The Railways has mooted a proposal to set up a wagon factory at Cherthala in the Public-Private Partnership mode, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said.Mr. Chandy told reporters here on Thursday that this proposal was mooted at a meeting he had with Railway officials at the behest of Union Minister of Power for State. K.C. Venugopal here on Thursday. Since the government was keen on having the project soon, the Railway officials who attended the meeting said a private partner would have to be identified for going ahead with the project immediately. This was mooted in the wake of the financial crisis grappling the Railways at present. They have also proposed a change in the site considering the fact that 100 families will have to be evicted for setting up the factory in the site identified. They were keen on having it another site in the same district which will not need an evacuation, he said.
