Incessant rain continued to batter several parts of the state throwing road and rail traffic out of gear. Though the repair works of submerged railway tracks are underway at a brisk pace, road connectivity to several villages in Telangana and Costal Andhra Pradesh was severely damaged.The road connectivity to more than 100 villages was cut off in Khammam and Warangal districts where overflowing streams inundated several areas bringing road transport to a stand still.Similar situation prevailed in the parts of Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts following heavy rain in upper riparian states. Low-lying areas in Adilabad, Krishna, Guntur and East Godavari districts were also inundated. The crop was damaged in thousands of acres in these districts.The officials said the level of damage can be estimated only after the water recedes. Meanwhile, a fisherman from Gummadipeta at Polaki mandal in Srikakulam district, who had gone for fishing on Monday morning in the Bay of Bengal along with four others, has died.Appaiah (50) died when the boat capsized in the sea reportedly due to heavy rains. The four other fishermen swam to the shore for their lives. |
