Traffic police caned the son of a magistrate and humiliated him publicly on the charge of jaywalking on the Bangalore City Railway Station premises on Monday. While the complaint against the erring cops has been filed, the jurisdictional police are passing the buck in investigating the case.

Akshay S.A.(17), studying in first semester engineering in Nelamangala and son of S. Shobha, XII Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, had come to the city for Ganesh festival. After getting down from the train at the city railway station, Akshay started walking towards the auto stand from platform No. 10. While he was about to reach the stand, two traffic cops confronted him, pulled him aside and started abusing him for jaywalking.

Akshay tried to explain that he was in a hurry, but the cops refused to listen to his pleas and started caning him. Adding to his woes, a few autorikshaw drivers joined the cops and showered blows on him. Akshay cried for help and told the cops that he is the son of a magistrate, but the police did not stop. Instead they called him names and continued to rein blows on him while passersby looked on helplessly, according to a complaint Akshay has lodged with the police.

After the attack, the bruised and battered Akshay managed to reach home at the judicial layout in Koramangala and later got admitted to hospital for treatment. Akshay filed a complaint with the city railway police station the next day.

Though a case has been registered at the city railway police station, it was transferred to the jurisdictional Upparpet police, since the incident occurred outside the railway platform, which does not come under our jurisdiction, senior railway police officials said. However, the Upparpet police denied having any knowledge about the incident. We have neither come across any such incident nor received any complaints in this regard, Upparpet Inspector told the Hindu . Finally, the case has been transferred to Cottonpet police station, where the officials are awaiting instructions from senior officials for further investigations.
