Meanwhile, many Asaram's supporters continued their hunger strike at Bhagwati Nagar ashram here.They accused the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of implicating the “spiritual guru” in "false case" under a "well-planned conspiracy". They demanded the "spiritual guru" should be immediately released.Sources said that hundreds of supporters and followers of Asaram had already left for Jodhpur to hold protest against the government.

New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS) Urban Development Minister Mr.Kamal Nath Tuesday said the monorail can be a supplement for the Metro as it can be easily built and can ply in congested areas where Metro corridors cannot be constructed.

“I’m laying more emphasis on monorail, as it can be a supplement of Metro rail network. The medium cities with a population of one to four lakh will benefit with monorail, as it can provide inter-city transport service in congested localities where even buses are difficult to ply,” Kamal Nath said.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day seminar on Indo-Japan Monorail and Light Rail Transit (LRT).

The minister also said that his ministry is looking into developing monorail corridors across the country, as it suits the Indian roads. Plans are underway for developing the Monorail corridors at Agra, Indore, Bhopal, Surat, Pune, Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Warangal-Hanumakonda-Kazipet, Coimbatore, Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Guwahati, Nagpur, Patna, Vadodara, Aurangabad, Ludhiana, Ranchi, Allahabad, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Madurai, Mysore, Nanded, Cuttack etc.

“Monorail can be introduced in narrow width roads, which is very India-specific, because it uses only two beams and they can negotiate sharp curves,” the minister said.

According to the urban development ministry, monorail has a narrower pillar which measures only 1-1.2 metre in diameter while the same for a metro pillar is 1.5-1.8 metre.

The minister also informed that the Maharashtra government is already constructing two corridors of monorail in Mumbai.

As far as Delhi is concerned, an 11-km corridor has already been identified. Even Tamil Nadu and Kerala have also prepared detailed project reports for monorail.

Participating in the seminar, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit informed that the national capital will get its first monorail network by 2017.

“I hope in next two or three years or definitely by 2017 we will get the first monorail in Delhi,” Dikshit said at the inaugural session of the seminar.

“A study was conducted on the feasibility of monorail in the national capital by the Delhi Metro. We have come to a conclusion that 11 km of monorail will ply in east Delhi between Shastri Park and Trilokpuri,” she said.

“This is a beginning. We need to identify many more corridors for the monorail. We aim to adopt various pollution free modes of transport whether monorail or tram to cater to the congested areas of the city,” Dikshit said.

The first monorail corridor in Delhi will have 12 stations.

Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is chalking out an action plan to give the city an image makeover in time to welcome the Kochi Metro. The plan is to build formidable infrastructure and develop efficient transport modes in the city by the time the metro rolls out in mid 2016.KMRL decided to draw up the plan after residents’ associations, trade bodies and NGOs suggested that the city’s infrastructure be strengthened in tandem with the commissioning of Kochi Metro. Transport experts had opined that the metro would be a success only if allied modes of transport got a fillip.To give the city a spanking new look roads will be constructed, narrow junctions will be widened and water transport will be developed. The Unified Metropolitan Transportation Authority (UMTA), with KMRL’s MD Elias George at the helm, is expected to spearhead these projects, in partnership with civic agencies and government departments.Key roads that will be widened include Vyttila-Pettah Road and Thammanam-Pullepady Road. The Greater Cochin Development Authority has assured speedy commissioning of Vyttila Thykoodam-Chilavanoor-Thevara Bund Road. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will also construct a flyover and a pair of two-lane bridges at Edappally Junction.The State government has agreed to pool in funds for constructing flyovers at three other junctions on the NH 47 Bypass.The projects will be executed simultaneously with Kochi Metro works to reduce traffic bottlenecks along the 25-km-long Aluva-Pettah metro corridor.

The projects are expected to ensure seamless connectivity of the metro with road and water transport.

Mr. Elias George said other modes of transport had to be on the same track as the metro, as the metro’s ‘financial rate of return’ might be low. “Developing allied transport modes and integrating them with the metro will ensure sound ‘economic rate of return’. KMRL’s initiative is aimed at improving positive externalities, together with the metro. This is crucial for the investment for the metro to be cost-effective,” he said.

The metro is expected to usher in Transit Oriented Development (TOD) on either side of the Aluva-Pettah corridor, giving a fillip to commercial activities.

French loan

A team from AFD, a French financial agency, will visit Kochi from September 16-18. Following the visit they will decide on formally declaring the grant of a loan for the metro. The team is expected to hold talks with Minister for Transport Aryadan Mohammed, the Kochi Mayor, GCDA Chairman and MLAs from the district. As the French team is keen on UMTA developing and integrating different transport modes, a meeting would be held with the Transport Secretary and Chief Town Planner.

Sreedharan visits sites

On Tuesday, DMRC’s Principal Advisor E. Sreedharan visited the site for the metro’s coach-maintenance yard at Muttom near Aluva and the casting yard at HMT.

He also inspected the Aluva-Ernakulam South stretch, where piling, test piling and soil testing works are on. Later, he interacted with DMRC officials and took stock of the progress of works.

Delhi is likely to get it first monorail by 2017, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said on Tuesday.She said the city needs a transport system that is not only efficient and accessible, but also that will allow people to live in a healthy environment.Speaking at a meeting on the Indo-Japan Monorail and Light Rail Transport here, Ms. Dikshit said her government had identified the 11-km Shastri Park-Trilokpuri sector for the first monorail line.“We need to identify more corridors. Delhi would also like to welcome other means of transport, whether it is trams or something else, as long as they are air and noise pollution free and help the citizens to live in a healthy environment,” she said.Monorail systems that can easily navigate through congested and narrow areas and have a high-carrying capacity are being touted as a means of improving connectivity, especially in those areas where buses and the Metro cannot reach.“The Metro currently covers 192 km and carries about 22 million people everyday. The population of the city is expected to grow to 17 million by 2021 and we have to think of long-term solutions to the transport problem,” the Chief Minister said.

Ms. Dikshit said the government got a study conducted by the DMRC and the conclusion was that monorail is the answer to the problem.

Earlier, Union Minister for Urban Development Kamal Nath described the monorail as a means of supplementing the Metro in the city.

In his address, Mr. Nath said: "Monorail is not a substitute, but a supplement to the Metro service. There should be a detailed project report carried out to study how monorail can better our Metro system."

The Minister said given the advantages of monorail, several States in India have already begun working on introducing it. “Maharashtra has decided on two 20-km corridors, Delhi is actively considering an 11-km corridor, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have also shown interest.”

The monorail technology, he said, was cost effective and had many advantages like capability to be introduced in narrow roads and being able to negotiate sharp turns and steep gradients.

“It will also lessen land acquisition problems and is a quicker, easier transport system,” the Minister said.

Hoping that India can learn from Japan, where monorail has been in use for over 50 years, the Minister said this mode of transport was a viable option in small and mid-sized cities.

It is also suitable for those corridors of mega cities where the demand for a Metro is not high.

"Even the 12th Five Year Plan said there should be LRT (light rail transit) systems in million-plus cities and India has 53 of those,” Mr. Nath said.
