Toy train over 3km long stretch between Aman Lodge and Matheran may run from June. After twin derailments in May 2016 of toy train services on the entire 20 kilometre route were suspended. Earlier Central Railway operated 24 services during the weekend on the 3km stretch. Initially railway is planning to resume four to six services per day. Gradually this number will be increased back to 24. Manual braking system was blamed after derailment of train. Now railway has locomotives with air brakes and an increased power capacity of 600 horse power. However speed has taken a hit by 5 kmph and will now be 10kmph maximum. The maximum speed allowed for the toy train prior to derailment was 15 kmph. | ||
