For security purposes Delhi Metro has allowed women passengers to carry knives. Apart from the knives other items that are now excluded from the restriction list is lighter and matchbox.

After Bengaluru molestation case this decision came by Delhi Metro authorities which said they are concerned about the safety of women.

This decision has drawn a mixed response with many people saying that there is no guarantee of safety of a woman despite the allowance of a potential weapon.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for the transit system's security announced its decision keeping in view women safety. They say that several such articles are recovered from women commuters on a regular basis during check in due to which thousands of such articles are piling up at depot at Shashtri Park.

On an average 100 lighters and matchboxes are seized daily. According to a report 91% pickpockets were held by woman in Delhi Metro.
