Last year government invited major food chains such as Dominos, KFC to sign up to e-catering service for railway passengers. Such services have solved the woes of improper or unhygienic food delivered by pantry car of the train on long distance trains. Umpteen number of times there were reports of cockroaches or food cooked in insanely unhygienic environment in the train’s pantry car. With signing-up of major food chains to deliver pre-ordered food through mobile app by passenger, government has solved woes of passengers as they are very happy to get rid of inedible foods. Passengers say this food is 100 times better than what they used get two years ago in compulsion. Last year the government announced a $137-billion five-year modernisation plan that includes introducing free wifi in some stations in partnership with Google. A railway official says that our next step will be setting up of “base kitchens” at all major stations to allow serve freshly cooked food to train passengers. |
