Rajen Gohain, Minister of State for Railways told that Indian Railways is working hard to increase average speed of passenger and freight trains. Recently in a humble suggestion Indian Railways admitted that average speeds in last decade should have gone up but the trend is vice-versa. Under “Mission Raftaar” railway wants to double the average speed of freight trains in next five years which is one of the slowest in entire world. The average speed of all passenger trains will be increased to 25kmph in next five years. Gatimaan Express running at 160kmph was one of such initiatives that took off on April 5 this year. This train clocks maximum speed of 160kmph between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Agra Cantt. The feasibility study on tracks are on and implementation of high speed trains will be on 50:50 per cent cost basis. MoU has been signed between French, Russian and China Railways. |
