GUWAHATI: Two special trains, carrying panic-stricken NE students and employees residing in the southern Indian city, left Bangalore for Guwahati on Wednesday night.Sources in NF Railway said the two special trains, carrying a large number of people from NE, will arrive in Guwahati on Saturday morning."The two trains were arranged by Southern Railway after a heavy rush was witnessed in stations following threats to NE people residing in Bangalore. The recent attacks on students from northeast in Pune have added fuel to rumours in Bangalore. One train with 20 coaches and another with 18 coaches have already left Bangalore on Wednesday night," said a senior official of NF Railway.He added that about 4000 passengers from the northeast are on their way back home after rumours of possible attacks on students and employees from the northeast spread like wildfire.On the other hand, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has opened helplines for students of northeast studying in Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh in wake of threats and assault on students from the northeast, who are studying in these states.The Char Chapori Sahitya Parishad (CCSP) has also urged chief minister Tarun Gogoi to take up the matter with his counterparts with urgency. "Chief minister Tarun Gogoi must play a proactive role in apprising the chief ministers of other states to ensure safety and security of Assamese students, who are studying outside Assam," said Hafiz Ahmed, the president of CCSP. |
