The preliminary survey work for a new railway line connecting Pandavapura-Nagamangala-Kunigal-Tumkur will commence shortly, said Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa at Melkote on Saturday.At present, there is a railway line between Mysore and Pandavapura. As there is no railway line between Pandavapura and Tumkur, survey work will be taken up shortly, Mr. Muniyappa said.Mysore-Tumkur rail link is a long-pending demand of the people of Mandya and surrounding regions as the district has no direct train service to Tumkur, Suresh Gowda, Nagamangala MLA, told Mr. Muniyappa.In the wake of the recent assault on a 19-year-old girl on Yeshwanthpur-Mysore Express train, the Railway Ministry is considering increasing the number of compartments for women passengers. “I have discussed the issue of providing security to women passengers on train with officials concerned,” Mr. Muniyappa said.Senior officials of the Railways are preparing a report on the Maddur incident. Once the report is submitted to the Railway Ministry, the victim will be given compensation, he said. |
