AGARTALA: The Lumding-Agartala Express, which reached Agartala on Monday with 345 passengers on board, was the first train to reach here in 35 days. Railway links between Badarpur and Lumding was snapped on June 25 due to landslides at as many as 100 locations in the Hill section of southern Assam. The crisis resulted in a shortage of petroleum products, essential items and food products in Manipur, Mizoram, Barak Valley and Tripura over a month.

Apart from railway workers, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) had deployed army personnel into resumption of service and rescue operation. The Tripura government sent three officials to bring back its 2,300 passengers stranded in the Hills. NFR officials said a goods train was operated on the restored tracks two days ago following which the passenger train were restored on Sunday. Over 200 people, comprising engineers and railway workers and led by senior officials of NFR's Lumding division, had been working round-the-clock to clear the debris at many places.
