Soon, in case of train delays at the CST during long-distance journeys, you won’t have to blow your top. You can cool off in an air-conditioned dormitory — for a nominal fee.“A 50-bed dormitory is being built on the terrace of the CST mainline station building and it will be air-conditioned. It will be made functional soon. We are installing AC units at present and are giving finish touches to the rest of the dormitory. The rates will be nominal, and far less than the ones charged by hotels near stations,” said a senior Central Railway (CR) official. Such facilities are already available at Kalyan and Thane stations, he added.“There are times when trains are delayed, are rescheduled or start at odd hours. The dormitory will help those commuters and they can, thus, be saved from staying in the concourse or in waiting rooms. This dormitory will have all modern facilities and commuters can freshen up while they wait to begin their journeys,” the official explained. The beds will be allotted to passengers who have either travelled or are going to travel 500km or more on a first-come-first-serve basis. Another plan in the offing is the construction of a 32-bed dormitory at the Lokmanya Tilak terminus. It is also being discussed to allow online booking of beds in the dormitory to avoid any last-minute rush. The authorities had initially planned to build a 100-bed dormitory at the CST. Fifty more beds will be added to the premises soon. “No one will offer such cheap rates at such a place. Long-distance passengers will be able to book the bed for 12 or 24 hours, depending on their requirement,” said the CR official. |
