Heavy rain continued in parts of Sakleshpur taluk on Tuesday. Landslips in the taluk affected vehicular movement and train services. Vast tracts of farmland lie submerged causing heavy loss to farmers.Attendance in schools and colleges was poor. Many children who have to travel long distances to reach their educational institutions stayed back at home.Landslips occurred in two places near the railway track connecting Sakleshpur and Mangalore forcing authorities to cancel train services connecting Bangalore and Mangalore.Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Anup Dayanand Sadhu told The Hindu that many trains had been cancelled on Monday and Tuesday. “We will take a call on resuming train services on Wednesday only after getting reports on the situation in different parts of the district following heavy rainfall”, he said.Several houses have been damaged. Paddy fields in Heggadahalla, Valahalli, Bommanakere, Heggadde village and many neighbouring villages are submerged.According to tahsildar Chandramma, partial damage of houses was reported in Hanubalu and Hettur hoblis. A cattle shed and two houses were partially damaged in the heavy downpour.Sakleshpur taluk received 76.3 mm rainfall on Tuesday. Rainfall recorded in other taluks is as follows: Alur received 20 mm rainfall, Arkalgud received 10.4 mm, Arsikere - 0.5 mm, Belur -11.6 mm, Channarayapatna - 1.4 mm, Hassan received 2.2 mm rainfall and Holenarasipur recorded 1.3 mm rainfall on Tuesday. |
