A major train accident was averted in West Bengal when the driver of an express train stopped the engine after it got detached from the passenger bogies. The engine of the Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Shatabdi Express got detached after its coupling with a bogie broke due to loosening of joints. The incident happened near Jhougram in Burdwan district around 4 p.m. The driver immediately stooped the engine and reversed it towards the bogies. Later, the couplings were re-attached and the train resumed its journey at 4.35 p.m. "There have been no casualties and no injuries. We will find out what led to the detachment of the couplings," said Samir Goswami, chief public relations officer, Eastern Railways |
