A 27-year-old woman delivered a baby girl at Khan Market metro station in the capital on Sunday morning. The mother and the child are fine and under observation in Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital.Juli was going to Safdarjung Hospital early morning with husband Ranjit Rai and brother-in-law for routine check-up. She was due to deliver on July 30.The trio boarded the Metro from Badarpur border after arriving by bus from Faridabad. She developed labour pain when the Metro reached Jungpura. Barely two stations later, at Khan Market station she delivered the baby girl at 7:30 am.Metro authorities got to know of the delivery. But due to lack of facilities at the station, the family with the newborn travelled to Central Secretariat station.Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said they were then taken to the nearby RML Hospital by the Metro authorities who arranged for an ambulance. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has tie-ups with ambulance services across the city as part of which they are supposed to provide ambulance to commuters in case of any emergency. He added that initially, the non-availability of a bed in nursery for the baby was a cause of concern. With intervention from Metro staff, who sought the hospital’s cooperation in admitting the baby, a bed was arranged. Two women employees of DMRC accompanied the family as there was no woman relative to take care of the mother and the child. |
