A headmaster of government middle school was arrested by railway police on charges of stealing from train passengers at Salem railway junction. C Chandran, age 40, headmaster of a school at Anthiyur was arrested following complaints from a family from Thrissur. The family complained that their handbag containing two sovereign gold jewellery went missing at Salem Railway station. Sunday night, railway police found him moving in a suspicious manner on the platform when a bag in his possession was found to have two sovereign gold jewellery. After an inquiry it was revealed that he lost money in stock market and he used to travel Salem junction on weekends to steal from passengers. He usually attempts theft when a train stops at junction. Last year December he stole a bag containing five sovereign gold. Later police recovered seven sovereign gold jewellery from his possession. |
