Most passengers travelling on Indian Railways Air Conditioned coaches might not be aware of refund if AC is not working. In its passenger claim refund rule book, Railway mentions that certain fare amount is refundable to passengers if AC of coach is not working. Here are the conditions for granting refund in this situation -

• If a passenger has booked an AC First Class ticket, passenger will be refunded the difference in amount of First Class fare and AC first class fare.
• In case of AC 2 tier and AC 3 tier, the difference between AC 2 tier or AC 3 tier and Sleeper Class coach will be refunded.
• Similarly for AC Chair car coaches, difference in fare of AC Chair car and Second Class fare will be refunded.
• For Executive class difference between fare of executive class and first-class fare for the concerned distance of that section will be granted.
• To claim refund, a passenger has to file TDR in case of e-ticket with in 24 hours of actual arrival of train.
• and the passenger has to send it along the original certificate (GC/EFT) issued by the ticket checking staff (TTE) at the time of journey to Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055, through post.
• Note that, railways will only refund in this case through TDR only.
