AURANGABAD: The Railway Police Force (RPF) on Sunday night foiled an attempt to loot Mumbai-bound Deogiri express train at Partur railway station, in Jalna district, and arrested seven members of a gang of dacoits. Two RPF jawans sustained serious injuries in the incident, while three dacoits managed to flee.

The RPF officials said that the robbery attempt took place around 10.30 pm, when the Secunderabad-Mumbai express train reached the platform of Partur railway station. The dacoits pelted stones from the other side of the train and also tried force their entry into the train. Two RPF jawans, Ramkrishna Dhangar and Prasad Kondavli, who were on duty on board, tried to prevent the dacoits from entering the train.

The dacoits pelted stones at the Jawans also. Meanwhile, the train started moving. Realising that their attempt to loot the train has been foiled by the RPF men, one of the gang members attacked Dhangar with a sharp weapon, injuring him seriously.

When the train reached Jalna, the injured jawan was rushed to a private hospital, where his condition is said to be critical.

The RPF informed the Partur police about the incident, and based on the description provided by eye-witnesses, the police rounded up one Govind Laddu Kale from his hideout. During interrogation, Kale confessed to committing the crime along with his associates and provided information about his six accomplices. They were arrested in the search operations carried out for the entire night.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Govind Laddu Kale (22), Dongrya Khobraji Kale (29), Sanjay Shivaji Chavan (20), Chandar Dadarao Pawar (23), Suresh Ramdya Chavan (21), Sunny Laddu Kale (18) and Kisan Rama Chavan (18), all residents of Pardhiwada, Sathe Nagar, Masla Road, Partur.
