KOLKATA: Sporadic incidents of violence marked the bandh in North 24-Parganas on Thursday. Over 50 bandh supporters were arrested in the district.At least 30 passengers had a narrow escape after a government bus, in which they were travelling, was attacked and damaged by a group of bandh supporters on Jessore Road at Sishirkunja in Barasat. The SBSTC bus was on its way from Howrah to Barasat while it was attacked.At least five persons were injured after a clash broke out between CPM and Trinamool supporters at Khardah Railway station.The railway services on Sealdah-Bongaon section of eastern railway were also disrupted after bandh supporters squatted on the railway tracks at several stations including Barasat, Madhyamgram, Habra, Ashokenagar and Guma."Police pickets were posted at everywhere. Police were also patrolling at several areas and took prompt action to arrest the culprits, who tried to violate law and order. Fifty one were arrested in this connection," said Sugato Sen, SP, North-24 Pargans. |
