Talgo might not make its way soon into Indian railways but it has paved the way to increase speeds of Rajdhani over Delhi – Mumbai rail track. Western Railway has been asked by authorities to work on the methods so that speed of Rajdhani can be increased on the track throughout. Currently the maximum permissible limit is 130kmph which railway wants to increase upto 160kmph. This will enable Railway to cut the travel time from 16 hours to 12 hours. With the successful trial run of Talgo at 130,140 and 150kmph railway has sensed that with whatever options and infrastructure they currently have, better average speeds can be achieved. Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) is yet to give green signal regarding the same. With Delhi-Mumbai route railway also wants that the same can be done on Delhi Kolkata and Delhi – Howrah routes by hauling the track and installing better signalling system. This will help to extract the maximum potential out of the system which currently is unfit to handle such speeds throughout. |
