The city, which had seen an exodus of people from the northeast, will witness their return on a special train on Monday, state police chief Lalrokhuma Pachau said here on Saturday.
    “We expect at least 2,500 people from the northeast, including Assam, to come by the special train which was flagged off at 2.30 pm on Saturday. We expect their arrival on Monday morning,” said Pachau.
    Police sources said the fear in the northeast community over being attacked in the city has faded among those who left the city. There was an exodus of nearly 25,000 persons belonging to northeastern states out of Bangalore from August 15 after rumours went viral through internet, SMS and MMS threatening them to return to their states before August 20 or face dire consequences.
    The state home ministry and senior police officers convinced the Assam and other northeast state governments of full protection to all those who stay here.
