The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will complete the comprehensive field survey works in the city within a three-month period as part of submitting a detailed project report of the proposed mono rail project to the government.A special office too will be opened at Chalappuram here on April 13 for speeding up the process.The DMRC team headed by E. Sreedharan, which launched the survey process in the city on Saturday, conducted site inspection in various spots already identified for constructing stopovers. Mananchira and surrounding locations were covered under the first-phase survey.The team also prepared the details of land to be acquired for the project in the coming days.K. Gopalakrishnan Superintending Engineer of the Public Works Department too would extend his help for the speedy completion of the survey process based on the already prepared sample sketch by an outside agency.

The DMRC has placed a demand before the State government to control the new construction activities on either side of the proposed project area beginning from Medical College to Meenchanda. As per the proposal, people who wanted to undertake new construction activities in areas close to the project site would be asked to get no objection certificates (NOCs) from the DMRC.

The city, which is now experiencing a rapid growth, would get a fresh lease of life with the realisation of the first phase of mono rail project from Medical College to Meenchanda resolving the traffic congestion in many busy areas. The proposal was mooted in the wake of constant demands for an improved public transport system for the developing city.

Based on the financial analysis and funding options, the total cost estimated for the project was Rs.920.93 crore. The expected cost for the completion of first phase would be around Rs.276.28 crore.

The proposed corridor, on realisation, would cover major areas of the city such as Mavoor Road, Mananchira, Palayam, and Kallai, and also give access to the Mofussil bus station and the railway station. Terminal stations too would be provided in the medical college area and Meenchanda in addition to the already decided 14 intermediate stations.

A Rail Week Award is being organized  by the Northern Railways at New Delhi Rail Headquarters in which about 16 units of five divisions including workshops will participate. Ferozepur Division is expected to bag eight special trophies, in lieu of its best performances.  This was also confirmed by DRM Ferozepur and this is the first time when so many awards will be given in Ferozepur Railway Division, for their performance in various fields.  Besides this, senior officers of RPF and Rail have also been nominated and a team of officials will visit Delhi to get these awards.

  Indian Railways News  / Automatic signalling system introduced in Kolkata Metro

Kolkata: The Kolkata Metro has introduced an automatic signalling system with an aim of increasing the frequency of metro trains. The new system will also reduce the gap between two trains from six to five minutes. According to Metro Railway source, the new signalling system was initially introduced from Kavi Subhas (New Garia) station to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) station. Later by the middle of this month it would be extended upto Dum Dum station.Last month, the Kolkata Metro had increased its services from 236 trains to 270 trains on weekdays.
