DHANBAD: The Consumer Disputes Redress Forum of Dhanbad has asked the railways to pay Rs 6 towards the cost of mental agony to a lawyer and also pay Rs 225 as litigation cost to him. Ram Punit Chaudhury will also get the refund of the difference of fare between the sleeper class and a general class ticket. The forum chaired by Meena Kumari on Saturday delivered its judgment in a case filed by lawyer Chaudhury last year. The forum found the railways action as an unfair trade practice. Chaudhury had purchased a sleeper class ticket in an express train (No. 15028) between Samastipur and Dhanbad on February 14, 2011 for his journey scheduled next day. The ticket was on the waiting list No 53. However, when he reached the station, he found his ticket was not confirmed. He approached the commercial office at Samastipur for refund of the difference fare between general class and sleeper class, but he was denied. The lawyer travelled to Dhanbad in a general coach. On reaching Dhanbad, he approached the divisional commerecial manager and demanded the refund of differences in the fare as promised under subrule 2 of section 51 of Indian Railways Act. |
