CHENNAI: Southern Railway is planning to introduce new trains from Chennai to Karaikal and Velankanni in the next few weeks. The biweekly express trains Chennai Egmore-Velankanni Link Express will be introduced next week and Chennai Egmore-Karaikal Silambu Express will be introduced next month. The trains were being introduced as there was a huge demand for berths due to pilgrim traffic, said a railway official. A Tirunelveli-Sengottai passenger train is also being planned. Railway board has approved the trains and will issue a notification fixing schedules based on availability of rakes and slots. The services are not included in the budget but are recommended by parliamentary committee on railways. | ||
