Southern Railway’s focus is now more towards comfort and quality of journey, said southern railways General Manager. Railway is gradually increasing various passenger amenities like provision of escalators, air-conditioned waiting halls, emergency medical centres at major stations etc.

However, safety is and will always remain our top priority in railway operation but besides safety we are trying to provide as many amenities to make travel by train a pleasurable experience, said GM Southern Railways.

36 stations that are religiously important will be developed with additional facilities. Also all reservation counters will be provided with POS machines for easy cashless transaction.

E-catering has begun in 176 trains and in 37 stations and despite several constraints Southern Railway was able to maintain overall punctuality of 88 per cent.
