Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury on Sunday urged the Centre to arrange free train services for the fleeing northeast people.Terming the development unfortunate, Mr. Yechury told journalists: “Living and working in any part of the country is the constitutionally-guaranteed right of Indians. It is the duty of the Centre and State governments to protect this right.”“My party condemns the developments that had created fear psychosis among people of the northeast in Bangalore,” he said. While opposing the Centre’s ban on bulk SMSs and MMSs, the Rajya Sabha member said the source of the rumours should be traced and the guilty punished. He expressed doubts over the role of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the sangh parivar in the developments that led to the exodus from Bangalore. “The sangh parivar is getting prepared to face the next Assembly elections in Karnataka. It is out to foment trouble for communally polarising the situation and get political mileage in the polls.”Pakistan’s possible role in the developments should not be utilised as an excuse to cover up the role of internal forces, he added. The former MLA and CPI(M) State unit secretary, G.V. Sriram Reddy, and State committee members G. Narayanaswamy and Arjunan were present. |
