Tension prevailed in Tambaram railway station on Wednesday last following a false complaint that male passengers were travelling in a compartment earmarked for women.Southern Railway sources said that they received a complaint that male passengers were travelling in ‘Ladies Only' coach of the Puducherry-Egmore Passenger on Wednesday morning. Following this, railway policemen between Villupuram and Tambaram were alerted.At Chengalpattu railway station, a police team entered the train, an eight-coach rake. The complainants – women and the suspects – male commuters were detained at Tambaram. It was established that the male passengers were travelling in general compartments and that a section of women commuters had pasted “ladies” stickers on the entry points on one of the coaches.Following this, the male commuters were let off. Women commuters too were let off with a warning, the sources added. |
