ONGC Cauvery Asset celebrated its first corporate social responsibility day in its complex in Neravy here recently.Speaking on the occasion, S.P.Prabhakumar, Executive Director, Cauvery Asset, said that the observation was in line with the PSU's corporate vision, emerging global CSR trends, and an effort to get adapted to the new CSR philosophy for inclusive growth.World over, most of the oil fields are depleting at a faster rate because of rapid exploitation due to huge energy demand. According to Mr.Kumar, while ONGC was aggressively engaged in exploring and producing oil and gas from the existing and new fields in India and abroad by acquisitions and joint ventures, the PSU was also exploring alternate sources of energy such as wind , solar, tidal, and nuclear energy.The PSU, even as it was vested with the task of meeting the energy needs of the country, is also focused on environment and ecological protection, conservation of heritage sites and monuments, ground water recharging and water management, community empowerment through access to education and healthcare, promotion of sports, support initiatives for physically and mentally challenged, self-help and livelihood generation, promotion of arts and culture, the Executive Director said.Marking its CSR day celebrations here, ONGC Cauvery Asset distributed benefits under its CSR component to beneficiaries of Karaikal, Cuddalore and Nagapattinam. The disbursements entailed Rs.3 lakh towards drinking water provisioning at the Karaikal railway station, and Rs.4 lakh towards Sapthaswaram old-age home here.According to the PSU, there were other CSR proposals under evaluation. The organisation has proposed to construct a multispecialty hospital at Karaikal through its CSR component. It has also planned to construct a multi-storeyed school building for the ONGC school here to augment its facilities , a release said. ONGC's Cauvery Asset has been engaged in the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, encompassing Karaikal, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Thanjavur and Ramnad districts. The basin covers an area of 27,850 sq. km onshore and 30,000 sq. km. offshore. |
