South Western Railway triumphed over South Central Railway in the finals of the All India Railway Shuttle Badminton Championship in the Men’s Category today, ie 6thAugust 2012 at Multi-purpose Indoor Stadium, Railway Sports Complex (RSC) Grounds, Secunderabad hosted by South Central Railway Sports Association (SCRSA).With the Shuttlers of SWR, in particular Jagdish Yadav & Sanjiv coming good in the decider, SWR prevailed over the SCR Team in a see-saw battle at 16-21, 21-13 & 21-16. Earlier, SWR had won two single matches while SCR won o­ne single & o­ne double to take the battle to the deciding fifth match.Northern Railway secured the Third Place.In the Women’s Category of the Championship, Northern Railway beat Central Railway. The Third Place was bagged by Southern Railway.Shri G N Asthana, General Manager, South Central Railway was the Chief Guest at the Prize Distribution Ceremony and handed over the Trophy to the Winning Teams.

The Championship in Men’s Category saw 18 Teams vying for honours while 6 Teams took part in the Women’s Category.

The Open Championship of the Tournament which will see many National & International Players in action will be held from 7thto 9th August 2012. The Prize Money for the Open Championship will be Rs. 2 Lakhs to be distributedup to Semi-finalist as per Badminton Association of India (BAI) Rules.
